A study of the value of Korean medical text "Uibang Yuchi(醫方類聚)" as a representative Database for developing new diseases treatment skills (『의방유취』를 이용한 한의학 치료기술 개발의 가능성에 대한 모델링 연구)

  • This paper is a study that considers how current scientific medicine could be supported by traditional medicine, and if the scope of this support is expected to gradually widen. This study begins by understanding the process by which Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) has developed interventions for COVID-19. We then examine what support is offered by the ancient Korean medical text "Uibang Yuchi". This paper insists that a key database is absolutely necessary to develop treatment techniques for new diseases. The key database should be considered not only from the point of view of knowledge but also from the point of view of intellectual property rights, and for this reason, the text of "Uibang Yuchi" is important. This paper shows the process of how a new treatment technique can be derived from the ancient book "Uibang Yuchi". We expect that the suggested model would play a role as a reference model in the process of pursuing similar strategies in the future.

A Comparative Study on the Transition of Purlin Coupling Method of Korean and Chinese Ancient Wooden Constructions (한중 목조건축 도리 결합방식 변천(變遷)에 관한 비교연구)

  • This study was to understand the basic principles of the East Asian wooden structure system research and analysis. The Korea and China ancient architecture internal structure research that the combination of girders and crossbeams position. The ancient wooden structures of eastern Asian countries, Korea and China are not much different from each other in the principles of the wooden architecture structure, combining pillars, purlins and crossbeams. However, it seems that age-division, local-division, national-division differs in detail techniques. China ancient wooden structures combination of purlin and crossbeam, and So-seul Timber(Chinese name: Chashou叉手, Tuojiao 托脚) seems to show differences according to the age of the fulcrum position, detailed approach is also different according to various historical dynasty. Before in the 15th century, Purlin and Crossbeam are coupled to each other, but since the 15th century, seems to have developed a technique combined with each other Girder and Crossbeam and to prevent buckling of the Crossbeam cross-sectional area increased dramatically. For Tuojiao in China Tang-Wudai dynasty(A.D. 618~979), can see that saw the top position Girder and Tuojiao no direct coupling, can be seen as maintaining the safety of the material than the material of the inner wooden structures prevent buckling of the purlin.   • In this study, as the passing of a year, the changes of tidal flat area in Seohan Bay, North Korea was monitored through using Landsat ETM Data and the ancient topological map. The map to present tidal flat distribution characteristic based on the ancient topographical map (1918) was constructed as GIS DB. In addition, a tidal flat distribution map was estimated by using the satellite images with unsupervised classification method. Even though it is difficult to approach to study area, it was possible to gain the data and to monitor the change of the coast tidal flat by comparing to area change yielded.

  • This study is to exhibit the iconographic narrative and visual culture of ancient Chinese art. The focus of the study is the composite integration of literature and graphic forms, in particular the heterochronous expression of different scenarios of scenes occurring in different time periods in pictures of ancient art. The unity of their origins with picture narration and comic art creation is the fusion of our modern times. The ancient Chinese understanding of visual art includes the traditional style of images and their symbolic meanings. Among artistic narrative expression, imagery contemplation and visual presentation have significance. Artistic thinking is inseparable from visual articulation. It is a rational thought process through creative language interpretation in visual media of imagery narratives. The characteristics of ancient imagery thinking and the way of presenting sequential incidents in the form pictures is a creative space of time. This is the spatial thinking of modern comic art, which is demonstrated through acceptance in artistic styles. Image narration needs new forms and media styles, including integrating with cultural values as aesthetic communication is necessary.

Microbial Diversity inside Ancient Tombs and Burial Accessories from Gaya Age (가야시대 고분 및 부장품 내에 존재하는 미생물의 다양성 조사)

  • Microbial diversity of soil samples from ancient stone-lined tombs was investigated. The tombs, discovered at Eoryung Ocheon-Ri site, Korea, were estimated to be belonged to middle class people from an ancient country, Gaya, which existed till AD 559 at the southern part of Korea. Nine fungal stains and 70 bacterial strains were isolated from the twelve soil samples, which were collected from the tomb Nos. 5 and 6. Ribosomal DNA sequence analysis discovered 5 fungal and 22 bacterial strains belonged to 10 genus groups from the tomb No. 5 while 1 fungal and 28 bacterial strains belonged to 6 genus from the tomb No. 6. The higher microbial diversity suggests that the tomb No. 5 was constructed warmer season than the tomb No. 6. Moreover, the discovery of Staphylococcus warneri, which is found as part of the skin flora on human and animals, and Bacillus aquimaris, which is a marine bacterium and can be discovered from tidal flat, from the surface of large dagger suggests that the ancient people may use meat and seafood at the burial ceremony.

  • In ancient Goryeo celadon, the effect of the chemical composition and ionic state of Fe on the color was evaluated by Mossbauer spectroscopy and Design of Experiment (DOE) analysis. The ancient celadon pieces excavated from the kiln sites in GangJin and Buan areas were analyzed by Mssbauer spectroscopy, chromaticity, and DOE analysis. The color of celadon was found to be mainly determined by that of glaze since variations of $L^*$, $a^*$, and $b^*$ values for the body were much smaller than those for the glaze. As $Fe^{2+}$/$Fe^{3+}$ in glaze increases, $L^*$ value increases, whereas $a^*$/$b^*$ value decreases, which is well consistent with the result on the synthetic glaze. As the amount of titanium increases in the glaze, the $a^*$ and $b^*$ values decrease; on the other hand, the $L^*$ value increases, which is well consistent with the result on the synthetic glaze.

  • An ancient Korean bronze dagger excavated from Yongjai-ri, Iksan-kun, presumed to be manufactured in the pre-historical age, was examined by means of chemical analysis, energy dispersive spectrometry, optical and scanning electron microscopy. Also the measurement of lead isotope ratios was carried out in order to predict the site where raw materials were produced. The composition was identified as 75.3% Cu, 17.1% Sn and 6.8% Pb which was a typical composition of Korean bronze dagger. The microstructure was consisted of ${\alpha}$ and (${\alpha}+{\delta}$) eutectoid. The (${\alpha}+{\delta}$) eutectoid can be easily corroded in comparison with ${\alpha}$. The segregation was frequently observed in the interior of the sample. According to the lead isotopes ratios, raw materials have possibility to be from North China.

The Characteristics of Types on Ancient Wooden Shoes(Namagsin) of Korea and Japan (한·일 고대 나막신의 유형별 특징연구)

  • This study is aims to study the background of how the shape of the wooden shoes developed and worn by Koreans and Japanese in the ancient times by sorting and examining the types and shapes. Relevant bibliography, which are mainly related to the excavated wooden shoes from 3 B.C.E to C.E. 8., were used as research materials. The formation of wooden shoes required easy access to raw materials -which is trees- for production. According to the analysis, both Korea and Japan made the flat wooden shoes using cuboid wood. Both countries bore a hole on a specific location to distinguish the right foot and left foot, however the style of the heel was different in the two countries. The slip-on(Undu-hyeong) wooden shoes were also common in both countries. The slip-on had no-heels and was made by digging-out a piece of the cuboid wood. Some slip-ons made by the Japanese had furrows on the bottom, and they were known to make different types of the slip-on wooden shoes depending on the purpose. Observation of the wearing methods show that commonality can be found between the wooden shoes of Korea and Japan, and this indicates that cultural exchanges between the Silla/Baekje and Japan took place from the 4th to the 6th century. Also, the flat wooden shoes in Japan developed rapidly, as the shoes became an integral part of its life and culture, which was closely tied to agriculture. Eventually, due to the difference in climate and life-style, the slip-ons became the primary type of wooden shoes in Korea, while the flats became the main type of wooden shoes in Japan. It is, however, clear that as the relationship between the two countries became closer, the cultural exchanges regarding the wooden shoes were considerable.
