Monitoring Technology for Flood Forecasting in Urban Area (도시하천방재를 위한 지능형 모니터링에 관한 연구)

  • Up to now, a lot of houses, roads and other urban facilities have been damaged by natural disasters such as flash floods and landslides. It is reported that the size and frequency of disasters are growing greatly due to global warming. In order to mitigate such disaster, flood forecasting and alerting systems have been developed for the Han river, Geum river, Nak-dong river and Young-san river. These systems, however, do not help small municipal departments cope with the threat of flood. In this study, a real-time urban flood forecasting service (U-FFS) is developed for ubiquitous computing city which includes small river basins. A test bed is deployed at Tan-cheon in Gyeonggido to verify U-FFS. It is found that U-FFS can forecast the water level of outlet of river basin and provide real-time data through internet during heavy rain. Furthermore, it is expected that U-FFS presented in this study can be applied to ubiquitous computing city (u-City) and/or other cities which have suffered from flood damage for a long time.

  • 지능화된 사물이 스스로 공간의 상황을 인식하여 필요한 행위를 대신해 주는 유비쿼터스 컴퓨팅의 응용 환경 하에서는 언제 어디서나 상황 정보를 분석하여 원하는 사용자에게 실시간으로 알려줄 수 있어야 한다. 그러나, 기존의 e-Logistics 물류 시스템에서는 실물의 흐름과 정보의 흐름간에 불일치가 존재하기 때문에 화물의 위치를 실시간으로 추적하는 것이 불가능하였다. 따라서, 우리는 이러한 문제들을 해결하기 위해 화물에 센싱 가능한 스마트 태그를 부착하고, 이로부터 실시간으로 수집된 정보를 이용하여 사용자에게 유용한 정보를 제공하는 u-Logistics 알림 시스템을 설계하고 구현하였다. 이 논문에서는 u-Logistics 시스템의 전체적인 구조를 기술하고, 특히 규칙의 정의에서부터 알림 서버가 실시간으로 이벤트를 수집하여 원하는 사용자에게 화욜 또는 차량에 대한 정보를 제공하기까지의 알림 시스템의 전반적인 처리 과정을 기술한다. 마지막으로, 물류 환경에의 적용 시나리오를 통하여 u-Logistics 알림 시스템의 구현을 제시한다.

A Development of Real-time Flood Forecasting System for U-City (Ubiquitous 환경의 U-City 홍수예측시스템 개발)

In this study, a real-time urban flood forecasting service (U-FFS) is developed for ubiquitous computing city which includes small river basins. A test bed is deployed at Tan-cheon in Gyeonggido to verify U-FFS. Wireless sensors such as rainfall gauge and water lever gauge are installed to develop hydrologic forecasting model and CCTV camera systems are also incorporated to capture high definition images of river basins. U-FFS is based on the ANFIS (Adaptive Neuro-Fuzzy Inference System) that is data-driven model and is characterized by its accuracy and adaptability. It is found that U-FFS can forecast the water level of outlet of river basin and provide real-time data through internet during heavy rain. It is revealed that U-FFS can predict the water level of 30 minutes and 1 hour later very accurately. Unlike other hydrologic forecasting model, this newly developed U-FFS has advantages such as its applicability and feasibility. Furthermore, it is expected that U-FFS presented in this study can be applied to ubiquitous computing city (U-City) and/or other cities which have suffered from flood damage for a long time.

  • Wearable devices come in a variety of shapes and sizes in numerous fields in numerous fields and are available in various forms. They can be integrated into clothing, gloves, hats, glasses, and bags and used in healthcare, the medical field, and machine interfaces. These devices keep track individuals' biological and behavioral data to help with health communication and are often used for injury prevention. Those with hearing loss or impaired vision find it more difficult to recognize an approaching person or object; these sensing devices are particularly useful for such individuals, as they assist them with injury prevention by alerting them to the presence of people or objects in their immediate vicinity. Despite these obvious preventive benefits to developing Internet of Things based devices for the disabled, the development of these devices has been sluggish thus far. In particular, when compared with people without disabilities, people with hearing impairment have a much higher probability of averting danger when they are able to notice it in advance. However, research and development remain severely underfunded. In this study, we incorporated a wearable detection system, which uses an infrared proximity sensor, into a backpack. This system helps its users recognize when someone is approaching from behind through visual and tactile notification, even if they have difficulty hearing or seeing the objects in their surroundings. Furthermore, this backpack could help prevent accidents for all users, particularly those with visual or hearing impairments.

  • There have been various forms of systems such as a digital speedometer or a black box etc. to meet the social requirement for reducing traffic accidents and safe driving. However that systems are based on after-accident vehicle data, there is limit to prevent the accident before. So in our previous research, by storing, analyzing the Vehicle-dynamic information coming from driver's behavior, we are developing the decision-device which could provide driver with Alerting-Information in real-time to enhance the driver's safety drive. but the performance valuation is not yet executed. Finally, this study developed positional recognition system by using the DGPS for pre-developed risky driving decision device. The result of test analyzed with the same that the aggregated vehicle dynamics data in DGPS and dangerous risky driving decision device. If the performance of risky driving decision device is verified by precisely positional recognition system, the risky driving management of vehicle would be effected.

  • During the winter season, when the weather gets colder every year, electricity consumption increases rapidly. The occurrence of fires is increasing due to a short circuit in electrical facilities of buildings such as markets, bathrooms, and apartments with high population density while using a lot of electricity. The cause of these short circuit fires is mostly due to the aging of the wires, the usage increases, and the excessive load cannot be endured, and the wire sheath is melted and caused by nearby ignition materials. In this paper, the load and overheat generated in the electric wire are measured through a complex sensor composed of an overload sensor, a VoC sensor, and an overheat sensor. Based on this, big data analysis is carried out to develop a platform capable of predicting, alerting, and blocking electric fires in real time, and a simulator capable of simulated fire experiments.

  • More recently, RFID (Radio Frequency Identification) systems have begun to find greater use in various industrial fields. The use of RFID system in these application domains has been promoted by efforts to develop the RFID tags which are low in cost, small in size, and high in performance. The RFID applications enable the real-time capture and update of RFID tag information, while simultaneously allowing business process change through real-time alerting and alarms. These be developed to monitor person or objects with RFID tags in a place and to provide visibility and traceability of the seamless flows of RFID tags. In this time, the RFID readers should be placed in diverse locations, the RFID flows between these readers can be tested based on various scenarios. However, due to the high cost of RFID readers, it may be difficult to prepare the similar environment equipped with RFID read/write devices. In this paper, we propose a simulator to allow RFID application testing without installing physical devices. It can model the RFID deployment environment, place various RFID readers and sensors on this model, and move the RFID tags through the business processes. This simulator can improve the software development productivity by accurately testing RFID middleware and applications. In addition, when data security cannot be ensured by any fault, it can decide where the problem is occurred between RFID hardware and middleware.

  • Vietnam is a marine nation with more than 3,444 km of shorelines, thousands of islands, and 2,360 rivers and canals of over 42,000 km long. As the frequency and the volume of oil transportation by ships increase, the possibility of oil spill incidents becomes higher than ever. Fuel oil and cargo oil spills at sea have widespread impact and long-term consequences on marine ecosystems, coastal resources and human health as well as socio-economy. This study is to show not only the present state of marine oil spills in Vietnam such as the number and the volume of oil spills for two decades, and an overall about Vietnamese national response system like national framework for Oil Spill Response (OSR), etc. but also to present the recommendations for enhancing national capability in response to oil spill incidents in Vietnam, especially, with a comparison of national OSR systems between Vietnam and South Korea. As the result, the number and the volume of marine oil spills in Vietnam showed an upward trend as opposed to a downward trend in South Korea. This means that Vietnam has the possibility of oil spills in coastal waters. Therefore, three main recommendations for the enhancement of national OSR capability in Vietnam are proposed as follows: (1) the development of alternative plan for reenforcing national OSR system involving legal system for preparedness and response to oil spill pollution such as the acceptance and implementation of OPRC Convention as well as the establishment of national fund compensating for the damage and loss caused by oil pollution; (2) the enhancement of a consistent reporting, alerting and monitoring system; and (3) the development of training and exercise programs with standard contents of educational courses.
