Mobile IPv6(MIPv6)에서 핸드오버가 수행된 후에 Mobile Node(MN)와 Correspondent node(CN)간에 직접 통신하기 위해 RO(Route Optimization)이 수반되어야 하며 이를 위해서는 Binding Update(BU)전에 Return Routability(RR) 과정이 수행되어야 한다.

Mobile IP [9] was introduced to help the mobile user to be contacted with a single IP address even though the point-of-access changes. However, mobile IP creates the so-called 'triangle routing' which makes the delays for data packets longer, as well as creating unnecessary traffic at the home network of the mobile user. To overcome this, Route Optimization (RO) for mobile IP [1] was proposed, which eliminated the triangle routing phenomenon. But [l] requires that the network protocol stack of all existing hosts to change. Privacy is also another matter to be considered. This paper introduces a scheme called Peer Agent scheme to implement RO for mobile IP without requiring existing hosts to change. Method to preserve location privacy while still enabling RO is also considered.
Network Mobility (NEMO) handles mobility of multiple nodes in an aggregate manner as a mobile network. The standard NEMO suffers from a number of limitations, such as inefficient routing and increased handoff latency. Most previous studies attempting to solve such problems have imposed an extra signaling load and/or modified the functionalities of the main entities. In this paper, we propose a more secure and lightweight route optimization (RO) mechanism based on exploiting the firewall in performing the RO services on behalf of the correspondent nodes (CNs). The proposed mechanism provides secure communications by making an authorized decision about the mobile router (MR) home of address, MR care of address, and the complete mobile network prefixes underneath the MR. In addition, it reduces the total signaling required for NEMO handoffs, especially when the number of mobile network nodes and/or CNs is increased. Moreover, our proposed mechanism can be easily deployed without modifying the mobility protocol stack of CNs. A thorough analytical model and network simulator (Ns-2) are used for evaluating the performance of the proposed mechanism compared with NEMO basic support protocol and state-of-the-art RO schemes. Numerical and simulation results demonstrate that our proposed mechanism outperforms other RO schemes in terms of handoff latency and total signaling load on wired and wireless links.
Out-of-Order Packet ($O^3P$) problem is an issue that significantly impacts to the QoS of service and network. Route optimization (RO) in PMIPv6 is proposed by P.Loureiro and M. Liebsch to reduce the load of LMAs and transmission delay. In RO scheme, at the time the optimal path is established, there exist two paths: optimal path and old path as non-optimal path for transmitting data between MN1 and MN2 that is the cause of $O^3P$ occurring. This paper proposes a scheme to prevent $O^3P$ problem by using packet buffering technique and a new mobility message, named End Traffic Marker (ETM) to mark the end of packet delivery through the old path.
우선, MR(Mobile Router)이 멀티캐스트 기능과 NeMRI(Nested Mobile Router Information) 테이블을 가지고 있다고 가정하고, NeMRI는 MR의 하위 모든 MR들의 CoA(Care of Address) 리스트와 MR들의 멀티캐스트 서비스 수신여부를 저장한다.
Network mobility (NEMO) has been studied extensively due to its potential applications in military and public transportation. NEMO Basic Support Protocol (NBSP) [1], the current NEMO standard based on mobile IPv6, can be readily deployed using the existing mobile IPv6 infrastructure. However, for Nested network mobility, multi-level tunnel and too many Binding Update packets results in substantial performance overhead, generally known as route sub-optimality, especially in the bottleneck root mobile router (root-MR) and Access Router. In this paper, we propose a route optimization mechanism for nested network mobility management to reduce the overhead of root-MR. In this system, Mobile Router (MR) has a cache that stores Mobile Network Nodes' (MNN) information, Correspondent Nodes' (CN) information for every MNN,and the attachments information with its subnet MRs. Home Agent performs Binding Update with CNs responsible for MRs. Through this mechanism, the number of tunnel is limited between CN and MR and the overhead of root-MR is reduced obviously.

Mobile IP (MIP) is the solution supporting the mobility of Mobile Nodes (MNs), however, it is known to lack the support for NEtwork MObility (NEMO). NEMO manages situations when an entire network, composed of one or more subnets, dynamically changes its point of attachment to the Internet. NEMO Basic Support (NBS) protocol ensures session continuity for all the nodes in a mobile network, however, there exists a serious pinball routing problem. To overcome this weakness, there are many Route Optimization (RO) solutions such as Bi-directional Tunneling (BT) mechanism, Aggregation and Surrogate (A&S) mechanism, Recursive Approach, etc. The A&S RO mechanism is known to outperform the other RO mechanisms, except for the Binding Update (BU) cost. Although Improved Prefix Delegation (IPD) reduces the cost problem of Prefix Delegation (PD), a well-known A&S protocol, the BU cost problem still presents, especially when a large number of Mobile Routers (MRs) and MNs exist in the environment such as train, bus, ship, or aircraft. In this paper, a solution to reduce the cost of delivering the BU messages is proposed using a multicast mechanism instead of unicasting such as the traditional BU of the RO. The performance of the proposed multicast-based BU scheme is examined with an analytical model which shows that the BU cost enhancement is up to 32.9% over IPDbased, hence, it is feasible to predict that the proposed scheme could benefit in other NEMO RO protocols.
