  • This paper proposes an alternative method to evaluate the effect of wind power to the power system stability with small disturbance. Alternatively, available techniques for stability analysis of a power system based on deterministic methods are less accurate for high penetration of wind power. Numerical simulations of random behaviors are computationally expensive. A stochastic stability index (SSI) is proposed for the power system stability evaluation based on the theory of stochastic stability and energy function, specifically the stochastic derivative of the relative well-defined energy function and the critical energy. The SSI is implemented on the modified nine-bus system including wind turbines under different conditions. A doubly-fed induction generator (DFIG) wind turbine is characterized and modeled using measured wind data from several sites in Thailand. Each of the obtained wind power data is analyzed. The wind power effect is modeled considering the aggregated effect of wind turbines. With the proposed method, the system behavior is properly predicted and the stability is quantitatively evaluated with less computational effort compared with conventional numerical simulation methods.

  • This paper deals with the operation strategy of the Cheju AC network included MIHVDC system (Multi-Infeed HVDC system). In case that where several HVDC systems are located in the vicinity of each other, there are interactions between the different HVDC systems in such network configurations. The interactions which could be generated in multi-infeed HVDC are voltage stability, power stability and inertia stability, to analyze such systems in a systematic way to ensure that there are no risks of adverse interactions is very important. The developed method until now to analyze MIHVDC interaction is extended from MAP(Maximum Available Power) method for analyzing the power stability of the single-infeed HVDC system, this method is to solve the eigenstructure using the identified factors influencing the interactions. Finally, the algorithms which are introduced in this paper, to determine the operation strategy are applied to Cheju island network which is supplied by two HVDCs.

  • This paper introduces the concepts of UML(Unified Modeling Language) and the applying this technique for implementing voltage stability analysis program. Conventional function-oriented software development methodologies are inadequate to support further maintenance and enhancement. To overcome drawbacks of these methodologies, this paper proposes applying object-oriented technology for voltage stability evaluation software development. In this paper, a modal analysis approach, a steady-state voltage stability evaluation method, is used and UML is applied to the analysis and design for software development.

  • This paper presents a sufficient condition for robust stability of discrete-time systems with delayed nonlinear perturbations. Using state evolution method, the bound on the norms of nonlinear perturbation which guarantees the exponential stability of the systems, is found. The numerical example is given to illustrate the results.

  • In the present paper, the problem of stability analysis for linear systems with interval time-varying delays is considered. By introducing a new Lyapunov-Krasovskii functional, new stability criteria are derived in terms of linear matrix inequalities (LMIs). Two numerical examples are given to show the superiority of the proposed method.

  • Because of the robust nonlinear characteristics appearing in today's modern power system, a strong interaction exists between the angle stability and the voltage stability, which were conventionally studied insularly. However, as the power system is a complex unified system, angle instability always happens in conjunction with voltage instability. The authors propose a novel method to analyze this type of stability problem. In the proposed method, the theory of normal forms of vector fields is utilized to treat the auxiliary dynamic system. By use of this method, the interaction between response modes caused by the nonlinearity of the power system can be analyzed. Consequently, the eigenvalue analysis method is extended to cope with performance analysis of the power system with heavy nonlinearity. The effectiveness of the proposed methodology is verified on a 3-bus power system.

  • The time domain simulation method of transient stability presents accuracy and reliability, but it demands much computational time. Therefore it is necessary to filter out very stable and very unstable cases from a large set of contingencies. Following a disturbance, the shape and magnitude of representative generator angle which is most increased after fault clearing are the measure of transient stability. This paper propose a method that is not a calculation of the exact CCT of contingency, but a fast assessment of transient stability. Also it can help operators identify transient stability immediately without analyzing the graphical results. The proposed method is applied to the KEPCO system. The PSS/E is used as a time domain simulation engine by IPLAN.

  • The problem of delay-dependent and parameter-dependent robust stability condition for discrete-time uncertain singular systems with polytopic uncertainty and interval time-varying delay is considered. A new robust stability condition based on parameter-dependent Lyapunov function is derived in terms of LMI (linear matrix inequality). Moreover, the proposed robust stability condition is a general condition for both singular and non-singular systems. A numerical example is presented to demonstrate the effectiveness of the proposed method.

  • This paper presents the linearized fuzzy modeling technique of nonlinear dynamical system and the stability analysis of fuzzy control system. Firstly, the nonlinear system is partitionized by multiple linear fuzzy subcontrol systems based on fuzzy linguistic variables and fuzzy rules. Secondly, the disturbance adaptation controllers which guarrantee the global asymptotic stability of each fuzzy subsystem by an optimal feedback control law are designed and the stability analysis procedures of the total fuzzy control system using Lyapunov functions and eigenvalues are discussed in detail through a given illustrative example.
