  • Developing efficient and reliable energy storage system is as important as exploring new energy resources. Energy storage system can balance the periodic and quantitative mismatch between energy supply and energy demand and increase the energy efficiency. Industrial waster heat and renewable energy such as solar energy can be stored by the thermal energy storage (TES) system at high and low temperatures. TES system using underground rock carven is considered as an attractive alternative for large-scale storage, because of low thermal conductivity and chemical safety of surrounding rock mass. In this report, the development of available thermal energy storage methods and the characteristics of storage media were introduced. Based on some successful applications of cavern storage and high-temperature storage reported in the literature, the applicabilities and practicabilities of storage media and technologies for large-scale cavern thermal energy storage (CTES) were reviewed.

  • T Recently, the government has been promoting the expansion and supply of renewable energy as an alternative for achieving carbon neutrality and the nationally determined contributions by 2030. In 2020, the Ministries of Industry and Environment and the Korea Forest Service collaborated to build a nationwide onshore wind energy siting atlas considering wind resources and forestry and environmental regulations focused on central regulations. In this study, the ordinances of the local governments were analyzed to examine the effects of regional location regulations on the expansion of onshore wind power energy generation facilities, in addition to those of central regulations. A development permit standard survey of 226 urban plan ordinances of the local governments nationwide showed that presently in 2022, 52 municipalities are applying regulations on wind energy generation facilities by ordinances. This is twice more than that in 2018, when renewable energy power generation facility development was difficult. Additionally, the location regulations applied by these ordinances were organized by items and regions, and regulatory characteristics, such as the number and scope, were analyzed by regions. To analyze the spatial distribution characteristics, JeollaNamdo was selected as the case area. A spatial DB was established for regulated areas based on the regional and central regulations, and the spatial distribution characteristics and the regulatory scope were compared and analyzed.

  • The study of coking technology to upgrade oil sand bitumen which is considered as alternative fuel was performed by using thermogravity analyzer and delayed coking reactor(600ml). To analyzed and compared coking characteristics of oil sand bitumen, the reactivities of oil sand bitumen were measured in the TGA. At the temperature conditions of $400{\sim}550^{\circ}C$ and the temperature rising velocity of $50^{\circ}C/min$. the termination time of coking reaction and conversion efficiencies increased with an increase of bed temperature. However the increase rate decreased over $450^{\circ}C$. So the coking reaction with oil sand bitumen might be over $450^{\circ}C$. Also the termination time decreased with increasing the temperature rising velocity. But the content of coke increased with increasing temperature rising velocity. At the experiments in the delayed coker, the temperature condition at maximum oil yield was $475^{\circ}C$ and the fuel properties of oil from coking reaction was almost equal with conventional diesel. It was verified that the coking process might be useful process to upgrade the oil sand bitumem by using API and SIMDAS.

  • As an alternative strategy in the era of high level petroleum cost, the study focused to suggest the way on the revitalization of renewable energy through the impact on introduction effect of renewable energy in green village. Total feasible solar energy production is 6.73 GWh/yr along with the biomass energy producing electric power energy is 134.06 GWh/yr, the two category's total electric power energy is 233.19 GWh/yr, which is possible to achieve the selfsufficiency of energy by 33% for total energy consumption of 705.80 GWh/yr in the region. The calculated feasibility on the carbon dioxide reduction, carbon dioxide reduction level is 1,891 ton_$CO_2$ by agricultural byproducts, 43,635 ton_$CO_2$ by livestock waste, 395 ton_$CO_2$ by municipal waste, 50,324 ton_$CO_2$ by forest byproducts, the total biomass shows 96,245 ton_$CO_2$, while the carbon dioxide reduction of solar light energy is 2,251 ton_$CO_2$, 1,383.3 ton_$CO_2$ by solar heat energy, the total solar energy shows 3,634 ton_$CO_2$. So total carbon dioxide reduction effect shows 99,879 ton_$CO_2$.

  • Remanufacturing is one alternative to conserve the good environment of our earth and to save the production resources and manufacturing energy. To make active remanufacturing in Korea we have to prepare basic rules to support the collaboration among the original manufacturing, remanufacturing, and repairing companies. Basic rules for active remanufacturing can be established by the analysis of recently environments of remanufacturing procedures and the relationship among the main constituents.

  • In this study aims to provide operational guidelines based on risk assessment and safety evaluation in the operation of non-traditional oil production plants, serving as alternative resources in comparison to conventional oils within the construction sector. Presently, operational facilities within these plants are active. However, integrating comprehensive management through sectional and device-specific diagnostic and evaluation systems in similar platform-based operational management systems proves to be a challenging reality. Consequently, this research introduces an evaluation methodology tailored for an operation-centric management system using an integrated management approach, and evaluates its practical applicability within the construction field.

  • As the needs for alternative energy and renewable energy increase, there has been a lot of investment in developing wind energy, which does not cause air pollution nor the greenhouse gas effect. Wind energy is an environment friendly energy that is unlimited in its resources and is possible to be produced wherever the wind blows. However, since wind energy heavily relies on wind that has unreliable characteristics, it may be difficult to have efficient energy transmissions. For this reason, an important factor in wind energy forecasting is the estimation of available wind power. In this study, Gunsan wind farm data was used to compare ARMA model to neural network model to analyze for more accurate prediction of wind power generation. As a result, the neural network model was better than the ARMA model in the accuracy of the wind power predictions.

In recent years, the technology of fuel cell vehicles has made rapid progress, Hyundai Motor Company (HMC) reached to mass production of the Tucson ix hydrogen fuel cell vehicles first in the world. In addition, HMC is accelerating the development of hydrogen fuel cell buses, which have a number of advantages for hydrogen infrastructure and mass transport personnel. In this study, we examined potential of the commercialization through the demonstration of hydrogen fuel cell buses. As a result, we identified that the mass-production possibility of FCB has high potential and HMC's technology will lead to fuel cell bus industry.

  • In this new energy economy era, the importance of renewable energy resource needs to be highly addressed, as the demand of energy dramatically increases and fossil fuel is being exhausted. Lignocellulosic biomass is considered as the sustainable and renewable feedstock to produce biochemicals and biofuels that are the alternative for petroleum derived products. Furfural is a natural precursor for the range of furan based chemicals and solvents such as methylfuran, tetrahydrofuran, methyltetrahydrofuran, ethyltetrahydrofuryl ether, ethyl levulinate, levulinic acid, and alkanes. Thus, furfural should be a renewable platform chemical for biochemicals and renewable biofuels. In this paper, the concept of biorefinery, furfural production and its applications are briefly reviewed.
