To regulate the safety protocols in nuclear facilities, radioactive aerosols have been extensively researched to understand their health impacts. However, most measured particle-size distributions remain at low resolutions, with the particle sizes ranging from nanometer to micrometer. This study combines the high-resolution detection of 500 size classes, ranging from 6 nm to 10 ㎛, for aerodynamic diameter distributions, with a regional lung deposition calculation. We applied the new approach to characterize particle-size distributions of aerosols generated during the plasma arc cutting of simulated non-radioactive steel alloy wastes. The high-resolution measured data were used to calculate the deposition ratios of the aerosols in different lung regions. The deposition ratios in the alveolar sacs contained the dominant particle sizes ranging from 0.01 to 0.1 ㎛. We determined the distribution of various metals using different vapor pressures of the alloying components and analyzed the uncertainties of lung deposition calculations using the low-resolution aerodynamic diameter data simultaneously. In high-resolution data, the changes in aerosols that can penetrate the blood system were better captured, correcting their potential risks by a maximum of 42%. The combined calculations can aid the enhancement of high-resolution measuring equipment to effectively manage radiation safety in nuclear facilities.

In the present study, we show that the addition of Ag, an element having a positive enthalpy of mixing with Cu in the liquid state, enables the simultaneous enhancement of the glass forming ability and the plasticity in Cu-Zr-Ag bulk metallic glasses (BMGs). Rods of 4 mm diameter could be prepared with a fully amorphous structure and values of plastic strain up to 18% were measured under a compression mode for compositions around $Cu_{42.5}Zr_{47.5}Ag_{10}$. The possible role of Ag in the change of the atomic structure and the enhancement of the plastic strain in the ternary Cu-Zr-Ag BMGs is discussed based on analyses from transmission electron microscopy and EXAFS (extended X-ray absorption fine structure).

In order to optimize the solution treatment conditions of Al-7Si-(0.3~0.5)Mg-(0~0.5)Cu alloys, a series of heat treatment experiments were conducted under various solution treatment times up to 7 hours at 545℃, followed by a microstructural analysis using optical microscopy, FE-SEM, and Brinell hardness measurements. Rapid coarsening of eutectic Si particles was observed in the alloys during the first 3 hours of solution treatment but the size of those Si particles did not change at longer solution treatment conditions. Meanwhile, the degree of spheroidisation of eutectic Si particles increased until the solution treatment time was increased up to 7 hours. Q-Al5Cu2Mg8Si6 andθ-Al2Cu were observed in as-cast Cu-containing Al alloys but the intermetallic compounds were dissolved completely after 3 hours of solution treatment at 545℃. Depending on the initial Mg composition of the Al alloys, π-Al8FeMg3Si either disappeared in the alloy with 0.3wt% of Mg content after 5 hours of solution treatment or remained in the alloy with 0.5wt% of Mg content after 7 hours of solution treatment time. Mg and Cu content in the primary-α phase of the Al alloys increased until the solution treatment time reached 5 hours, which was in accordance with the dissolution behavior of Mg or Cu-containing intermetallic compounds with respect to the solution treatment time. From the results of microstructural changes in the Al-7Si-Mg-Cu alloys during solution treatment, it was concluded that at least 5 hours of solution treatment at 545℃ is required to maximize the age hardening effect of the present Al alloys. The same optimal solution treatment conditions could also be derived from Brinell hardness values of the present Al-7Si-Mg-Cu alloys measured at different solution treatment conditions.
To obtain the fundamental information on the dissolution of nickel into the slag in the pyrometallurgical processes for treatment of wasted PCB, the distribution ratios of nickel between CaO-$SiO_2-Al_2O_3$-MgO slag and copper-5 wt%Ni alloy were measured at 1623 K to 1823 K under a controlled $CO_2$-CO atmosphere. The distribution ratio of Ni increased linearly with increasing oxygen partial pressure. Therefore, the dissolution reaction of nickel into the slags could be described by the following equation; $$Ni(l)_{metal}+\frac{1}{2}O_2(g)NiO(l)_{slag}$$ The distribution ratio of Ni increased linearly with increasing content of basic oxides(CaO and MgO) in slag. However, the distribution ratio of Ni decreased linearly with increasing temperature. From these results, the empirical equation of distribution ratio of Ni was obtained by the following equation from the analysis of experimental conditions by multiple regression. $${\log}L_{Ni}=0.4000{\log}P_{O2}-5.1{\times}10^{-4}T+0.3375\(\frac{X_{CaO}+X_{MgO}}{X_{SiO2}}\)$$
The amorphization process and the thermal properties of amorphous Ti$_{40}$Cu$_{40}$Ni$_{10}$Al$_{10}$ powder during milling by mechanical alloying were examined by X-ray diffractometry (XRD), differential scanning calorimetry (DSC), and transmission electron microscopy (TEM). The chemical composition of the samples was examined by an energy dispersive X-ray spectrometry (EDX) facility attached to the scanning electron microscope (SEM). The as-milled powders showed a broad peak (2$\theta$ = 42.4$^{\circ}$) with crystalline size of about 5.0 nm in the XRD patterns. The entire milling process could be divided into three different stages: agglomeration (0 < t$_m$$\leq$ 3 h), disintegration (3 h < t$_m$$\leq$ 20 h), and homogenization (20 h < t$_m$$\leq$ 40 h) (t$_m$: milling time). In the DSC experiment, the peak temperature T$_p$ and crystallization temperature T$_x$ were 466.9$^{\circ}C$ and 444.3$^{\circ}C$, respectively, and the values of T$_p$, and T$_x$ increased with a heating rate (HR). The activation energies of crystallization for the as-milled powder was 291.5 kJ/mol for T$_p$.
Statement of problem: Implant screw loosening has been remained problem in restorative practices. Surface treatment of screw plays a role of preventing screw from loosening in implant screw mechanism. Purpose : The purpose of this study was to investigate surface characteristics of TiN and ZrN film ion plated screw with titanium and gold alloy screw and to evaluate wear resistance, surface roughness, and film adhesion on screw surface using various instruments. Material and methods : GoldTite screws and titanium screws provided by 3i (Implant Innovation, USA) and TorqTite screws or titanium screws by Steri-Oss (Nobel Biocare, USA) and gold screws and titanium screws by AVANA (Osstem Implant, korea) were selected. Ion plating which is much superior to other surface modification techniques was carried out for gold screws and titanium screws using Ti and Zr coating materials with nitrogen gas. Ion nitrided surface of each abutment screw was observed with field emission scanning electron microscopy (FE-SEM, micro-diamond scratch tester, vickers hardness tester, and surface roughness tester. Results : 1) The surface of gold screw and GoldTite is more smooth than ones of other kinds of non coated screw. 2) The ZrN and TiN coated surface is the more smooth than ones of other kinds of screw. 3) The hardness of TiN and ZrN coated surface showed higher than that of non coated surface. 4) The TiN coated titanium screw and ZrN coated gold screw have a good wear resistance and adhesion on the surface. 5) The surface of ZrN coated screw showed low surface roughness compared with the surface of TiN coated screw. Conclusion : It is considered that the TiN and ZrN coated screw which would prevent a screw from loosening can be applicable to implant system and confirmed that TiN and ZrN film act as lubricant on surface of screw due to decrease of friction for recycled tightening and loosening.
The oxidation behaviors of Y-Cr bilayer deposited on ferritic steel by magnetron-sputtering for application of the Fe-Cr alloys as interconnectors of planar-type solid oxide fuel cells (SOFCs) were studied. After oxidation at $800^{\circ}C$ for 40 hours, the major phase of $Y_2$$O_3$and the minor phase of $YCrO_3$, $Mn_{1.5}$$Cr_{1.5}$$O_4$and Cr$_2$SiO$_4$were formed in the Y/Cr bilayered samples, while the major phase of Cr$_2$O$_3$and the minor phase of $Y_2$$O_3$were formed as the major phase in the Cr/Y bilayered samples. The Log(ASR/T) that expresses electric resistance of the Y/Cr coated specimen with nonconducting $_Y2$$O_3$oxide showed high value of -2.80 Ω$\textrm{cm}^2$$K^{-1}$ / and that of the Cr/Y coated specimen with conducting $Cr_2$$O_3$oxide appeared to be -4.11 Ω$\textrm{cm}^2$$^{K}$ . The electric resistance of the Y/Cr coated specimen was largely increased due to the formation of high resistance oxide scales. However, the Cr/Y coated specimen did not show any increase in the electric resistance and had the long-term stability of oxidation because there was no formation of the secondary phases with low conductivity.
The porous metals are known as relatively excellent characteristic such as large surface area, light, lower heat capacity, high toughness and permeability. The Fe-Cr-Al alloys have high corrosion resistance, heat resistance and chemical stability for high temperature applications. And then many researches are developed the Fe-Cr-Al porous metals for exhaust gas filter, hydrogen reformer catalyst support and chemical filter. In this study, the Fe-Cr-Al porous metals are developed with Fe-22Cr-6Al(wt) powder using powder compaction method. The mean size of Fe-22Cr-6Al(wt) powders is about $42.69{\mu}m$. In order to control pore size and porosity, Fe-Cr-Al powders are sintered at $1200{\sim}1450^{\circ}C$ and different sintering maintenance as 1~4 hours. The powders are pressed on disk shapes of 3 mm thickness using uniaxial press machine and sintered in high vacuum condition. The pore properties are evaluated using capillary flow porometer. As sintering temperature increased, relative density is increased from 73% to 96% and porosity, pore size are decreased from 27 to 3.3%, from 3.1 to $1.8{\mu}m$ respectively. When the sintering time is increased, the relative density is also increased from 76.5% to 84.7% and porosity, pore size are decreased from 23.5% to 15.3%, from 2.7 to $2.08{\mu}m$ respectively.

We fabricated cube-textured Ni and Ni-W alloy substrates for coated conductors and characterized the effects of W addition on microstructure, mechanical strength, and magnetic properties of the substrate. Pure Ni and Ni-(2, 3, 5at.%)W alloys were prepared by plasma arc melting, heavily cold rolled and then annealed at various temperatures of $600-1300^{\circ}C$. The texture was evaluated by pole-figure and orientation distribution function (ODF) analysis. Mechanical properties were investigated by micro Vickers hardness and tension test. Ferromagnetism of the substrate was measured by physical property measurement system (PPMS). It was observed that Ni-W substrates had sharp cube texture, and the full-width at half-maximums (FWHMs) of in-plane texture was $^{\circ}$-5.57$4.42^{\circ}$, which is better than that of pure Ni substrate. In addition cube texture of Ni-W substrates was retained at higher temperature up to $1300^{\circ}C$. Microstructural observation showed that the Ni-W substrates had fine grain size and higher mechanical properties than the pure Ni substrate. These improvements are probably due to strengthening mechanisms such as solid solution hardening and/or grain size strengthening. PPMS analysis showed that addition of W effectively reduced saturation magnetization in applied magnetic field and Curie temperature.
The mechanical behavior and microstructural evolution during high temperature tensile deformation of recrystallized Ni3Al polycrystals doped with boron were investigated as functions of initial grain size, tensile strain rate and temperature. In order to obtain more precise information on the deformation mechanism, tensile specimens were rapidly quenched immediately after deformation at a cooling rate of more than $2000Ks^{-1}$, and were then observed by transmission electron microscopy (TEM). Mechanical tests in the range of 923 K to 1012 K were carried out in a vacuum of less than $3{\times}10^{-4}$ Pa using an Instron-type machine with various but constant cross head speeds corresponding to the initial strain rates from $1.0{\times}10^{-4}$ to $3.1{\times}10^{-5}s^{-1}$. After heating to deformation temperature, the specimen was kept for more than 1.8 ks before testing. The following results were obtained: (1) Flow behavior was affected by initial strain size; with decreasing initial grain size, the level of a stress peak in the true stress-true strain curve decreased, the steady state region was enlarged and elongation increased. (2) On the basis of TEM observation of rapidly quenched specimens, it was confirmed that dynamic recrystallization certainly occurred on deformation of fine-grained ($3.3{\mu}m$) and intermediate-grained ($5.0{\mu}m$) specimens at an initial strain rate of $3.1{\times}10^{-5}s^{-1}$ and at 973 K. (3) There were some dislocation-free grains among the new recrystallized grains. The obtained results suggest that both dynamic recrystallization and grain boundary sliding are operative during high temperature deformation.
