New incremental learning algorithm using extended data expression, based on probabilistic compounding, is presented in this paper. Incremental learning algorithm generates an ensemble of weak classifiers and compounds these classifiers to a strong classifier, using a weighted majority voting, to improve classification performance. We introduce new probabilistic weighted majority voting founded on extended data expression. In this case class distribution of the output is used to compound classifiers. UChoo, a decision tree classifier for extended data expression, is used as a base classifier, as it allows obtaining extended output expression that defines class distribution of the output. Extended data expression and UChoo classifier are powerful techniques in classification and rule refinement problem. In this paper extended data expression is applied to obtain probabilistic results with probabilistic majority voting. To show performance advantages, new algorithm is compared with Learn++, an incremental ensemble-based algorithm.
Aiming to solve the problems of high memory access and big storage space and long matching time in the regular expression matching of extended finite automaton (XFA), a new regular expression matching algorithm based on high-efficient finite automaton is presented in this paper. The basic idea of the new algorithm is that some extra judging instruments are added at the starting state in order to reduce any unnecessary transition paths as well as to eliminate any unnecessary state transitions. Consequently, the problems of high memory access consumption and big storage space and long matching time during the regular expression matching process of XFA can be efficiently improved. The simulation results convey that our proposed scheme can lower approximately 40% memory access, save about 45% storage space consumption, and reduce about 12% matching time during the same regular expression matching process compared with XFA, but without degrading the matching quality.

Human facial expression shows human's emotion most exactly, so it can be used as the most efficient tool for delivering human's intention to computer. For fast and exact recognition of human's facial expression on a 2D image, this paper proposes a new method which integrates an Discrete Adaboost classification algorithm and a neural network based recognition algorithm. In the first step, Adaboost algorithm finds the position and size of a face in the input image. Second, input detected face image into 5 Adaboost strong classifiers which have been trained for each facial expressions. Finally, neural network based recognition algorithm which has been trained with the outputs of Adaboost strong classifiers determines final facial expression result. The proposed algorithm guarantees the realtime and enhanced accuracy by utilizing fastness and accuracy of Adaboost classification algorithm and reliability of neural network based recognition algorithm. In this paper, the proposed algorithm recognizes five facial expressions such as neutral, happiness, sadness, anger and surprise and achieves 86~95% of accuracy depending on the expression types in real time.

A simple and general bit log-likelihood ratio (LLR) expression is provided for Gray-coded rectangular quadrature amplitude modulation (R-QAM) signals. The characteristics of Gray code mapping such as symmetries and repeated formats of the bit assignment in a symbol among bit groups are applied effectively for the simplification of the LLR expression. In order to reduce the complexity of the max-log-MAP algorithm for LLR calculation, we replace the mathematical max or min function of the conventional LLR expression with simple arithmetic functions. In addition, we propose an implementation algorithm of this expression. Because the proposed expression is very simple and constructive with some parameters reflecting the characteristic of the Gray code mapping result, it can easily be implemented, providing an efficient symbol de-mapping structure for various wireless applications.

This paper presents a facial expression recognition based on Gabor wavelets that uses a fuzzy C-means(FCM) clustering algorithm and neural network. Features of facial expressions are extracted to two steps. In the first step, Gabor wavelet representation can provide edges extraction of major face components using the average value of the image's 2-D Gabor wavelet coefficient histogram. In the next step, we extract sparse features of facial expressions from the extracted edge information using FCM clustering algorithm. The result of facial expression recognition is compared with dimensional values of internal stated derived from semantic ratings of words related to emotion. The dimensional model can recognize not only six facial expressions related to Ekman's basic emotions, but also expressions of various internal states.

In this paper a new algorithm of learning and evolving artificial neural networks using gene expression programming (GEP) is presented. Compared with other traditional algorithms, this new algorithm has more advantages in self-learning and self-organizing, and can find optimal solutions of artificial neural networks more efficiently and elegantly. Simulation experiments show that the algorithm of evolving weights or thresholds can easily find the perfect architecture of artificial neural networks, and obviously improves previous traditional evolving methods of artificial neural networks because the GEP algorithm imitates the evolution of the natural neural system of biology according to genotype schemes of biology to crossover and mutate the genes or chromosomes to generate the next generation, and the optimal architecture of artificial neural networks with evolved weights or thresholds is finally achieved.
An extreme learning machine (ELM) is a recently proposed learning algorithm for a single-layer feed forward neural network. In this paper we studied the ensemble of ELM by using a bagging algorithm for facial expression recognition (FER). Facial expression analysis is widely used in the behavior interpretation of emotions, for cognitive science, and social interactions. This paper presents a method for FER based on the histogram of orientation gradient (HOG) features using an ELM ensemble. First, the HOG features were extracted from the face image by dividing it into a number of small cells. A bagging algorithm was then used to construct many different bags of training data and each of them was trained by using separate ELMs. To recognize the expression of the input face image, HOG features were fed to each trained ELM and the results were combined by using a majority voting scheme. The ELM ensemble using bagging improves the generalized capability of the network significantly. The two available datasets (JAFFE and CK+) of facial expressions were used to evaluate the performance of the proposed classification system. Even the performance of individual ELM was smaller and the ELM ensemble using a bagging algorithm improved the recognition performance significantly.

This paper proposes an algorithm for risk situation recognition using facial expression. The proposed method recognitions the surprise and fear expression among human's various emotional expression for recognizing risk situation. The proposed method firstly extracts the facial region from input, detects eye region and lip region from the extracted face. And then, the method applies Uniform LBP to each region, discriminates facial expression, and recognizes risk situation. The proposed method is evaluated for Cohn-Kanade database image. The proposed method produces good results of facial expression and discriminates risk situation well.

The clustering of gene expression data is used to analyze the results of microarray studies. This clustering is one of the frequently used methods in understanding degrees of biological change and gene expression. In biological research, MCL algorithm is an algorithm that clusters nodes within a graph, and is quick and efficient. We have modified the existing MCL algorithm and applied it to microarray data. In applying the MCL algorithm we put forth a simulation that adjusts two factors, namely inflation and diagonal tent and converted them by making use of Markov matrix. Furthermore, in order to distinguish class more clearly in the modified MCL algorithm we took the average of each row and used it as a threshold. Therefore, the improved algorithm can increase accuracy better than the existing ones. In other words, in the actual experiment, it showed an average of 70% accuracy when compared with an existing class. We also compared the MCL algorithm with the self-organizing map(SOM) clustering, K-means clustering and hierarchical clustering (HC) algorithms. And the result showed that it showed better results than ones derived from hierarchical clustering and K-means method.
This paper describe methodology that is distributed on 2-dimensional plane to much high-dimensional facial motion datas using Isomap algorithm, and user interface techniques to control facial expressions by selecting expressions while user navigates this space in real-time. Isomap algorithm is processed of three steps as follow; first define an adjacency expression of each expression data, and second, calculate manifold distance between each expressions and composing expression spaces. These facial spaces are created by calculating of the shortest distance(manifold distance) between two random expressions. We have taken a Floyd algorithm for it. Third, materialize multi-dimensional expression spaces using Multidimensional Scaling, and project two dimensions plane. The smallest adjacency distance to define adjacency expressions uses Pearson Correlation Coefficient. Users can control facial expressions of 3-dimensional avatar by using user interface while they navigates two dimension spaces by real-time.
