  • Ultrastructural changes of Entamoeba histolytica, a concomitant strain YS-9, which was treated in the immune serum was examined. The amoebae in the serum became immobilized state from about 30 minutes of the treatment and recovered at about 60-90 minutes. In the cells of control group, helix structures were scattered throughout the cytoplasm. The particles comprising the helix structure averaged 20 nm in diameter. At the beginning stage of the immobilization, helical aggregates(chromatoid body) which associated with vacuoles appeared abundantly in the cytoplasm, but gradually tended to aggregate along peripheral region of the cell, specially in intactly immobilized state. Each parallel array of aggregates measured about 45 nm in width. When the cells became remobilize, pseudopodia appeared again, but helical aggregates disappeared and numerous helix structures were observed in the cell periphery. Distribution of glycogen particles showed no change, and acid phosphatase activities were seen in both the immobilized and the control group. The reaction was markedly noticed in the vacuoles.

  • Addition of nano-$SiO_2$ (NS) to geopolymer composites has been studied through measurement of compressive strengths, FTIR and XRD analysis. Alumino-silicate materials are coarse aggregate included waste concrete and demolished walls with its cementing binder, cement kiln dust (CKD) used and can possess a pronouncing activation for the geopolymer reaction resulting from the high alkali contents within. Materials prepared at water/binder ratios in a range of 0.30: 0.40 under curing of $40^{\circ}C$ and 100% Relative Humidity (R.H.), while the used activator is sodium hydroxide in the ratio of 2 wt. %. First, CKD is added in the ratio from 10 up to 50 wt., %, and the demolished walls was varied depending on the used CKD content, while using constant ratio of waste concrete (40 wt., %). Second step, depending on the optimum CKD ratio resulted from the first one (40 wt. %), so the control geopolymer mix composed of cement kiln dust, demolished walls and waste concrete in the ratio (40:20:40, wt %). Nano-silica partially replaced waste concrete by 1 up to 8%. Results indicated that, compressive strengths of geopolymer mixes incorporating nano-silica were obviously higher than those control one, especially at early ages and specially with 3%NS.

  • This article investigates the problem of distributed channel selection in opportunistic spectrum access networks from a perspective of interference minimization. The traditional physical (PHY)-layer interference model is for information theoretic analysis. When practical multiple access mechanisms are considered, the recently developed binary medium access control (MAC)-layer interference model in the previous work is more useful, in which the experienced interference of a user is defined as the number of competing users. However, the binary model is not accurate in mathematics analysis with poor achievable performance. Therefore, we propose a real-valued one called stochastic MAC-layer interference model, where the utility of a player is defined as a function of the aggregate weight of the stochastic interference of competing neighbors. Then, the distributed channel selection problem in the stochastic MAC-layer interference model is formulated as a weighted stochastic MAC-layer interference minimization game and we proved that the game is an exact potential game which exists one pure strategy Nash equilibrium point at least. By using the proposed stochastic learning-automata based uncoupled algorithm with heterogeneous learning parameter (SLA-H), we can achieve suboptimal convergence averagely and this result can be verified in the simulation. Moreover, the simulated results also prove that the proposed stochastic model can achieve higher throughput performance and faster convergence behavior than the binary one.

  • This paper deals with the problem of unfairness among uplink TCP (Transmission Control Protocol) flows associated with frame aggregation employed in IEEE 802.11n WLANs (Wireless Local Area Networks). When multiple stations have uplink TCP flows and transmit TCP data packets to an AP (Access Point), the AP has to compete for channel access with stations for the transmission of TCP ACK (acknowledgement) packets to the stations. Due to this contention-based channel access, TCP ACKs tend to be accumulated in the AP's downlink buffer. We show that the frame aggregation in the MAC (Medium Access Control) layer increases TCP ACK losses in the AP and leads to the serious unfair operation of TCP congestion control. To resolve this problem, we propose the TAC (TCP ACK Compression) mechanism operating at the top of the AP's interface queue. By exploiting the properties of cumulative TCP ACK and frame aggregation, TAC serves only the representative TCP ACK without serving redundant TCP ACKs. Therefore, TAC reduces queue occupancy and prevents ACK losses due to buffer overflow, which significantly contributes to fairness among uplink TCP flows. Also, TAC enhances the channel efficiency by not transmitting unnecessary TCP ACKs. The simulation results show that TAC tightly assures fairness under various network conditions while increasing the aggregate throughput, compared to the existing schemes.

  • This research is primarily intended to investigate the potential of estimating green space threshold in terms of total volume control using degradation trends of green space derived from remote sensing and GIS. An empirical study for a case study site was conducted to demonstrate how a standard remote sensing and GIS technology can be used to assist in estimating the total control volume for green space in terms of area-wide information, spatial resolution and change detection etc. Guidelines for a replicable methodology are presented to provide a strong theoretical basis for the standardization of factors involved in the estimation of the green space threshold; the meaningful definition of land mosaic, redefinition of degradation trends for green space. It was demonstrated that the degradation trends of green space could be used effectively as an indicator to restrict further development of the sites since the visual maps generated from remote sensing and GIS can present area-wide visual evidences by permanent record. It is anticipated that this research output could be used as a valuable reference to support more scientific and objective decision-making in introducing aggregate control of green space.

  • Networks often evolve to provide a host with multiple access points to the Internet. In this paper, we propose a transport layer load distribution mechanism utilizing the multiple network interfaces simultaneously. We specifically propose an extension of Stream Control Transmission Protoco1 (SCTP) to have load sharing over multiple network interfaces. We named the particular service provided by the Proposed load sharing mechanism to be LS (Load Sharing) mode service. LS mode service is based on the following four key elements: (i) the separation of flow control and congestion control, (ii) congestion window based striping, (iii) redundant packet retransmission for fast packet loss recovery, (iv) a novel mechanism to keep track of the receiver window size with the SACKS even if they arrive out-of-order. Through simulations, it is shown that the proposed LS mode service can aggregate the bandwidth of multiple paths almost ideally despite of the disparity in their bandwidth. When a path with a delay of 100% greater is utilized as the second path, the throughput is enhanced about 20%.

  • Recently, the control of pore-characteristics of nano-porous materials has been studied extensively because of their unique applications, which includes size-selective separation, gas adsorption/storage, heterogeneous catalysis, etc. The most widely adopted techniques for controlling pore characteristics include the utilization of pillar effect by metal oxide and of templates such as zeolites. More recently, coordination polymers constructed by transition metal ions and bridging organic ligands have afforded new types of nano-porous materials, porous metal-organic framework(porous MOF), with high degree and uniformity of porosity. The pore characteristics of these porous MOFs can be designed by controlling the coordination number and geometry of selected metal, e.g transition metal and rare-earth metal, and the size, rigidity, and coordination site of ligand. The synthesis of porous MOF by the assembly of metal ions with di-, tri-, and poly-topic N-bound organic linkers such as 4,4'-bipyridine(BPY) or multidentate linkers such as carboxylates, which allow for the formation of more rigid frameworks due to their ability to aggregate metal ions into M-O-C cluster, have been reported. Other porous MOF from co-ligand system or the ligand with both C-O and C-N type linkage can afford to control the shape and size of pores. Furthermore, for the rigidity and thermal stability of porous MOF, ring-type ligand such as porphyrin derivatives and ligands with ability of secondary bonding such as hydrogen and ionic bonding have been studied.

  • Iron oxide (Fe2O3) nanoclusters exhibit significant potential in the biomedical and pharmaceutical fields due to their strong magnetic properties, stability in solutions, and compatibility with living systems. They excel in magnetic separation processes, displaying high responsiveness to external magnetic fields. In contrast to conventional Fe2O3 nanoparticles that can aggregate in aqueous solutions due to their ferrimagnetic properties, these nanoclusters, composed of multiple nanoparticles, maintain their magnetic traits even when scaled to hundreds of nanometers. In this study, we develop a simple method using solvothermal synthesis to precisely control the size of nanoclusters. By adjusting precursor materials and reducing agents, we successfully control the particle sizes within the range of 90 to 420 nm. Our study not only enhances the understanding of nanocluster creation but also offers ways to improve their properties for applications such as magnetic separation. This is supported by our experimental results highlighting their size-dependent magnetic response in water. This study has the potential to advance both the knowledge and practical utilization of Fe2O3 nanoclusters in various applications.

  • Although set accelerating agents are used generally in New Austrian Tunneling Method, the standards for test methods and quality of set accelerating agents are not prescribed domestically. In this study, the proprieties of the various standards and the characteristics of set accelerating agents for shotcrete were evaluated. The alkali contents of set accelerating agents based on silicate, aluminate and cement were higher than those of alkali-free ones. From the result, it is thought that the quality control of aggregate should be enhanced and that the number of test cycle of alkali-aggregate reaction should be increased. The setting times of cement paste with set accelerating agents based on silicate and alkali-free ones were different largely with mixing methods. Compressive strength of mortar with set accelerating agents based on silicate, aluminate and cement at one day satisfied the specifications of Korea Concrete Institute. However, the strength ratio compared to control mix at 28 days showed as $50{\~}65\%$ except for the alkali-free set accelerating agents. As a results of setting time and strength test, the establishment of domestic standards that can reflect the characteristics of materials and construction methods of tunnels and that can increase quality of set accelerating agents is required immediately.
