  • The so-called boundary node method (or NDIF method) that was developed by the authors has been extended for free vibration analysis of arbitrarily shaped plates with free edges. Since the proposed method is based on the collocation method, no integration procedure is needed on boundary edges of the plates and only a small amount of numerical calculation is required. A special coordinate transformation has been devised to consider the complicated free boundary conditions at boundary nodes. By the use of the special coordinate transformation, the radius of curvature involved in the free boundary conditions can be successfully dealt with. Finally, verification examples show that natural frequencies obtained by the present method agree well with those given by exact method and other analytical methods.

  • Recently researches for high speed machining have been actively performed. Few analytical studies, however, have been published. In this paper, a model of cutting forces is analytically studied to predict cutting characteristics in end mill process, especially considering both feed rate and spindle speed. The developed cutting model is based on Oxley's machining theory, which predicts the cutting forces from input data of workpiece material properties, tool geometry and cutting conditions. Experimental verification has been performed to verify the predictive cutting force model using tool dynamometer. It has been found that the simulation results substantially agree with experimental results.

  • A 6 DOF Multi axis simulation table (MAST) is used to perform vibration and fatigue tests for parts or assemblies of automobiles, aircraft, or other systems. It consists of a table and 6 linear actuators. For its attitude control, we have to adjust the lengths of 6 actuators properly. The system is essentially a parallel mechanism. Three actuators are connected to the table directly and other three actuators are connected indirectly. Because of these, the MAST shows also a serial mechanism#s property: the inverse kinematics is more complicated than a pure parallel mechanism and each actuator can operate independently. The authors have performed a kinematics analysis of the 6 DOF MAST. We have presented an analytical and a numerical solution for the inverse and forward kinematics, and we have verified the solutions by a 3D CAD software.

  • An elevator system which is a essential equipment for a vertical movement of object, as a property of building, have been drove by various expenditure and purpose. Since developing electrical control technology, control systems are highly developed. An elevator equipment is expended to wide, but a data accuracy acquisition technique and safety predict technique for securing system safety is still basic level. So, objective verification for elevator confidence condition is required absolutely accuracy measurement technique. Therefore, this study is accomplished in order to conquer a method of depending on sense of a manager with a simple numeric measurement data, and construct a logical, analytical foresight system for more efficient elevator management system.

  • An experimental and analytical study was made on the heat transfer characteristics of one small (150 W), two medium (60 and 1,500 W, respectively) and two large (7,500and 100,000 W) two-phase loop thermosyphons (TLT), and the results from the experiments were used to see if a computer simulation code alone for such TLT heat transfer systems would give any meaningful quantitative results without being accompanied with some benchmark experimental verification. Two simulation methods were used for the analysis of the systems, i.e., the lumped and the sectorial thermal resistance methods. The study clearly shows that the computer simulation for the three TLTs can predict the most cases of the affecting parameters involved, provided that correct empirical correlations are used. To do so, however, the interior temperature distribution had to be verified by experiment.

  • High level random vibration environments induced while launching of spacecraft can damage sensitive electronic equipment very rapidly, unless the equipment is properly packaged. Thus very careful consideration on the launch environment, especially for high level random vibration, is required in the design stage of electronic equipment of spacecraft. This paper describes the development process of Solar Array Regulator for KOMPAT-2, which is designed and tested by Korean engineers. Both analytical and experimental techniques are introduced in this paper.

  • The analytical expressions for magnetic field distributions considering slotting effects, cogging torque and back-emf considering skew effects are established. On the basis of magnetic field solutions, electrical parameters such as back-emf constant and winding inductance are obtained. The predicted results are validated extensively by non-linear finite element (FE) analyses. In particular, test results such as back-emf, cogging torque, inductance and resistance measurements are given to confirm the analyses. Finally, generating performances are investigated by applying estimated parameters to equivalent circuit (EC) of the permanent magnet generator (PMG) and validated extensively by FE calculations and measurements.

  • The Characteristics of dividing the dispersed bubble, plug, and slug steam-water flow in the horizontal junctions with horizontal branches have been experimentally investigated. The experimental investigation of the separation phenomena in a $45^{\circ}$ horizontal wye with equal pipe inner diameter of 25 mm is presented to provide a data base for the development and verification of the analytical models. The phase separation and pressure distribution in the three legs of each test section are obtained through the set of measurements made in the present work. And the dependence of phase separation on different parameters, such as inlet quality and mass flux, is discussed.

  • The method based on various mathematical characteristic equations for identifying tensile forces in the cable structure system are used as response data to reflect the properties of the dynamic sensitivity. The vibration tests have been conducted with respect to levels of applied weight for the sagged cable. In this study, a set of natural frequencies are extracted from the measured dynamic data. Next, existing characteristic equation methods based these extracted natural frequencies are applied to identify tensil forces of the sagged cable system. Through several verification procedures, the proposed methods could be applied to a sagged cable system when the initial material data are insufficiency.

  • The handoff area is the region where a call can be handled by two base stations in any of the adjacent cells, and duration time is defined as the time a mobile station resides in the handoff area. It is proven that handoff duration time follows gamma distribution from simulation results[7]. So in this paper, parameters(shape and scale) in gamma distribution are derived by analytic method. And mean, standard deviation, and parameters are compared with simulation results for verification of analytic method.
