  • The major function of the nacelle cover is protecting the inside equipments. Therefore, it is required not only sufficient strength and stability but also light weight. In this paper, design loads are calculated according to the GL Wind guideline Ed. 2003. To ensure the structural safety, a composite structure is selected. The structural design is processed by two steps which are preliminary design and detail design. In the preliminary design step, a structural analysis is performed with initial thickness, 5mm. As reviewing above analysis results, weak regions of the nacelle cover reinforced using the spar cap structure which is same as the blade structure. In the analysis model, the support structure is connected with the nacelle cover and analyzed its structural safety at the same time.

  • To solve structural optimization problems, it is necessary to integrate a structural analysis package and an optimization package. There have been many packages that can be employed to analyze reinforced concrete plane frames. However, because most structural analysis packages suffer from closeness of systems, it is very difficult to integrate them with optimization packages. To overcome the difficulty, we proposed a possible alternative, DAMDO, which integrates Design, Analysis, Modeling, Definition, and Optimization phases into an integration environment as follows. (1) Design: first generate many possible structural design alternatives. Each design alternative consists of many design variables X. (2) Analysis: employ the structural analysis software to analyze all structural design alternatives to obtain their internal forces and displacements. They are the response variables Y. (3) Modeling: employ artificial neural networks to build the models Y=f(X) to obtain the relationship functions between the design variables X and the response variables Y. (4) Definition: employ the design variables X and the response variables Y to define the objective function and constraint functions. (5) Optimization: employ the optimization software to solve the optimization problem consisting of the objective function and the constraint functions to produce the optimum design variables. The RC frame optimization problem was examined to evaluate the DAMDO approach, and the empirical results showed that it can be solved by the approach.

  • Along with the transition to the fourth industrial revolution, the possibility of metaverse-based innovation in the fashion field has been confirmed, and various applications are being sought. Therefore, this study performs meaning structure analysis and discusses the prospects of meta fashion using big data. From 2020 to 2022, data including the keyword "metaverse + fashion design" were collected from portal sites (Naver, Daum, and Google), and the results of keyword frequency, N-gram, and TF-IDF analyses were derived using text mining. Furthermore, network visualization and CONCOR analysis were performed using Ucinet 6 to understand the interconnected structure between keywords and their essential meanings. The results were as follows: The main keywords appeared in the following order: fashion, metaverse, design, 3D, platform, apparel, and virtual. In the N-gram analysis, the density between fashion and metaverse words was high, and in the TF-IDF analysis results, the importance of content- and technology-related words such as 3D, apparel, platform, NFT, education, AI, avatar, MCM, and meta-fashion was confirmed. Through network visualization and CONCOR analysis using Ucinet 6, three cluster results were derived from the top emerging words: "metaverse fashion design and industry," "metaverse fashion design and education," and "metaverse fashion design platform." CONCOR analysis was also used to derive differentiated analysis results for middle and lower words. The results of this study provide useful information to strengthen competitiveness in the field of metaverse fashion design.

  • In this paper, a new method of product function analysis is presented to categorize various design information generated in product development processes. In order to improve product functions, designers must understand unit functions and modified parts of products. The product function analysis (PFA) is based on the designer's understanding of product functions. The proposed PFA provides the methodology to classify the various functions systematically and understand the relation between functions easily. Using this approach, efficient design support system can be developed and used for designers to support decision-making with design knowledge.

  • The analysis of the floating offshore wind turbine platform is based on the procedures provided by the IEC including the International Classification Society, which recommends the analysis in the time domain. But time-domain simulation requires a lot of time and resources to solve tens of thousands of DLCs. This acts as a barrier in terms of floating structure development. For final verification, it requires very precise analysis in the time domain, but from an initial design point of view, a simplified verification procedure to predict the quantity of materials quickly and achieve relatively accurate results is crucial. In this study, a structural design procedure using a design wave applied in the oil and gas industries is presented combined with a conservative turbine load. With this method, a quick design spiral can be rotated, and it is possible to review FOWTs of various shapes and sizes. Consequently, a KRISO Semi-Submersible FOWT platform was developed using a simplified design procedure in frequency-domain analysis.

  • This study explores the integration of the generative AI, specifically ChatGPT (GPT-4o), into the field of structural analysis and design using the finite element method (FEM). The research is conducted in two main parts: structural analysis and structural design. For structural analysis, two scenarios are examined: one where the FEM source code is provided to ChatGPT and one where it is not. The AI's ability to understand, process, and accurately perform finite element analysis in both scenarios is evaluated. Additionally, the application of ChatGPT in structural design is investigated, including design modifications and parameter sensitivity analysis. The results demonstrate the potential of the generative AI to assist in complex engineering tasks, suggesting a future where AI significantly enhances efficiency and innovation in structural engineering. However, the study also highlights the importance of ensuring the accuracy and reliability of AI-generated results, particularly in safety-critical applications.

  • A rational and efficient seismic design methodology for irregular space steel frames using advanced methods of analysis in the framework of Eurocodes 8 and 3 is presented. This design methodology employs an advanced static or dynamic finite element method of analysis that takes into account geometrical and material non-linearities and member and frame imperfections. The inelastic static analysis (pushover) is employed with multimodal load along the height of the building combining the first few modes. The inelastic dynamic method in the time domain is employed with accelerograms taken from real earthquakes scaled so as to be compatible with the elastic design spectrum of Eurocode 8. The design procedure starts with assumed member sections, continues with the checking of the damage and ultimate limit states requirements, the serviceability requirements and ends with the adjustment of member sizes. Thus it can sufficiently capture the limit states of displacements, rotations, strength, stability and damage of the structure and its individual members so that separate member capacity checks through the interaction equations of Eurocode 3 or the usage of the conservative and crude q-factor suggested in Eurocode 8 are not required. Two numerical examples dealing with the seismic design of irregular space steel moment resisting frames are presented to illustrate the proposed method and demonstrate its advantages. The first considers a seven storey geometrically regular frame with in-plan eccentricities, while the second a six storey frame with a setback.

  • This paper investigates the structural analysis and design of mechanical heart valve through the numerical analysis methodology. In a numerical analysis methodology application to the thickness minimization structural design of mechanical heart valve, structural analysis is performed for the blood flow through a bileaflet mechanical heart valve. The structural static analysis is carried out to confirm the thickness minimization structural condition (minimum thickness shape of leaflet).
