Experimental results of cyclic reversed lateral force test on a two-story reinforced concrete shear wall sub-assemblage are simulated analytically by using the PERFORM-3D program. A comparison of experimental and analytical results leads to the following conclusions: (1) "Shear Wall" and "General Wall" models with "Concrete shear" cannot simulate the pinching phenomena due to shear and show larger amounts of inelastic energy absorption than those in the experiment. (2) Modeling a story-height wall by using two or more "General Wall" elements with "Diagonal shear" in the vertical direction induces the phenomenon of swelling-out at the belly, leading to the erroneous simulation of shear behaviors. In application to tall building structures, it is recommended to use one element of "General Wall" with "Diagonal shear" for the full height of a story. (3) In the plastic hinge area, concrete deformations of analytical models overestimate elongation and underestimate shortening when compared with experimental results.
The current paper presents the numerical blind prediction of nonlinear seismic response of two full-scale, three dimensional, one-story reinforced concrete structures subjected to bidirectional earthquake simulations on shaking table. Simulations were carried out at the laboratories of LNEC (Laboratorio Nacional de Engenharia Civil) in Lisbon, Portugal. The study was motivated by participation in the blind prediction contest of shaking table tests, organized by the challenge committee of the 15th World Conference on Earthquake Engineering. The test specimens, geometrically identical, designed for low and high ductility levels, were subjected to subsequent earthquake motions of increasing intensity. Three dimensional nonlinear analytical models were implemented and subjected to the input base motions. Reasonably accurate reproduction of the measured displacement response was obtained through appropriate modeling. The goodness of fit between analytical and measured results depended on the details of the analytical models.

In this paper, a high-sensitivity low power photodetector using double gate (DG) MOSFET is proposed for the first time using change in subthreshold current under illumination as the sensitivity parameter. An analytical model for optically controlled double gate (DG) MOSFET under illumination is developed to demonstrate that it can be used as high sensitivity photodetector and simulation results are used to validate the analytical results. Sensitivity of the device is compared with conventional bulk MOSFET and results show that DG MOSFET has higher sensitivity over bulk MOSFET due to much lower dark current obtained in DG MOSFET because of its effective gate control. Impact of the silicon film thickness and gate stack engineering is also studied on sensitivity.
OFDM/FH communication system Is widely used in the wireless communication for the large capacity and high-speed data transmission. However, phase noise and PAPR (peak-to-average power ratio) are the serious problems causing performance impairment. In this paper, PLL (phase locked loop) frequency synthesizer with high switching speed is used for the phase noise model. SSPA and TWTA are considered for the nonlinear HPA model. Under these conditions and by approximating $e^{j{\phi}[m]}$ into $1 + j{\phi}[m]-\frac{1}{2}{\phi}^2[m]$ for the phase noise nonlinear approximation, SINR (signal-to-interference-noise-ratio) with nonlinear HPA and phase noise is derived in the OFDM/FH system. The bit error probabilities (BER) are found by computer simulation method and semi-analytical method. The simulation results closely match with the semi-analytical results.
This study presents an analytical model of hydraulic clutch system of a power shift transmission to analyze pressure modulation characteristics. A typical hydraulic clutch system was modeled by using AMESim in which the parameters of major components were measured for simulation. Test apparatus was established using the components of power shift and power shuttle clutches with instrumental equipment. The results of simulation and experiment were so close that the proposed analytical model in this study was validated. However the cylinder model analogized clutch dynamics need to be improved in future study. The effects of parameters of orifice diameter, accumulator stroke and oil temperature on pressure modulation were analyzed respectively. The results of parameter sensitivity analysis show that modulation time and set pressure can be easily adjusted by changing parameter values. It is also found that the hydraulic clutch system used in this study is so susceptible to oil temperature that cooling equipment is necessary.

In the proposed work a 2D analytical modeling of single halo Triple material Surrounding Gate (SH-TMSG) MOSFET is developed. The Surface potential and Electric Field has been derived using parabolic approximation method and the simulation results are analyzed. The essential substantive is provided which elicits the deterioration of short channel effects and the results of the analytical model are delineated and compared with MEDICI simulation results and it is well corroborated.
We present an approximate analytical model to estimate throughput capacity and expected waiting times for move requests of an Automated Guided Vehicle System(AGVS) used in manufacturing. This analytical model considers an empty vehicle dispatching rule, namely, the First-Come-First-Served(FCFS) rule. The performance of the analytical model is tested extensively through simulation. Using this model one can rapidly evaluate a wide range of handling and layout alternatives for given flow data. Hence, the model would be most effective when used early in the design phase to narrow down the set of alternative handling systems and configurations prior to simulation.
This paper presents a analytical method for the reliability evaluation of distribution system, including the distributed generations. Unlike the generators of transmission system, those of distribution system have complexities in analyzing and determining the operation. In the process of evaluate reliability, it could be shown that the analytical method is simpler than the monte-carlo simulation. Modeling technique of distributed generation to analysis distribution system reliability using frequency and duration method is proposed in this paper, and is compared with the simulation method as a result of the distribution system reliability evaluation.
PURPOSES : In this paper, the analytical solutions suggested to simulate the behavior of rheological fluids were rigorously re-derived and investigated for fixed conditions to evaluate the applicability for the solutions on a mini-cone slump test of cement paste. The selected solutions with proper boundary conditions can be used as reference solutions to evaluate the performance of numerical simulation approaches, such as the discrete element method. METHODS : The slump, height, and spread radius for the given boundary and yield stress conditions that are determined by five different analytical solutions are compared. RESULTS : The analytical solution based on fluid mechanics for pure shear flow shows similar results to that for intermediate flow at low yield stresses. The fluid mechanics-based analytical solution resulted in a very similar trend to the geometry-based analytical solution. However, it showed a higher slump at high yield stress and lower slump at low yield stress ranges than the geometry-based analytical model. The analytical solution based on the mini-cone geometry was not significantly affected by the yield criteria, such as von Mises and Tresca. CONCLUSIONS : Even though differences among the analytical solutions in terms of slump and spread radius existed, the difference can be considered insignificant when the solutions were used as reference to evaluate the appropriateness of numerical approaches, such as the discrete element method.

In recent years the interest in online monitoring of lightweight structures with ultrasonic guided waves is steadily growing. Especially the aircraft industry is a driving force in the development of structural health monitoring (SHM) systems. In order to optimally design SHM systems powerful and efficient numerical simulation tools to predict the behaviour of ultrasonic elastic waves in thin-walled structures are required. It has been shown that in real industrial applications, such as airplane wings or fuselages, conventional linear and quadratic pure displacement finite elements commonly used to model ultrasonic elastic waves quickly reach their limits. The required mesh density, to obtain good quality solutions, results in enormous computational costs when solving the wave propagation problem in the time domain. To resolve this problem different possibilities are available. Analytical methods and higher order finite element method approaches (HO-FEM), like p-FEM, spectral elements, spectral analysis and isogeometric analysis, are among them. Although analytical approaches offer fast and accurate results, they are limited to rather simple geometries. On the other hand, the application of higher order finite element schemes is a computationally demanding task. The drawbacks of both methods can be circumvented if regions of complex geometry are modelled using a HO-FEM approach while the response of the remaining structure is computed utilizing an analytical approach. The objective of the paper is to present an efficient method to couple different HO-FEM schemes with an analytical description of an undisturbed region. Using this hybrid formulation the numerical effort can be drastically reduced. The functionality of the proposed scheme is demonstrated by studying the propagation of ultrasonic guided waves in plates, excited by a piezoelectric patch actuator. The actuator is modelled utilizing higher order coupled field finite elements, whereas the homogenous, isotropic plate is described analytically. The results of this "semi-analytical" approach highlight the opportunities to reduce the numerical effort if closed-form solutions are partially available.
