The critical reynolds number in a square-sectional straight duct is investigated experimentally. The experimental study for the air flow in a square-sectional straight duct is carried out to calssify critical Reynolds number on steady flow and unsteady flow. To calssify the critical Reynolds number we obtained velocity waveform by using a hot-wireanemometer and data acquisition system with photocorder.

In the present paper, the flow distribution in the hot air drying chamber of a sizing machine was numerically analyzed with respect to the geometries of the intake duct to obtain the more uniform flow distribution in the chamber. The result shows that the velocity distribution in the inlet of the chamber was significantly dependent on the the geometry of the intake duct. The degree of the non-uniformity in the chamber was reduced as the incident angle of the intake duct became to be smaller.

Flow characteristics of turbulent steady fluid flow past a cylinder in rectangular duct are measured by 5 W laser doppler velocity meter. The fluid flow is also computed by commercial software of STAR-CD for comparison between the measurement and computation. The turbulent models applied in the computations are standard K-epsilon model, RNG K-epsilon model and Chen K-epsilon model. Acurracy of standard K-epsilon model is a little bit better than acurracies of other models even though those models have almost the same order of error compared to measured data. The computations predict satisfactorily the measured velocity profiles at middle section of the circular cylinder before the fluid flow diverges. However, there are some disagreements between them at down stream from the circular cylinder.

The flow characteristics of developing turbulent pulsating flows are investigated experimentally in the entrance region of a square duct ($40mm{\times}40mm$ and 4,000mm). Mean velocity profiles, turbulence intensity and entrance length are measured by using a hot-wire anemometer system together with data acquisition and processing systems. It is found that the velocity waveforms are not changed in the fully developed flow region where that $x/Dh{\geq}40$. For turbulent pulsating flow, the turbulent components in the velocity waveforms increase as the dimensionless transverse position approaches the wall. Mean velocity profiles of the turbulent steady flows follow the one-seventh power law profile in the fully developed flow region. Turbulence intensity increases as the dimensionless transverse position increases from the center to the wall of the duct, and is slightly smaller in the accelerating phase than in the decelerating phase for the turbulent pulsating flows. The entrance length of the turbulent pulsating flow is about 40 times as large as the hydraulic diameter under the present experimental conditions.

A comparison of fully developed heat transfer and friction factor characteristics has been made in rectangular ducts with ones roughened by five different shapes. The effects of rib shape geometries and Reynolds number are examined. The rib height-to-duct hydraulic diameter, pitch-to height ratio, and aspect ratio of channel width to height are fixed at $e$/De=0.0476, P/$e$=8, and W/H=2.33, respectively. To understand the mechanisms of the heat transfer enhancements, the measurements of the friction factors are also conducted in the smooth and rough channels. The data indicates that the triangular type rib has a substantially higher heat transfer performance than any other ones in the range we studied.

The steady, incompressible developing 3-dimensional turblent flow in a square sectioned curved duct has been investigated by using partially-parabolic equation and Finite Analytic Method. The calculation of turbulent flow field is performed using 2-equation K-$\epsilon$ turbulence model, modified wall function, simpler algorithm and numerically generated body fitted coordinates. Iso-mean velocity contours at the various sections are compared with the existing experimental data and elliptic solutions by other authors. In the region of $0^{\circ}<{\theta}<71^{\circ}$, present results agree with the experimental data much better than the elliptic solution for the similar number of grid points. Furthermore, for the same tolerance, the present solution converges four times faster than the elliptic solution.
An experimental study was carried out to investigate the emission characteristics of LP gas burner for the Practical combustion conditions including fm voltage, inlet area, gas Pressure, emission resistance, duct length and height. The result shows that CO is almost remains constant for the emission fan voltage, but significantly increases with the reduction rate of air inlet, up to 3000ppm at 50% of reduction rate. Also, the variation of gas pressure has no effect to CO of gas boiler due to its governor which controls gas pressure secondly, but it gives an rapid increase of CO for the gas range. The emission resistance test shows that CO is suddenly increased with the reduction rate of emission duct above 70% and main burner is stopped at 90%. The reverse wind test shows that CO is suddenly increased with the air velocity above 7m/s and main burner is stopped at 9m/s. The more horizontal length of emission duct is long and the vertical height is low, CO is infinitesimally increased.

Analysis of fluid flow in rectangular ducts has been conducted since it has a wide application. The purpose is to provide experimental data for the comparison with computational results. Velocity distributions inside a rectangular duct with $90^{\circ}$ mitered elbow are measured by 5W laser doppler velocity meter for Reynolds numbers of 4,049, 8,104, and 12,186. Flow rates obtained by the integration of measured velocity profile at three cross-sections, which are inlet, middle section after the elbow, and outlet, have errors less than 0.9% among them. Turbulent fluctuation components in two directions are found to have almost similar magnitude each other at a certain location due to the isotropic characteristic of turbulence.

Flue gas from apartment heating gas boiler is exhausted outside through an exhaust duct mounted horizontally in a vertical row on the wall. The flue gas includes nitrogen-oxides (NOx) and carbon monoxide. To investigate the possible entrainment of the flue gas into the apartments through the windows, a large eddy simulation (LES) based numerical method is utilized. Distribution of the velocity intensity and temperature around the exhaust ducts is presented for three numerical parameters: exhaust velocity, temperature of the flue gas, and exhaust duct length. The flow field visualized with particles inserted at the ends of the ducts is also presented. The results clearly show that the exhausted flue gas may flow into the apartments when the windows are open.
