  • In this study, the strength properties of NHL based mortar with blending basalt fiber were investigated. In the first step, it was evaluated that physical properties of NHL based mortar according to mixing method of four types of basalt fiber and then mixing method of one type was selected. As a result of assessment, it showed that the physical properties with mixing method of dry blending were better than that of wet blending and mixing method that basalt fiber pre-mixed with NHL for 5 min in a blender was selected and water and aggregate were finally added. Secondly, the investigation of blending fiber length on the compressive and flexural strength for basalt fiber reinforced NHL based mortars was carried out. The compressive strength was decreased with adding fiber, and the flexural strength was increased more than plain mortar. In the case of adding 6 mm fiber, the compressive and flexural strength were improved more than that of others.

  • This paper attempts to measure the economic benefits of tap water quality improvement using a specific case study of Ulsan, one of the large cities in Korea. To this end, we apply the contingent valuation (CV) method by employing a one-and-one-half bounded spike dichotomous choice question format. We surveyed a randomly selected sample of 400 households in Ulsan and asked respondents questions in person-toperson interviews about how they would willing to pay for the program. Respondents overall accepted the contingent market and were willing to contribute a significant amount (1,611 won), on average, per household per month. This willingness varies according to individual characteristics such as education level and income. The aggregate value of the program in Ulsan amounts to approximately 8 billion won per year.

  • This paper double-bound dichotomous choice method as a contingent valuation methods is used to derive willingness to pay for the water quality at the Anyangcheon watershed. The linear random utility model show that value of improvement of the Anyangcheon watershed water quality is 4,930 won per house and month of the Seoul and Gyeong-gi area residents. There is no difference between Seoul and Gyeong-gi area residents. Respondents overall accepted the contingent market and were willing to contribute a significant amount (3,860 to 5,101 won), on average, per household per month. The aggregate value of the water quality improvement in the Anyangcheon watershed amounts to approximately 83.0 to 109.7 billion won per year. This study is expected to contribute to the decision-making process for policy-makers by providing useful methodological framework and quantitative information related to watershed improvement projects.

  • Drying shrinkage in the hardened cement is known to change in volume by decreasing the moisture content in the hardened body, and it is known that the higher the W / C and the higher the content of the paste, the larger the drying shrinkage. In the case of ECC, more drying shrinkage occurs compared to concrete, since it does not contain coarse aggregate. Since ECC is an important material for tensile performance, the effect of restrained tensile stress on mechanical tensile behavior should be considered. The purpose of this study is to analyze the effect of stress caused by restraint on the tensile behavior of ECC. The mechanical properties of the specimens were tested by uniaxial tension tests with different restraints. As a result, the difference of tensile behavior according to restraint stress was observed and the cause was analyzed.

  • The objective of this study is to examine the reproducibility for compressive strength development and mechanical properties of lightweight concrete made using bottom ash aggregates and foam(LWC-BF). Based on the mix proportions conducted by Ji et al., six identical mixes were prepared with different actual foam volume ratios from 0% to 25% and water-to-binder ratios from 25% to 30%. The presently measured properties, including initial slump, slurry density, compressive strength gains at different ages, splitting tensile strength, and modulus of rupture, were very close to those determined in the previous tests by Ji et al. Thus, the developed LWC-BF has a good potential in obtaining a reproducibility for compressive strength development and mechanical properties even though the troubles of mixing control owing to the addition of preformed foam.

CDI(Composite Drought Index)는 PDSI(Palmer Drought Index), ADI(Aggregate Drought Index), SWSI(Surface Water Supply Index)와 같은 다중지수의 개념을 착안하여 고안되었으며, 모든 가뭄 형태(농업적 수문학적 기상학적)와 관련된 강우량, 유출량, 정규식생지수(NDVI)를 변수로써 사용하였다.

  • The objective of this study is to propose a reliable stress-strain model in compression for lightweight concrete using bottom ash aggregates and air foam(LWC-BF). The slopes of the ascending and descending branches in the fundamental equation form generalized by Yang et al. were determined from the regression analyses of different data sets(including the modulus of elasticity and strains at the peak stress and 50% peak stress at the post-peak performance) obtained from 9 LWC-BF mixtures. The proposed model exhibits a good agreement with test results, revealing that the initial slope decreases whereas the decreasing rate in the stress at the descending branch increases with the increase in foam content. The mean and standard deviation of the normalized root-square mean errors calculated from the comparisons of experimental and predicted stress-strain curves are 0.19 and 0.08, respectively, for the proposed model, which indicates significant lower values when compared with those(1.23 and 0.47, respectively) calculated using fib 2010 model.

  • This study examines the ways to address environmental issues by utilizing activated loess to reduce the amount of cements that emit a large amount of carbon dioxide during the process of manufacturing, and by reusing the polysilicon sludge produced as a result of manufacturing polysilicon, one of the components for solar power generation panels. The findings of the experiment showed that the optimal replacement ratio of the polysilicon sludge is 20%, 35% for W/B, and 20% for the ratio of the fine aggregate addition. As it is deemed that utilizing the polysilicon sludge for reinforced concrete may lead to rebar corrosion due to the $CI^-$ contained in the sludge, it can be considered to use for unreinforced concrete or bricks.

  • Campylobacteriosis is a common cause of gastrointestinal disease. In this study, we suggest a general strategy of applying gold nanoparticles (AuNPs) in colorimetric biosensors to detect Campylobacter in chicken carcass. Polymerase chain reaction (PCR) was utilized for the amplification of the target genes, and the thiolated PCR products were collected. Following the blending of colloid AuNPs with PCR products, the thiol bound to the surface of AuNPs, forming AuNP-PCR products. The PCR products had a sufficient negative charge, which enabled AuNPs to maintain a dispersed formation under electrostatic repulsion. This platform presented a color change as AuNPs aggregate. It did not need additional time and optimization of pH for PCR amplicons to adhere to the AuNPs. The specificity of AuNPs of modified primer pairs for mapA from Campylobacter jejuni and ceuE from Campylobacter coli was activated perfectly (C. jejuni, p-value: 0.0085; C. coli, p-value: 0.0239) when compared to Salmonella Enteritidis and Escherichia coli as non-Campylobacter species. Likewise, C. jejuni was successfully detected from artificially contaminated chicken carcass samples. According to the sensitivity test, at least 15 ng/μL of Campylobacter PCR products or 1×103 CFU/mL of cells in the broth was needed for the detection using the optical method.

  • The need for sustainable waste management has intensified the focus on recycling prestressed concrete sleepers used in railways. Given their high volume and environmental impact at the end of their service life, finding efficient recycling methods is crucial. This study explores current recycling approaches, particularly mechanical techniques, evaluating their advantages, limitations, and economic feasibility. Finally, an example of mechanical recycling was performed. The analysis results of the resulting recycled aggregates are suggested. Then, the non-cement concrete mixtures with recycled aggregates were designed, and their strength development was analyzed.
