Background: The purpose of this study was to evaluate the composition of the crystal phases of various calcium silicate-based materials (CSMs): ProRoot white MTAⓇ (mineral trioxide aggregate) (WMTA), Ortho MTAⓇ (OM), Endocem MTAⓇ (EM), Retro MTAⓇ (RM), Endocem ZrⓇ (EN-Z), BiodentineTM (BD), EZ-sealTM (EZ), and OrthoMTA III (OM3). Methods: In a sample holder, 5 g of the powder sample was placed and the top surface of the material was packed flat using a sterilized glass slide. The prepared slides were mounted on an X-ray diffraction (XRD) instrument (D8 Advance; Bruker AXS GmbH, Germany). The X-ray beam 2θ angle range was set at 10~90° and scanned at 1.2° per minute. The Cu X-ray source set to operate at 40 kV and 40 mA in the continuous mode. The peaks in the diffraction pattern of each sample were analyzed using the software Diffrac (version 2.1). Then, the peaks were compared and matched with those of standard materials in the corresponding Powder Diffraction File (PDF-2, JCPDS International Center for Diffraction Data). A powder samples of the materials were analyzed using XRD and the peaks in diffraction pattern were compared to the Powder Diffraction File data. Results: Eight CSMs showed a similar diffraction pattern because their main component was calcium silicate. Eight CSMs showed similar diffraction peaks because calcium silicate was their main component. Two components were observed to have been added as radiopacifiers: bismuth oxide was detected in WMTA, OM, and EM while zirconium oxide was detected in RM, EN-Z, BD, EZ, and OM3. Unusual patterns were detected for the new material, OM3, which had strong peaks at low angles. Conclusion: It was caused by the presence of Brushite, which is believed to have resulted in crystal growth in a particular direction for a specific purpose.

To defend against harmful gamma radiation, new types of materials for use in the construction of heavyweight concrete (HWC) are still needed to be developed. This research introduces new materials to be employed as a partial replacement for fine aggregate (FA) to manufacture high-performance heavyweight concrete (HPHWC). These materials include hematite, black sand, ilmenite, and magnetite, with substitution ratios of 50% and 100% of FA. In this research, the hardening and fresh characteristics of HPHWC were obtained. Concrete samples' Gamma-ray linear attenuation coefficient was evaluated utilizing a gamma source of Co-60 through the thicknesses of 2.5, 5, 7.5, 10, 12.5, and 15 cm. High temperatures were studied for HPHWC samples, which were exposed to up to 700℃ for two hours. Energy-dispersive x-rays and a scanning electron microscope carried out microstructure analyses. Magnetite as an FA attained the lowest compressive strength of 87.1 MPa, but the best radiation protection characteristics and the highest density of 3100 kg/m3 were achieved. After 28 days, the attenuation efficiency of concrete mixtures was increased by 6.5% when fine sand was replaced with black sand at a ratio of 50%. HPHWC, which contains hematite, black sand, ilmenite, and magnetite, is designed to reduce environmental and health dangers and be used in medicinal, military, and civil applications.

In case of crushing rock to produce materials for lean concrete subbase layer in concrete pavement, natural sand is used for the gradation adjustment of aggregates, and the percentage of natural sand used is 30%~40% of the weight ratio of aggregate mix. The supply of natural sand that is used in lean concrete as a fine aggregate is getting harder due to the current of exhaustion of source, and the cost for the purchase of natural sand is included in the cost of roadway construction. This study, therefore, was conducted in order to resolve the exhaustion of materials and economize in construction expenditure by the application of screenings, which is by-product of crushing rock in quarry, as an alternative to natural sand. As a result of a comparative analysis on the application of screenings and natural sand with typical types of rock that is produced in domestic, which was conducted in the first year, It is found out that the use of screenings as a fine aggregate showed better unconfined compression strength. Verification of actual application of screenings was conducted in the second year, after test construction and follow-up investigation. The compressive strength, compaction density, settlement of screenings applied case was higher than that of natural sand. Thus, it is expected that application of screenings to construction in field will contribute to the cost saving, material recycling and the protection of environment.
This paper presents the short-term and long-term measures to determine the fugitive dust concentration in a contaminated site, which is a crucial step for the determination of particulate emission factor (PEF) for risk assessment. As a long-term measure, USEPA method employing Q/C value (inverse of the ratio of the geometric mean air concentration to the emission flux at center of a 0.5-acre square source) seems to be suitable as it reflects regional-specific meteorological conditions. However, it requires nation-wide database collection and interpretation. Use of ASTM method is an alternative as a short-term measure. The method is readily field-applicable as PEF calculation equation is simple and input parameters can be easily derived at the site of interest as well without the nation-wide efforts. Using ASTM method, PEF at the Former Janghang Smelter Site was determined. According to various mode of aggregate size distribution and fractions of vegetative cover, which are the most important factors in PEF calculation, PEF values at the Former Janghang Smelter Site varied greatly. When the mode of aggregate size distribution was set at 0.25 mm, PEF values at the Former Janghang Smelter Site was 5~20 times higher than the default PEF value (i.e., 35 ${\mu}g/m^3$) shown in the current Korean Soil Contamination Risk Assessment Guidance. On contrast, when the mode was set at 2 mm, PEF values at the Former Janghang Smelter Site was 160~640 times lower than the default PEF value in the Korean Guidance.
The Eoraesan area, Chungju, which is located in the northwestern part of Ogcheon Metamorphic Zone, Korea, mainly consists of the Neoproterozoic Gyemyeongsan Formation and the Mesozoic igneous rocks which intruded it. The metaacidic rocks (MAR) of the Gyemyeongsan Formation show a maximum radioactive value, and the Early Jurassic biotite granite is regionally distributed in this area. In this paper is researched the microstructure related to the growth of rare-earth mineral of allanite in the MAR, and is considered the source and occurrence time of rare-earth element (REE) mineralization. The MAR is mainly composed of alkalic feldspar (mainly microcline), quartz, iron-oxidizing mineral, biotite, muscovite, plagioclase, hornblende, allanite, zircon, epidote, fluorite, apatite, garnet, (clino)zoisite etc. The radioactive elements contained in the allanite cause a dark brown hale in the surrounding biotite, and the allinte also occurs as aggregate along the regional foliation. The deflection of regional foliation and the strain shadows, which are common to the pre-tectonic porphyroblast grown before the formation of regional foliation, can't be observed around most allanites (aggregates). The grain size and orientation of ironoxidizing mineral included in the allanite aggregate are the same as those in the matrix. It is recognized the hydrothermal conversion of hornblende to biotite due to the intrusion of igneous rock, and the secondary biotite occurs and contacts with allanite, zircon, epidote etc. These microstructures indicate that the rare-earth mineral of allanite (aggregate) grew by the hydrothermal alteration due to the intrusion of igneous rock after the formation of regional foliation. It is considered that the REE mineralization is closely related to the intrusion of Early Jurassic biotite granite which is regionally distributed in this area.

Fine dust is a cause of serious ecological problems, and fugitive dust generated from construction sites is a major source of fine dust in Korea. However, at construction sites, including concrete manufacturing industry sites, measurements are rarely made at the fugitive dust generation stage, and passive removal methods are the majority. Therefore, in this study, a fugitive dust measurement method suitable for managing fugitive dust generated during aggregate unloading in the concrete manufacturing industry sites was selected. In addition, the purpose was to analyze the amount of fugitive dust reduction according to the operation of the reduction system by applying the automatic fugitive dust reduction system to the aggregate unloading site. As a result, the reliability of the light scattering method was secured through the comparative measurement of the beta-ray absorption method and the light scattering method, and the light scattering method correction coefficient was calculated and applied to the measured value of the fugitive dust particle mass concentration at the concrete manufacturing industry sites. In addition, the fugitive dust reduction rate according to the operation of the automatic fugitive dust reduction system was derived.
Reputation systems aggregate users' feedback after the completion of a transaction and compute the "reputation" of products, services, or providers, which can assist other users in decision-making in the future. With the rapid growth of online e-Learning content providing services, a suitable reputation system for more credible e-Learning content delivery has become important and is essential if educational content providers are to remain competitive. Most existing reputation systems focus on generating ratings only for user reputation; they fail to consider the reputations of products or services(item reputation). However, it is essential for B2C e-Learning services to have a reliable reputation rating mechanism for items since they offer guidance for decision-making by presenting the ranks or ratings of e-Learning content items. To overcome this problem, we propose a novel collaborative filtering based reputation rating method. Collaborative filtering, one of the most successful recommendation methods, can be used to improve a reputation system. In this method, dual information sources are formed with groups of co-oriented users and expert users and to adapt it to the reputation rating mechanism. We have evaluated its performance experimentally by comparing various reputation systems.

A source-synchronous receiver based on a delay-locked loop is presented. It employs a shared global calibration control between channels, yet achieves channel expandability for high aggregate I/O bandwidth. The global calibration control accomplishes skew calibration, equalizer adaptation, and phase lock of all the channels in a calibration period, resulting in the reduced hardware overhead and area of each data lane. In addition, the weight-adjusted dual-interpolating delay cell, which is used in the multiphase DLL, guarantees sufficient phase linearity without using dummy delay cells, while offering a high-frequency operation. The proposed receiver is designed in the 90-nm CMOS technology, and achieves error-free eye openings of more than 0.5 UI across 9-28 inch Nelco4000-6 microstrips at 4-7 Gb/s and more than 0.42 UI at data rates of up to 9 Gb/s. The data lane occupies only $0.152mm^2$ and consumes 69.8 mW, while the rest of the receiver occupies $0.297mm^2$ and consumes 56.0 mW at the 7- Gb/s data-rate and supply voltage of 1.35 V.
In biological domain, there exist a variety of protein analysis databases which have their own meaning toward the same target of protein. If we integrate these scattered heterogeneous data efficiently, we can obtain useful information which otherwise cannot be found from each original source. Reflecting the characteristics of biological data, each data source has its own syntax and semantics. If we describe these data through RDF(S) models, one of the Semantic Web standards, we can achieve not only syntactic but also semantic integration. In this paper, we propose a new concept of integration layer based on the RDF unified schema. As a conceptual model, we construct a unified schema focusing on the protein information; as a representational model, we propose a technique for the wrappers to aggregate necessary information from the relevant sources and dynamically generate RDF instances. Two example queries show that our integration layer succeeds in processing the integrated requests from users and displaying the appropriate results.

Since concrete is an inhomogeneous material consisting of larger aggregates and sand embedded in a cement paste matrix, it relatively shows a complex failure mechanism. In order to assure the reliability of concrete structure. microscopic fracture behavior and internal damage progress of concrete under the loading should be fully understood. In this study, an acoustic emission(AE) technique has been used to clarify microscopic failure mechanism and their corresponding AE signal characteristics of concrete under three-point bending test. In addition 2-dimensional AE source location has been performed to monitor the progress of an internal damage and the successive crack growth behavior during the loading. The relationship between AE signal characteristics and microscopic fracture mechanism is discussed.
