Background : Many analgesics are used to relieve the pain of various causes. Among these, $Myprodol^{(R)}$, a combination analgesic with codeine, ibuprofen and paracetamol, was recently used as a new analgesics. This study was performed to survey the kinds of diseases, side effects and pain relief effect of $Myprodol^{(R)}$ in clincal practice. Methods : This retrograde study surveyed the medical records of 183 patients treated with $Myprodol^{(R)}$ at Pain Clinic, Pusan National University Hospital. From medical records, the disease entities, the pain characteristics, duration of $Myprodol^{(R)}$ medication, the analgesic effect and side effects were evaluated. Results : $Myprodol^{(R)}$ is used in the treatment of cancer pain (64.3%) and non-cancer pain (35.7%). Among side effects of $Myprodol^{(R)}$ medication, nausea with vomiting, constipation and generalized edema were common in cancer pain, but epigatric pain was common in non cancer pain. $Myprodol^{(R)}$ was more effective in non cancer pain than cancer pain. Conclusions: $Myprodol^{(R)}$ was used in cancer and non-cancer pain patients. In cancer pain patients, $Myprodol^{(R)}$ was effective in early cancer pain but, not effective in advanced cancer. $Myprodol^{(R)}$ was also used and effective in non-malignant benign chest pain, lumbago, post-operative pain.

Many types of drugs affect functions of tile gastrointestinal tract. Investigators may be interested in discovery or pharmacological characterization of drugs as therapeutic agents intended for treatment of gastrointestinal disorders or in identification of gastrointestinal side effects of drugs intended for non-gastrointestinal indications. Examples of drug categories often associated with significant gastrointestinal side effects include cardiovascular drugs, antibiotics (erythromycin in particular), anti-inflammatory drugs, antiemetics, analgesics (especially opiates), antihistamines, antidepressants, and antipsychotics. Whether tile objective is development of gastrointestinal therapeutic agents or evaluation of gastrointestinal side effects, appropriate laboratory models for experimentation are essential.

Boney metastasis may lead to terrible suffering from debilitating pain. The most likely malignancies that spread to bone are prostate, breast, and lung. Painful osseous metastases are typically associated with multiple episodes of breakthrough pain which may occur with activities of daily living, weight bearing, lifting, coughing, and sneezing. Almost half of these breakthrough pain episodes are rapid in onset and short in duration and 44% of episodes are unpredictable. Treatment strategies include: analgesic approaches with "triple opioid therapy", bisphosphonates, chemotherapeutic agents, hormonal therapy, interventional and surgical approaches, steroids, radiation (external beam radiation, radiopharmaceuticals), ablative techniques (radiofrequency ablation, cryoablation), and intrathecal analgesics.

Acanthopanax species (Araliaceae) traditionally has been used as analgesics, stimulant of immune system, and replenishment of body functions. Acanthopanax divaricatus var. albeofructus is indigenous plant to Korea. The antioxidant activities of compounds from A divaricatus var. albeofructus were determined by 1,1-diphenyl-2-picrylhydrazyl (DPPH) method and thiobarbituric acid reactive substance (TBARS) assay on human plasma low-density lipoprotein (LDL). The triterpenoid and lignan constituents from this plant showed antioxidant activities and the lignan, l-sesamin exhibited the most potent antioxidant activity in Cu$^{2+}$ -induced LDL oxidation.n.

A 18-month-old, 35.3 kg, intact male Cerman shepherd dog with a history of non-weight bearing lameness in the right hindlimb was referred to Veterinary Teaching Hospital, College of Veterinary Medicine, Kyungpook National University. On physical examination, pain response was elicited. Laboratory abnormalities were not present. Radiographic examination revealed areas of increased opacity in the medullary cavity and accentuation of trabecular patterns of the affected bone. This dog was treated with analgesics and lameness was resolved without pain.

Video thoracoscopic surgery is a new modality that gains acceptance rapidly from thoracic surgeons. We have experienced two left lower lobectomies, one left upper lobectomy & one right upper lobectomy with using video thoracoscopy for the four patients with lung parenchymal disease from July 1992 to February 1993. The post-operative courses were uneventful. The final pathologic diagnosis were sclerosing hemangioma, adenocarcinoma, bronchiectasis, leiomyoma & the post-operative courses were short. These patients needed less analgesics because postoperative pain was reduced markedly, and hospitalization was shortened due to rapid recovery. We would like to prefer video thoracoscopic lobectomy to the lobectomy through standard thoracotomy in uncomplicated patients with simple pulmonary parenchymal diseases.

A patient who showed atypical orofacial pain after an endodontic treatment for a long time, was treated with non-analgesics such as vitamin $B_1, B_2, $ and Oral Balance, moisturizing gel. 1. It is important to manage xerostomic condition properly in the treatment of patients who have atypical orofacial pain 2. Simultaneous administration of vitamin $B_1 and B_2$ was effective in increasing pain threshold of the patient.

Sufentanil, a potent anilidopiperidine analgesic, was synthesized from a simple thiophenylethylamine via six sequence.
