An unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV) is an aircraft controlled by .emote commands from ground station and/o. pre-programmed onboard autopilot system. A navigation system in the UAV provides a navigation data for a flight control computer(FCC). The FCC requires accurate and reliable position, velocity and attitude information for guidance and control. This paper proposes an ADGPS/INS integrated navigation system for a UAV. The proposed navigation system comprises an attitude determination GPS (ADGPS) receive., a navigation computer unit, and a low-cost commercial MEMS inertial measurement unit(IMU). The navigation algorithm contains a fault detection and isolation (FDI) function fur integrity. In order to evaluate the performance of the proposed navigation system, two flight tests were preformed using a small aircraft. The first flight test was carried out to confirm fundamental operation of the proposed navigation system and to check the effectiveness of the FDI algorithm. In the second flight test, the navigation performance and the benefit of the GPS attitude information were checked in a high dynamic environment. The flight test results show that the proposed ADGPS/INS integrated navigation system gives a reliable performance even when anomalous GPS data is provided and better navigation performance than a conventional GPS/INS integration unit.
Geo-pointing is a function that maintains LOS(Line of Sight) to a stationary ground target by controlling azimuth and elevation angles of a EOS(Electro-Optical System) which are calculated from aircraft navigation data and target coordinates. In design and implementation of the geo-pointing, a transmission time delay between GPS/INS and EOS is a major degradation factor of the geo-pointing performance when the aircraft is rapidly maneuvered especially. In this paper, a kalman filter is designed to compensate the transmission time delay of aircraft navigation data. Simulation and test results show that the geo-pointing performance is enhanced by the proposed compensation technique.
Obstacle defines all fixed and mobile objects, or parts thereof, that are located on an area intended for the surface movement of aircraft or extend above a defined surface intended to protect aircraft in flight or stand outside those defined surfaces and that have been assessed as being a hazard to air navigation. Aircraft operations are based on electronic supporting systems using radio frequencies to assist pilots. These frequencies can receive outside interference that change their courses or power, such as distortion, attenuation or reinforcements by an obstacle. This is a preliminary case study that shows the relation of instrument flight procedures and the degree of interferences introduced by a planned obstacle, which is a main bridge post, within the service volume of the radio navigation aids. For the purpose of this study, the case airport's data and it's VOR/DME and ILS systems' limitations are analyzed, as well as the relation of interferences between the obstacle and navigation aides were reviewed with the internal regulations in Korea.
Mankind has been using ships for more than 5,000 years and has developed a range of related technologies. However, despite such a long history, compared to aircraft with a history of approximately one century, the pace of progress has been markedly slow. Even though technological progress of ships or the installation of various navigation equipment have been achieved, seaborne collisions have occurred quite frequently. This study analyzed the TCAS( Traffic Collision Avoidance System) that has contributed to the prevention of collisions with other transport methods including aircraft to suggest a collision avoidance system that can be deployed for ships. To apply the technologies applied to aircraft that move in 3D to ships that move in 2D, the difference in the operational environment between the two modes was analyzed to identify elements that need to be applied to ships. The suggested display of data on the collision prevention system is one that manipulates the augmented reality display device used in automobiles that over the past few years has undergone rapid development. Based on the presentation of technological elements that need to be considered when adopting the SCAS or the Seaborne Collision Avoidance System as suggested in this study, the authors hope to contribute to the prevention of collisions.
The Strap Down Inertial Measurement Unit(SDIMU) is recently used for the sensor package of the modern underwater vehicles such as torpedoes and unmanned underwater-vehicles. For using SDIMU, an initial alignment must be carried out before the fire or navigation stage. The general initial alignment methods require that a mother vehicle Is a stationary condition or the Inertial Navigation System(INS) of vehicle is received the specific of data navigation from the mother vehicle. But an underwater vehicle dropped from aircraft is hard to satisfy above both necessary conditions of the general initial alignment. So, we suggest a new strap down initial alignment method of an underwater vehicle dropped from aircraft without using any aided sensors. The highlight point of this method is that a period of initial alignment is not before the fire but during running stage to fix alignment error. And we verify it by analyzing various data of S/W simulations, Hardware In the Loop Simulation(HILS) tests and sea trials.
Thispapr proposes hybrid navigation parameter estimation using sequential aerial images. The proposed navigation parameter estimation system is composed of two parts: relative position estimation and absolute position estimation. the relative position estimation recursively computes the current velocity and absolute position estimation. The relative position estimation recursively computes the current velocity and position of an aircraft by accumulating navigation parameters extracted from two succesive aerial images. Simple accumulation of parameter values decreases reliability of the extracted parameters as an aircraft goes on navigating. therefore absolute position estimation is required to compensate for position error generated in the relative position step. The absolute position estimation algorithm combining image matching and digital elevation model(DEM) matching is presented. Computer simulation with real aerial image sequences shows the efficiency of the proposed hybrial algorithm.
