  • This study aims to identify the status of the classification retrieval operation by investigating and analyzing the classification retrieval related to the books in the university libraries. The Investigation concentrated on whether the classification retrieval service is provided, Access Method and classification retrieval level. The data was collected from 97 libraries where URL access was available during the period of survey in 100 libraries selected by the systematic sampling. As a result, while $92.8\%$ of 97 libraries provided the classification retrieval service, $52.2\%$ of it enabled the access to classification retrieval service only by the classification number and $47.8\%$ by classification number and classification directory. Consequently, it was found that the retrieval environment in the libraries where the access was enabled only by classification number should be urgently improved for the activation of classification retrieval.

  • Many information retrieval systems have a simple process structure that a client process for a user is mapped to a server process for information retrieval. That is, when using information retrieval systems, each user is allocated a big process that consists of user interfaces, retrieval automatic indexing systems and storage systems. Therefor when many users use the information retrieval systems, it might be difficult to use the information retrieval systems. This is because the system overhead is increased as enormously much as users cannot use them. In this paper, we propose a new process structure for constructing efficient information retrieval systems that solves the problem resulting from he process structure. The proposed process structure contributes to the whole operational performance improvement of information retrieval systems and the efficientnt use of computer system resources. It is constructed based on a multi-threading scheme and a transaction processing monitor.

  • In this paper, we propose new semantic contents modeling using individual features, associative relations and visual features for efficiently supporting browsing and retrieval of video semantic contents. And we implement and design a browsing and retrieval system based on the semantic contents modeling. The browsing system supports annotation based information, keyframe based visual information, associative relations, and text based semantic information using a tree based browsing technique. The retrieval system supports text based retrieval, visual feature and associative relations according to the retrieval types of semantic contents.

  • The objective of this study is to develop a useful relevance feedback retrieval technique that can be applied to the current Boolean retrieval system. A feedback retrieval technique based on user model is recommended here to achieve this objective. To prove the usefulness of this feedback retrieval technique, two enhanced Boolean retrieval models including DNF model and P-norm model were evaluated first through retrieval effectiveness experiments. After selecting DNF model as the retrieval model, two feedback retrieval experiments were performed using initial and extended user models. It is proved that the feedback retrieval based on user model can greatly enhance the effectiveness of a Boolean retrieval system with a small modification.

  • With the rapid expansion of web information, conventional information retrieval techniques are becoming inadequate for users and often result in disappointment, because a couple of simple keywords can easily produce information too much. This study aims at the development of Web information retrieval techniques based on semantics to improve the quality of understanding for information. To achieve the goal, this study analyzes technologies and current status of researches on semantic information retrieval. With the results which are requirements, system architecture and indexing method, this study proposes the system architecture of semantic-based information retrieval system.

  • Information Retrieval System aims towards providing fast and accurate information to users. However, current search systems are based on plain svntactic analysis which makes it difficult for the user to find the exact required information. This paper proposes the SW-IRS (Semantic Web-based Information Retrieval System) using an Ontology Server. The proposed system is purposed to maximize efficiency and accuracy of information retrieval of unstructured and semi-structured documents by using an agent-based automatic classification technology and semantic web based information retrieval methods. For interoperability and easy integration, RDF based repository system is supported, and the newly developed ranking algorithm was applied to rank search results and provide more accurate and reliable information. Finally, a new ranking algorithm is suggested to be used to evaluate performance and verify the efficiency and accuracy of the proposed retrieval system.

  • This paper proposes a new referential model for data retrieval as an alternative to exact matching. While exact matching is an effective data retrieval model, it is based on fairly strict assumptions and limits our capabilities in data retrieval. This study redefines data retrieval to include non-binary data retrieval in addition to binary data retrieval, proposes Double Anchor Preference Model (DAPM), and analyzes its logical charateristics. DAPM supports non-binary data retrieval. Further, it produces the same result as exact matching for the conventional binary data retrieval. These findings show that, at the logical level, the proposed DAPM retains all the desirable features for data retrieval.

  • In linguistics, stemming is the operation of reducing words to their more general form, which is called the 'stem'. Stemming is an important step in information retrieval systems, natural language processing, and text mining. Information retrieval systems are evaluated by metrics like precision and recall and the fundamental superiority of an information retrieval system over another one is measured by them. Stemmers decrease the indexed file, increase the speed of information retrieval systems, and improve the performance of these systems by boosting precision and recall. There are few Persian stemmers and most of them work based on morphological rules. In this paper we carefully study Persian stemmers, which are classified into three main classes: structural stemmers, lookup table stemmers, and statistical stemmers. We describe the algorithms of each class carefully and present the weaknesses and strengths of each Persian stemmer. We also propose some metrics to compare and evaluate each stemmer by them.

  • In this paper, we propose a robust music retrieval system based on the content analysis of music. New feature extraction method called Multi-Feature Clustering (MFC) is proposed for the robust and optimum performance of the music retrieval system. It is demonstrated that the use of MFC significantly improves the system stability of music retrieval with better classification accuracy.

  • We describe a novel method for improving the performance of the UCC retrieval using content reputation and user reputation. The UCC retrieval is a part of the information retrieval. The goal of the information retrieval system finds documents what users want, so the goal of the UCC retrieval system tries to find UCCs themselves instead of documents. Unlike the document, the UCC has not enough textual information. Therefore, we try to use the content reputation and the user reputation based on non-textual information to gain improved retrieval performance. We evaluate content reputation using the information of the UCC itself and social activities between users related with UCCs. We evaluate user reputation using individual social activities between users or users and UCCs. We build a network with users and UCCs from social activities, and then we can get the user reputation from the network by graph algorithms. We collect the information of users and UCCs from YouTube and implement two systems using content reputation and user reputation. And then we compare two systems. From the experiment results, we can see that the system using content reputation outperforms than the system using user reputation. This result is expected to use the UCC retrieval in the feature.
