  • This paper deals with robust stability of linear time-invariant (LTI) systems with unstructured uncertainties. A new relation between uncertainties and system poles perturbed by the uncertainties is derived from a graphical analysis. A stability criterion for LTI systems with uncertainties is proposed based on this result. The migration range of the poles in the proposed criterion is represented as the bound of uncertainties, the condition number of a system matrix, and the disc containing the poles of a given nominal system. Unlike the existing methods depending on the solutions of algebraic matrix equations, the proposed criterion provides a simpler way which does not involves algebraic matrix equations, and a more flexible root clustering approach by means of adjusting the center and the radius of the disc as well as the condition number.

  • Students' difficulties and errors in relation to mathematical proofs are worth while to say one of the dilemmas in mathematics education. The potential elements of their difficulty are scattered over the process of proving in geometry as well as algebra. This study aims to investigate whether middle school students understand the context of algebraic proof including literal expressions. We applied 24 third-grade middle school students a test item which shows a proof including a literal expression and missing the conclusion. Over the half of them responded wrong answers based on only the literal expression without considering its context. Three of them were interviewed individually to show their thinking. As a result, we could find some characteristics of their thinking including the perspective on proof as checking the validity of algebraic expression and the gap between proving and understanding of proof etc. From these, we also discussed about several didactical implications.

  • The directional algebraic reconstruction technique (DART) using the trigonometric current pattern is one of the image reconstruction algorithms in electrical impedance tomography (EIT). This method needs to compute resistances between electrode pairs as using relation between the injected currents and measured voltages for the reconstruction of the inner image. The delay time is incurred in this process. Therefore this paper proposes modified directional algebraic reconstruction technique (mDART) using the adjacent current pattern instead of the trigonometric current pattern to solve the delay time for initial resistance values. The proposed method uses measured voltages instead of computed resistances in the reconstruction algorithm. Hence this method can eliminate the delay time because it does not use the resistances. In conclusion, the proposed method improves image quality and image reconstruction time by using the adjacent current pattern. To prove performance of the proposed method, we carried on computer simulation of various cases.

  • Recently the stereo vision based on conics has received much attention by many authors. Conics have many features such as their matrix expression, efficient correspondence checking, abundance of conical shapes in real world. Extensions to higher algebraic curves met with limited success. Although irreducible algebraic curves are rather rare in the real world, lines and conics are abundant whose products provide good examples of higher algebraic curves. We consider plane algebraic curves of an arbitrary degree $n{\geq}2$ with a fully calibrated stereo system. We present closed form solutions to both correspondence and reconstruction problems. Let $f_1,\;f_2,\;{\pi}$ be image curves and plane and $VC_P(g)$ the cone with generator (plane) curve g and vertex P. Then the relation $VC_{O1}(f_1)\;=\;VC_{O1}(VC_{O2}(f_2)\;∩\;{\pi})$ gives polynomial equations in the coefficient $d_1,\;d_2,\;d_3$ of the plane ${\pi}$. After some manipulations, we get an extremely simple polynomial equation in a single variable whose unique real positive root plays the key role. It is then followed by evaluating $O(n^2)$ polynomials of a single variable at the root. It is in contrast to the past works which usually involve a simultaneous system of multivariate polynomial equations. We checked our algorithm using synthetic as well as real world images.

  • The manifold $^*g-ESX_n$ is a generalized n-dimensional Riemannian manifold on which the differential geometric structure is imposed by the unified field tensor $^*g^{{\lambda}{\nu}}$ through the ES-connection which is both Einstein and semi-symmetric. The purpose of the present paper is to study the algebraic geometric structures of 3-dimensional $^*g-ESX_3$. Particularly, in 3-dimensional $^*g-ESX_3$, we derive a new set of powerful recurrence relations in the first class.

  • This paper presents the accurate deembeding method for pad and parasitics of MOSFET device. rad effects are deembedded using THRU LINE, which is much simpler method without laborious fitting procedure compared with conventional OPEN and SHORT pad modeling. Parasitic resistance extraction uses the algebraic relation between increments of inversion layer charge and oxide capacitance. It is especially adequate for insulating gate junction device. Extracted parasitics are verified through comparing modeled and measured S parameters.

  • Some multivariate analyses provide configurations for variables or objects in low dimensional space because we can see easily their relation. In particular, in simple correspondence analysis(SCA), we can obtain the various configurations which are called SCA Maps based on the algebraic algorithms. Moreover, it often occur the variability among them. Therefore, in this study, we will give a comparison of variability of SCA maps using the procrustes analysis which is a technique of comparing configurations in multidimensional scaling.

  • We in this note study a ring theoretic property which unifies Armendariz and IFP. We call this new concept INFP. We first show that idempotents and nilpotents are connected by the Abelian ring property. Next the structure of INFP rings is studied in relation to several sorts of algebraic systems.

  • The well-known geometries showing the relation between the angular coordinates of a plane normal and a Laue diffraction spot have been improved. The Bernalte's algebraic equations for the lines in the Greninger and Leonhardt charts have been alternatively derived in more intuitive and perspicuous ways than his original derivation.
