This article examines the ways in which language can be exploited in the manipulation of the reader's interpretation of a text to make him/her take certain lines of thought according to the writer's persuasive intents. Such functions of language provide valid foundations to support the teaching of critical reading skills and to explore an adequate approach to discourse analysis. A pilot study was conducted to find out the extent to which the reader can be coaxed into thinking in some fashions guided by specific linguistic devices employed for ideological texts. Forty-seven subjects divided into two groups (humanities majors and natural science majors at undergraduate level) joined the two-fold questionnaire surveys intended to look at their critical reading abilities. The empirical results indicate that college students whose majors are humanities were more inclined to take a holistic approach in processing commercial advertisement texts and their abilities for critical interpretation appeared to be lower than those of the subjects whose majors are natural sciences, who showed a relatively high tendency to take an analytical approach in decoding the textual facts. As a consequence, pedagogic implications for increasing critical reading abilities have resulted in a set of analytical procedures concerning ideological texts which is linked with instructional guidelines to emphasize the importance of the reader's logical and analytical reasoning power, entirely accepted as a general prerequisite for cracking the covert language gambits.
The purpose of this study is to illuminate the location of fashion in contemporary society and to suggest a direction for fashion criticism in aesthetic$\hat{u}$cultural perspective. For this, literature researches about some of art criticism and fashion criticism theories and cultural studies related to fashion are performed. In this study, fashion criticism is defined as a linguistic analysis and interpretation about a variety of discursive networks around fashion as well as an aesthetic analysis of it. Considering this definition, an analytical framework for the contemporary fashion criticism combines Feldman's and Carney's models with Crane & Bovone's and Entwistle's sociological studies for aesthetic and cultural perspectives. At first, its aesthetic perspective shows 'Description'-'Descriptive formative features', 'Analysis'-'Locate the style' and 'Aesthetic value', 'Interpretation'- 'Interpretation of the fashion object' and 'Socio-cultural interpretation', 'Judgment'-'Critical judgment'. Then, its cultural perspective especially emphasizes 'Socio-cultural interpretation' of the 6 steps above. Socio-cultural interpretation gets tangled with the network of various cultural agents within the fashion system, producers/designers, retailers/suppliers, media/editors, consumers/spectators, and so on. In the course of the fashion system 5 analytical methods about the fashion object can be suggested and they are as follows: Analyses of texts, discourses and symbols of a fashion object, Analyses of fashion systems which produces symbolic values, Analyses of the communication of symbolic values and the disseminating processes through the media, Analyses of the attribution of symbolic values to a fashion object by consumers, and Cross-national studies of symbolic values expressed in a fashion object.

Complex stress distributions often exist in ocean engineering structures. This stress influences structural vibrations. Finite Element Methods exhibit some shortcomings for solving non-uniform stress problems, such as an unclear physical interpretation, complicated operation, and large number of computations. Analytical methods research considers mainly uniform stress problems, and often, their methods cannot be applied in practical marine structures with non-uniform stress. In this paper, an analytical method is proposed to solve the vibration of plates with general stress distributions. Non-uniform stress is expressed as a special series, and the stress influence is inserted into a vibration equation that is solved through decoupling to obtain an analytical solution. This method has been verified using numerical examples and can be used in arbitrary stress distribution cases. This method requires fewer computations and it provides a clearer physical interpretation, so it has advantages in some qualitative research.

In this study, a series of CID tests were performed on gypsum-cemented specimens to determin the cohesion intercept and the confined stress start to break the cementation bonds (${q_i}'_{(BP)}$). And the relationships between the unconfined compressive strength ($q_{ucs}$) and cohesion intercept or ${q_i}'_{(BP)}$ were investigated. From the experiments, it was concluded that the friction angle of cemented sands is not affected by cementation while the cohesion intercept of cemented sands significantly influenced by cementation and is constant before ${q_i}'_{(BP)}$. By an analytical interpretation, the failure strength of cemented specimen could be represented by summation of the failure strength of uncemented specimen and the unconfined compressive strength of cemented one. And the cohesion intercept of cemented specimen was represented as a linear relation with the unconfined compressive strength. Those analytical values of failure strength and cohesion intercept almost coincided with the experimental values of those. In addition, the ${q_i}'_{(BP)}$ also could be related with unconfined compressive strength linearly.

This paper presents an investigation into the operational comparison of SPOT triangulation to build GCP library by analytical plotter and DPW (digital photogrammetric workstation). GCP database derived from current SPOT images can be used to other image sensors of satellite, if any reasons, such as lack of topographic maps or GCPs. But, general formulation of a photogrammetric process for GCP measurement has to take care of the scene interpretation problem. There are two classical methods depending on whether an analytical plotter or DPW is being used. Regardless of the method used, the measurement of GCPs is the weakest point in the automation of photogrammetric orientation procedures. To make an operational comparison, five models of SPOT panchromatic images (level 1A) and negative films (level 1AP) were used. Ten images and film products were used for the five GRS areas. Photogrammetric measurements were carried out in a manual mode on P2 analytical plotter and LH Systems DPW770. We presented an approach for exterior orientation of SPOT images, which was based on the use of approximately eighty national geodetic control points as GCPs which located on the summit of the mountain. Using sixteen well-spaced geodetic control points per model, all segments consistently showed RMS error just below the pixel at the check points in analytical instrument. In the case of DPW, half of the ground controls could not found or distinguished exactly when we displayed the image on the computer monitor. Experiment results showed that the RMS errors with DPW test was fluctuated case by case. And the magnitudes of the errors were reached more than three pixels due to the lack of image interpretation capability. It showed that the geodetic control points is not suitable as the ground control points in DPW for modeling the SPOT image.
A linear and optimum linear systems have been reviewed in some detail. The procedure of the solution of the Wiener-Hopf equation analytically in time domain is given and the prediction of downstream outflow for given upstream inflow are made. The predicted results are fairly satisfaotory. The intended physical interpretation of the analytical solution could be descriptable but it was found that the evaluation of the parameters of the response function is rather difficult due to complicacy and a great deal of works.
In this paper, the computerized interpretation of the analytical chemical data, especially GC/MS data, was performed for the purpose of prescreening of the target compounds. First, the data from the analytical instrument was analyzed to get the information about the retention time of the ISTD and the time inteval between the records. Second, the identification of the characteristic ion peaks was performed by calculating the ratio of the heights and the relative slope sensitivity of the characteristic mass abundance.
This article is an analysis of the tale Munhŭi who bought a dream which has been reported, with few variants, both in Samguk sagi and Samguk yusa. As the tale narrates a very particular and old dream, in which a urine flood forecasts kingship and royalty, it has not been investigated here on the basis of a modern psycho-analytical approach, but within eastern and western ancient cultural patterns regarding humans' consideration for excreta and criteria of dreams interpretation. The research led the author to propose for Munhŭi's dream an archaic (and today lost) archetype of interpretation, whose origin is perhaps to be found in the Ancient Middle-East.
The analysis of nuclear materials and environmental samples is an important issue in nuclear safeguards and nuclear forensics. An analysis technique for safeguard samples has been developed for the detection of undeclared nuclear activities and verification of declared nuclear activities, while nuclear forensics has been developed to trace the origins and intended use of illicitly trafficked nuclear or radioactive materials. In these two analytical techniques, mass spectrometry has played an important role in determining the isotope ratio of various nuclides, contents of trace elements, and production dates. These two techniques typically use similar analytical instruments, but the analytical procedure and the interpretation of analytical results differ depending on the analytical purpose. The isotopic ratio of the samples is considered the most important result in an environmental sample analysis, while age dating and impurity analysis may also be important for nuclear forensics. In this review, important aspects of these techniques are compared and the role of mass spectrometry, along with recent progress in related technologies, are discussed.
