In this paper, the error rate performance of L-level amplitude shift keying (ASK), M-ary phase shift keying (PSK) and amplitude phase keying (APK) systems have been studied in the presence of interference and noise. Using the derived error probability equations, the error rate performance of each L-level ASK and M-ary PSK system has been evaluated in terms of carrier-to-noise power ratio (CNR), carrier-to-interferer power ratio (CIR), and envelope distribution of interferer. These results are combined and then the error rate performance of APK signal has been found. Finally, the error rate performance is compared and discussed.

A novel bidirectional magnetic wireless communication system is proposed in this study. This system provides the communication capability between the source and load sides by high-frequency signal while wireless power is transferred. Contrary to the conventional wireless communication systems using complex IC circuit and active components, the proposed system is simply composed of passive components. It is practical and beneficial for environmental robustness, cost effectiveness, and simple implementation. The detailed static analysis of the proposed system for power and communication lines is established. The proposed system is experimentally verified, and results show that a 0.1 voltage gain for communication line is obtained while a 2.0 voltage gain for the power line is achieved. The proposed system is adequate for practical applications as it allows the inductive power transfer system to wirelessly and easily communicate between the source and load sides.
A 4+12+16 amplitude phase shift keying (APSK) modulation outperforms other 32-APSK modulations in a nonlinear additive white Gaussian noise (AWGN) channel because of its intrinsic robustness against AM/AM and AM/PM distortions caused by the nonlinear characteristics of a high-power amplifier. Thus, this modulation scheme has been adopted in the digital video broadcasting-satellite2 European standard. And it has been considered for high rate transmission of telemetry data on deep space communications in consultative committee for space data systems which provides a forum for discussion of common problems in the development and operation of space data systems. In this paper, we present an improved bits-to-symbol mapping scheme with a better bit error rate for a 4+12+16 APSK signal in a nonlinear AWGN channel and propose a simple signal detection algorithm for the 4+12+16 APSK from the presented bit mapping.

In this paper, we propose an adaptive trellis-coded Multiple Quadrature Amplitude Modulation(ATCMQAM) applying MQAM as the modulation scheme in the conventional ATCMPSK (Adaptive trellis-Coded Multiple Phase Shift Keying) for slowly varying Rayleigh fading channels. The proposed system adaptively controls the coding rate combined with modulation level of pragmatic approach to trellis-coded modulation according to the instantaneous fading channel conditions, and employs MQAM as modulation scheme. Results by computer simulation show that the proposed adaptive model using MQAM can realize higher quality transmission with the improvement more than 0.5 ~ 1bit in average bit rate. And there is a coding gain of 2-5dB, depending on the high SNR value, compared with the conventional adaptive model employing MPSK.

In this paper, we report phase noise effects on SER(Symbol Error Rate) of MQAM(M-ary Quadrature Amplitude Modulation), DPSK(Differential Phase Shift Keying), OFDM(Orthogonal frequency Division Multiplex)-MQAM and OFDM-DPSK. SER of each modulation method has been quantified at the various offset frequencies of the local oscillator and compared with phase noise effects with the ideal cases, which have no phase noise, through the MATLAB simulation. And the ratio of modulation bandwidths to the SERs at the various frequency offsets for the above modulation methods have been analyzed for the system requirement of minimum phase noise characteristics.

This paper proposes an approximated soft decision demapping algorithm with low computational complexity for coded 4+12+16 amplitude phase shift keying (APSK) in an additive white Gaussian noise (AWGN) channel. To derive the proposed algorithm, we approximate the decision boundaries for 4+12+16 APSK symbols, and then decide the log likelihood ratio (LLR) value for each bit from the approximated decision boundaries. Although the proposed algorithm shows about 0.6~1.1dB degradation on the error performance compared with the conventional max-log algorithm, it gives a significant result in terms of the computational complexity.

In this paper, a new trellis-coded differential unitary space-time modulation (TC-DUSTM) scheme based on amplitude/phase-shift-keying (APSK) signals is proposed. In particular, the design criterion of the trellis coding is proposed to combine the trellis coding and DUSTM scheme based on APSK constellation. From the computer simulations, we verify the superiority of the proposed TC-DUSTM based on APSK signals at the higher transmission rate. In addition, the proposed scheme can suppress the irreducible error of the differential scheme.

The analog front end (AFE) of a radio frequency identification transponder using the ISO 14443 type A standard with a 100% amplitude shift keying (ASK) modulation is proposed in this paper and verified by circuit simulations and measurements. This AFE circuit, using a 13.56 MHz carrier frequency, consists of a rectifier, a modulator, a demodulator, a regulator, a power on reset, and a dynamically enabled digital phase locked loop (DPLL). The DPLL, with a charge pump enable circuit, was used to recover the clock of a 100% modulated ASK signal during the pause period. A high voltage lateral double diffused metal-oxide semiconductor transistor was used to protect the rectifier and the clock recovery circuit from high voltages. The proposed AFE was fabricated using the $0.18\;{\mu}m$ standard CMOS process, with an AFE core size of $350\;{\mu}m\;{\times}\;230\;{\mu}m$. The measurement results show that the DPLL, using a demodulator output signal, generates a constant 1.695 MHz clock during the pause period of the 100% ASK signal.
TCM(Trellis Coded Modulation) has soft decision scheme so that BM(Branch Metric) calculates the ED(Euclidean Distance) between the received signal and each code words in signal space. For computing the ED, square and square root computations increase the hardware complexity. Some simplified method is known for convolutional codes with QPSK(Quadrature Phase Shift Keying), PSK(Phase Shift Keying) modulation. But it is not acceptable for QAM (Quadrature Amplitude Modulation)-TCM scheme. In this paper, we suggest that two modified BM computation methods, which is applicable for QAM-TCM. By comparative study, we also assessed two proposed method in the case of hardware complexity and BER (Bit Error Rate) performance.
현재 국내에서 ITS(Intelligent Transport Systems) 통신방식으로 이 용되고 있는 DSRC 방식은 TTA(한국정보통신기술협회)의 기술표준으로서 대전시,전주시에 적용되어 BIS(Bus Information Service)에 이용되고 있고,최근 고속도로 ETCS(Electronic Toll Collection System)가 DSRC방식으로 전국고속도로 Tollgate 에서 2007년 연말에 개통될 예정이다. DSRC 방식은 2000년에 TTA(한국정보통신기술협회)에서 기술표준이 제정되어 현재 1Mbps 의 Data 용량을 가진다. DSRC 방식의 물리링크 변조방식은 ASK(Amplitude Shift Keying)로 ITS 확장 서비스 적용을 위해 변조방식을 QPSK(Quadrature Phase Shift Keying )로 개선하게 되면 이론적으로 4배의 Data Rate 향상이 이루어진다. 물리적인 RF 변조방식을 ASK에서 QPSK로 바꿔 간단히 Data Rate을 개선하게 되면 회로구현의 경제성이 향상되어 DSRC 응용 서비스가 활성화 될 것이다.
