In this work, we describe the synthesis and infrared light reflecting characteristics of $TiO_2$/mica hybrid composites. $TiO_2$/mica composite materials were obtained by the hydrolysis and condensation reaction of titanium isopropoxide in an aqueous solution of acetic acid in the presence of mica particles. Amorphous phase of $TiO_2$ on the surface of mica was converted to the crystalline rutile phase via anatase phase by heat treatment ($600-1000^{\circ}C$, 1-3 h) of $TiO_2$/mica composite materials, and the size of crystals was controlled by heat treatment conditions. Physicochemical properties of mica and $TiO_2$/mica composites were investigated using FE-SEM, ED-XRF, and PXRD. The solar reflectance of $TiO_2$/mica composites in the near IR region (780~2,500 nm) measured using a diffuse reflectance NIR spectrophotometer was 88.6%, which is rather higher than that of calcined pure mica (86.6%). Therefore, $TiO_2$/mica composites can be used as NIR light reflective pigments.
In order to investigate effects if loess on the mycellial pellet formation a phosphate-solubilizing fungus. Aspergillus sp. PS-104 was cultured in potato dextrose broth containing loess. The strain formed an amorphous pellet or loose aggregates agitated at a low speed (50 rpm) while spherical and regular pellets at a high speed (150 rpm) The higher concentration of loess was added, the smaller size of a pellet was formed during the submerged culture of the strain. As shown in results, being cultured in the PDB medium supplemented with 1.0% loess the pellet size was maximally reduced to a fourth compared to the control. Evaluating the addition effect of several components of loess such as $SiO_2$, $Fe_2O_3$, $Al_2O_3$, $CaCO_3$, $CaSO_4$ and $MgCO_3$ on the reduction of mycellial pellet size the higher concentration was supplied, the smaller size of pellet was formed except $Al_2O_3$. And the smallest pellet size was recorded at the concentration of 1.0% (W/V) magnesium carbonate.

King George island, Antarctica, is mostly covered by ice sheet and glaciers, but the land area is focally exposed for several thousand years after deglaciation. For a mineralogical study of chemical weathering in the polar environment, glacial debris was sampled at the well-developed patterned ground which was formed by long periglaclal process. As fresh equivalents, recently exposed tills were sampled at the base of ice cliff of outlet glaciers and at the melting margin of ice cap together with fresh bedrock samples. Fresh tills are mostly composed of quartz, plagioclase, chlorite, and illite, but those derived from hydrothermal alteration zone contain smectite and illite-smectite. In bedrocks, chlorite was the major clay minerals in most samples with minor illite near hydrothermal alteration zone and interstratified chlorite-smectite in some samples. Smectite closely associated with eolian volcanic glass was assigned to alteration in their source region. Blocks with rough surface due to chemical disintegration showed weathering rinds of several millimeter thick. Comparision between inner fresh and outer altered zones did not show notable change in clay mineralogy except dissolution of calcite and some plagioclase. Most significant weathering was observed in the biotite flakes, eolian volcanic glass, sulfides, and carbonates in the debris. Biotite flakes derived from granodiorite were altered to hydrobiotite and vermiculite of yellow brown color. Minor epitactic kaolinite and gibbsite were formed in the cleaved flakes of weathered biotite. Pyrite was replaced by iron oxides. Calcite was congruently dissolved. Volcanic glass of basaltic andesite composition showed alteration rim of several micrometer thick or completely dissolved leaving mesh of plagioclase laths. In the alteration rim, Si, Na, Mg, and Ca were depleted, whereas Al, Ti, and Fe were relatively enriched. Mineralization of lichen and moss debris is of much interest. They are rich of A3 and Si roughly in the ratio of 2:1 to 3:1 typical of allophane. In some case, Fe and Ti are enriched in addition to Al and Si. Transmission electron microscopy of the samples rich of volcanic glass showed abundant amorphous aluminosilicates, which are interpreted as allophane. Chemical weathering in the King George Island is dominated by the leaching of primary phyllosilicates, carbonates, eolian volcanic glass, and minor sulfides. Authigenesls of clay minerals is less active. Absence of a positive evidence of significant authigenic smectite formation suggests that its contribution to the clay mineralogy of marine sediments are doubtful even near the maritime Antarctica undergoing a more rapid and intenser chemical weathering under more humid and milder climate.

This study investigated the mineralogical characteristics of lime mortars used in pointing of Namhansanseon Yeojang from Joseon dynasty. Polarization microscopy revealed quartz, feldspar, mica, pyroxene and opaque minerals in the lime mortars. XRD analysis also confirmed clay minerals chlorite and kaolin. As a result of particle size analysis of lime mortars, the particle size distribution was wide and size was not uniform. 60% of samples were corresponded to the sand area. The chemical components detected from XRF analysis, 8.71-11.18 % of Ca as the main component of lime and $SiO_2$, $Al_2O_3$, and $Fe_2O_3$ in soil minerals were main components. The lime mortars showed an endothermic peak due to decarbonization reaction of $CaCO_3$ at $750^{\circ}C$ and weight reduction rate of 10%. The microstructures were agglomerated amorphous and observed rhombohedral calcite crystals by scanning electron microscope. It is considered that the pointing of Yeojang is a mortar mixed with lime and soil. In addition the Hanbongseong Yeojang was constructed using the same materials and construction technique because the minerals composition is not different according to the Yeojang location and use.
In this study, materials and color formation techniques were assessed for black potteries excavated from the Janghyeon-dong, Jungsan-dong and Gyodong-ri sites during the Proto-Three Kingdoms period in Ulsan, Korea. Although the black potteries were black superficially, the inner cores were either black or reddish yellow. Microscopy analysis identified that body clay was used for reddish iron oxide rich soils with quartz, alkali feldspar and mica, along with grains of myrmechite texture. Additionally, as marginal differences exist in the contents of SiO2, Fe2O3 and CaO, the composition of the host rock and clay distributed around the sites was affected. Thus, we can deduce that pottery was made by soiling at a short distance. Raman spectroscopy results revealed that the black layer of the black pottery was used as amorphous combustion carbon. In addition, as a transparent layer of brown lacquer was observed on the substrate that was in contact with the surface layer, the black layer of the pottery induced black color development by a combination of combustion carbon and lacquer. Based on the mineral composition and microtexture of the body clay, the firing temperature of the potteries seemed to range from 750 to 850℃, whereas the lacquer layer was pyrolyzed at 468℃ by thermal analysis. Therefore, a combined layer of combustion carbon and lacquer, which formed the black color, was painted after the body clay was fired.
In this work, the $Ta_2O_5$ thin films were deposited on Pt/n-Si substrate by reactive magnetron sputtering and the RTA treatment at temperatures range from 650 to $750^{\circ}C$ in $O_2$ and vacuum. X-ray diffraction analysis, FE SEM, dielectric properties and leakage current density have been used to study the structural and electrical properties of the $Ta_2O_5$ thin films. XRD result showed that as- deposited films were amorphous and the annealed films crystallized (<$700^{\circ}C$) into ${\beta}-Ta_2O_5$. The crystallinity increased with temperature in terms of an increase in the intensity of the diffracted peaks(${\beta}-Ta_2O_5$) and annealing in oxygen reduced defect dang1ing Ta-O bonds. As deposited $Ta_2O_5$ films show the leakage current density $10^{-7}$ to $10^{-8}$ (A/$cm^2)$ at low electric fields (<200 kV/cm) However, it was found leakage current density of $Ta_2O_5$ thin films decreased with $O_2$ ambient annealing. The dielectric constant of the as deposited $Ta_2O_5$ thin films was ${\varepsilon}_r$$9{\sim}11$ but the dielectric constant was increased after RTA treatment in $O_2$ ambient more then in vacuum.

The most important part of the fabrication solar cells is the anti-reflection coating when excludes the kinds of silicon substrates (crystalline, polycrystalline, or amorphous), patterns and materials of electrodes. Anti-reflection coatings reduce the reflection of sunlight and at last increase the intensity of radiation to inside of solar cells. So, we can obtain increase of solar cell efficiency about 10% using anti-reflection coating. There are many kinds of anti-reflection film for solar cell, such as SiN, $SiO_2$, a-Si, and so on. And, they have two functions, anti-reflection and passivation. However such materials could not perfectly prevent reflection. So, in this work, we investigated the anti-reflection coating with the columnar structure ZnO thin film. We synthesized columnar structure ZnO film on glass substrates. The ZnO films were synthesized using a RF magnetron sputtering system with a pure (99.95%) ZnO target at room temperature. The anti-reflection coating layer was sputtered by argon and oxygen gases. The angle of target and substrate measures 0, 20, 40, 60 degrees, the working pressure 10 mtorr and the 250 W of RF power during 40 minutes. The confirm the growth mechanism of ZnO on columnar structure, the anti-reflection coating layer was observed by field emission scanning electron microscopy (FE-SEM). The optical trends were observed by UV-vis and Elleso meter.

Phase-change random access memory (PRAM) chip cell phase of amorphous state is rapidly changed to crystal state above 160 Celsius degree within several seconds during Infrared (IR) reflow. Thus, on-board programming method is considered for PRAM chip programming. We demonstrated the functional 512Mb PRAM with 90nm technology using several novel core circuits, such as metal-2 line based global row decoding scheme, PN-diode cells based BL discharge (BLDIS) scheme, and PMOS switch based column decoding scheme. The reverse-state standby current of each PRAM cell is near 10 pA range. The total leak current of 512Mb PRAM chip in standby mode on discharging state can be more than 5 mA. Thus in the proposed BLDIS control, all bitlines (BLs) are in floating state in standby mode, then in active mode, the activated BLs are discharged to low level in the early timing of the active period by the short pulse BLDIS control timing operation. In the conventional sense amplifier, the simultaneous switching activation timing operation invokes the large coupling noise between the VSAREF node and the inner amplification nodes of the sense amplifiers. The coupling noise at VSAREF degrades the sensing voltage margin of the conventional sense amplifier. The merit of the proposed sense amplifier is almost removing the coupling noise at VSAREF from sharing with other sense amplifiers.

A diamond-like carbon (DLC) film deposited on a WC disk was investigated to improve disk wear resistance for injection molding of zirconia optical ferrule. The deposition of DLC films was performed using the filtered vacuum arc ion plating (FV-AIP) system with a graphite target. The coating processing was controlled with different deposition times and the other conditions for coating, such as input power, working pressure, substrate temperature, gas flow, and bias voltage, were fixed. The coating layers of DLC were characterized using FE-SEM, AFM, and Raman spectrometry; the mechanical properties were investigated with a scratch tester and a nano-indenter. The friction coefficient of the DLC coated on the WC was obtained using a pin-on-disk, according to the ASTM G163-99. The thickness of DLC films coated for 20 min. and 60 min. was about 750 nm and 300 nm, respectively. The surface roughness of DLC films coated for 60 min. was 5.9 nm. The Raman spectrum revealed that the G peak of DLC film was composed of $sp^3$ amorphous carbon bonds. The critical load (Lc) of DLC film obtained with the scratch tester was 14.6 N. The hardness and elastic modulus of DLC measured with the nano-indenter were 36.9 GPa and 585.5 GPa, respectively. The friction coefficient of DLC coated on WC decreased from 0.2 to 0.01. The wear property of DLC coated on WC was enhanced by a factor of 20.

The inhibitory substance on the growth of mung bean seedling was amorphous crystal that had a single spot on silica gel thin layer chromatography under ultra-violet irradiation in dark room. The Rf value was 0.85 in n-butanol-acetic acid-formic acid-water(15 : 12 : 3 : 10) system, and 0.92 in n-butanol-acetic acid-water(4 : 1 : 5) system, respectively. Biochemical reaction of the inhibitor was negative to $FeCl_3$, pyrimidine, ninhydrine, folin, fehling, Salkowski and Ehrlich reaction, but the inhibitor had a blue fluorescence from irradiation of ultra-violet rays and had maximum absorption at 252nm on UV spectrum. On IR spectrum, the Peaks of the inhibitor appeared at $3300{\sim}3500,\;2900{\sim}3000,\;1600{\sim}1700,\;and\;1400cm^{(-1)}$. The strain tested was identified to be similar Streptomyces iuteogriseus by morphorogical and physiological characteristics.
