As the size of semiconductors becomes smaller, it is necessary to perform high precision polishing of nanoscale. Ceria, which is generally used as an abrasive, is widely used because of its uniform quality, but its stability is not high because it has a high molecular weight and causes agglomeration and rapid precipitation. Such agglomeration and precipitation causes scratches in the polishing process. Therefore, it is important to accurately analyze the size distribution of ceria particles. In this study, a study was conducted to select dispersants useful for preventing coagulation and sedimentation of ceria. First, a dispersant was synthesized and a ceria slurry was prepared. The defoamer selection experiment was performed in order to remove the air bubbles which may occur in the production of ceria slurry. Dynamic light scattering (DLS) and asymmetrical flow field-flow fractionation (AsFlFFF) were used to determine the size distribution of ceria particles in the slurry. AsFlFFF is a technique for separating nanoparticles based on sequential elution of samples as in chromatography, and is a useful technique for determining the particle size distribution of nanoparticle samples. AsFlFFF was able to confirm the presence of a little quantities of large particles in the vicinity of 300 nm, which DLS can not detect, besides the main distribution in the range of 60-80 nm. AsFlFFF showed better accuracy and precision than DLS for particle size analysis of a little quantities of large particles such as ceria slurry treated in this study.
Internal and inlet flows of a cross-flow fan have been visualized using a particle image velocimetry(PIV) to analyze a relationship with a performance of a room air conditioner(RAC). A test model which has a geometric similarity with the real RAC has been manufactured for the experiment and the flow characteristics have been analyzed with various flow rates and inlet grill angles for the cross-flow fan. The experimental results using the PIV technique have been compared with the existing numerical results. Also, a location and movement of an eccentric vortex which can affect the performance and noise of the RAC has been investigated by the PIV with various flow rates and inlet grill angles.

This study discusses the development of waterproofing layer jet-spray nozzle that forms a three-dimensional air cell. This nozzle has an air flow generation mechanism in the air groove of the attachment cell part located at the end of the injection nozzle. Since the air grooves also function as an air curtain, the airborne particles generated when the waterproof material is sprayed is effectively blocked. In the past, spraying of the waterproof material through the high pressure was possible, but this technology allows stable injection due to the static agitation method, and various problems caused by particle generation has been (damages to neighboring areas, economic loss, etc.) minimized.

The purpose of this study is to find out a flow characteristics when a crossflow-fan is installed inside the computer case and to provide information about the preliminary data of cooling efficiency of CPU and a flow inside and outside of a computer case. Under the condition of operating the fan inside the experimental duct we changed the position of a installation of the slot, and the experiment measured with PIV and the results are as follows. Under the influence of the crossflow-fan installed to the air discharging side, mean velocity between 35 to 45 on the point 80 of the Slot 0.2.3 of the case increased and it influences discharging the air inside of the computer case. On the left-upper end. which isn't directly influenced by the suction-discharging fan installed inside the PC, a flow occurs caused by vortex due to the Sirocco-Fan and Slot installed on the center of the right side. We can see that a flow distribution increases when the Sirocco-Fan operates and a whirl appears stronger between the slot and the suction fan. It is thought that this phenomenon is influenced by a flow while it is on the way of entering from the suction-fan and going out to the discharging-fan.

Since the development of Bubble Image Velocimetry (BIV) technique as the complementary technique of Particle Image Velocimetry (PIV), the application of digital imaging technique in the field of hydraulic and coastal engineering increased rapidly. BIV works very well in multi-phase flow (air-water) flows where the PIV technique doesn't. However, the velocity field obtained from BIV technique often resulted in a velocity vector on the outside of the flow (false velocity) since the Field of View (FOV) usually not only cover the air-water flow but also the area outside the flow. In this study, a simple technique of post processing velocity field was developed. This technique works based on the average of the pixel value in the interrogation area. An image of multi-phase flow of wave overtopping was obtained through physical experiment using BIV technique. The velocity calculation was performed based on the similar method in PIV. A velocity masking technique developed in this study then applied to remove the false velocity vector. Result from non-masking, manually removed and auto removed false velocity vector were presented. The masking technique show a similar result as manually removed velocity vector. This method could apply in a large number of velocity field which is could increase the velocity map post-processing time.

A finite difference lattice Boltzmann model which allows us to simulate gas-liquid two-phase flows with large density difference, for instance, 800 times for air and water is considered. Two-particle model is used and the density difference is introduced by changing the acceleration according to the fluid density. Numerical measurement of surface tension agrees well with theoretical predictions. Simulations of two-phase phenomenon for phase-transition is carried out, showing applicability of the model for two-phase flows. The two-dimensional cavitating flow around a board set up in the fluid way is also simulated. As a result, it was confirmed that the FDLB method with two-particle model was effective in numerical simulation of cavitating flow and the bubble periodically grew up at the low pressure area behind the board, in which the fluid condition was influenced by the cavitation number.

The purpose of this study is to find out a flow characteristics required by the design of a computer case and to provide information about the preliminary data of cooling efficiency of CPU and a flow inside of a case. We examined a flow characteristic-suction a tracing particle occurred from a surge tand installed at an inlet into a computer case and moving it to a exit duct-experimentally by using PIV. The experimental device was consists of a fan inflowing and discharging the air into the computer case and a slot installed with a CPU cooling ran add-on, and analyzed the data of Re-stress distribution, velocity distribution, and kinetic energy distribution. This research will make a great contribution to improvement of the efficiency and performance of notebook, workstation, server, and all the design of electronic devices using large scale integrated(LSI) as well as usual computers.

The present investigation deals with the study of the internal flow phenomena of the counterflow type vortex tube using experimental testing and numerical simulation. Visualization was carried out using the surface tracing method, injecting dye on the vortex tube wall using a needle. Vortex tube is made of acrylic to visualize the surface particle tracing and the input air pressure was varied from 0.1MPa to 0.3MPa. The experimentally visualized results on the tube show that there is an apparent sudden changing of the trajectory on the vortex tube wall which was observed in every experimental test case. This may indicate the stagnation position of the vortex flow. The visualized stagnation position moves towards the vortex generator with increase in cold flow ratio and input pressure. Three-dimensional computational study is also conducted to obtain more detailed flow information in the vortex tube. Calculated total pressure, static pressure and total temperature distributions in the vortex tube were in good agreement with the experimental data. The computational particle trace on the vortex tube wall is very similar to that observed in experiments.
An experimental study was carried out to study the solid-liquid mixture upward flow in a vertical and inclined annulus with rotating inner cylinder. Lift forces acting on a fluidized particle plays a central role in many importance applications, such as the removal of drill cuttings in horizontal drill holes, sand transport in fractured reservoirs, sediment transport and cleaning of particles from surfaces, etc. Field measurements have revealed that the pressure drop over a borehole during drilling of a slim oil well or a well with a long reach can depend significantly on the rotation speed of the drill pipe. An accurate prediction of the annular frictional pressure drop is therefore important for conditions where the annular clearance is small. Effect of annulus inclination and drill pipe rotation on the carrying capacity of drilling fluid, particle rising velocity, and pressure drop in the slim hole annulus have been measured for fully developed flows of water and of aqueous solutions.

Several samplers using gravimetric methods such as high-volume air sampler, MiniVol portable sampler, personal environmental monitor(PEM) and cyclone were applied to determine the concentrations of fine particles in atmospheric condition. Comparative evaluation between high-volume air sampler and Minivol portable sampler for $PM_{10}$, and between Minivol portable sampler and PEM was undertaken from June, 2003 to January 2004. Simultaneously, meteorological conditions such as wind speed, wind direction, relative humidity and temperature was measured to check the factors affecting the concentrations of fine particles. In addition, particle concentrations by cyclone with an aerodynamic diameter of $4{\mu}m$ were measured. Correlation coefficient between highvolume air sampler and portable air sampler for $PM_{10}$ was 0.79 (p<0.001). However, the mean concentration for $PM_{10}$ by high-volume air sampler was significantly higher than that by Minivol portable sampler (p=0.018). Correlation coefficient between Minivol portable sampler and PEM for $PM_{2.5}$ as 0.74 (p<0.001), and the measured mean concentrations for $PM_{2.5}$ did not show significant difference. Difference of the measured concentrations of fine particle might be explained by wind speed and humidity among meteorological conditions. Particle concentration differences by measurement samplers were proportional to the wind speed, but inversely proportional to the relative humidity, though it was not a significant correlation.
