  • As the installation of solar panel accelerates, so does the number of solar panels reaching their end-of-life (EOL). However, the EOL solar panels is becoming a concern, as they contain potentially hazardous materials and are not easily recycled. Coping strategies such as effective collection, disposal, and recycling methods will be important to manage the growing number of EOL solar panels in the coming years. Therefore, many studies have focused on the development of EOL solar panel recycling technology. One recycling technology for EOL solar panels applicable to the construction field is the application of extracted tempered glass from EOL solar panels as construction materials. This study summarized the EOL solar panel disassembly technology and evaluated the mechanical properties of mortar using extracted tempered glass as fine aggregate. The results showed that when tempered glass was used as a fine aggregate in mortar, the compressive strength, flexural strength, and macro pores in the 1-3 ㎛ with 200-300 ㎛ range were affected, regardless of the disassembly technology of EOL solar panels. Especially, we found that the mechanical performance of mortar using chemically treated tempered glass was noticeably decreased due to changes in the chemical composition of the extracted tempered glass resulting from the removal of K2O and CuO due to chemical reactions. Meanwhile, it was found that when fly ash was used as a binder, the reduction of mechanical performance could be alleviated.

  • Excavation works on stream beds have been done for various reasons including aggregate collection, sediment dredging, bridge constructions, or laying pipes under the ground. These activities may cause significant loadings of SS (suspended solids) resulting in water pollution and other detrimental effects to the surrounding environment. This research investigates application potential of a fickian diffustion model, derived from two dimensional advection-diffusion equation through some simplifying assumptions, as a planning tool for the estimation of SS loadings from excavation works and evaluation fo pollution prevention measures in case that sophisticated numerical simulation models are not applicable due to various practical reasons. Through a case study of the Juncheon stream in the Donghae City on the Kangwondo Province, this study demonstrates applicability of the fickian diffustion model as a practical method for the preliminary estimation of Ss loadings from excavation works and evaluation of performance of fabrics made of synthetic fiber for the reduction of downstream SS concentration with deficient field data.

  • This paper addresses issues to efficiently collect and aggregate data of sources within a local and adjacent region in geographic routing for wireless sensor networks. We first introduce the concept of a local sink which collects and aggregates data form source nodes in the region and delivers the aggregated data to a global sink. We also design a model to determine an optimal location of the local sink and propose a mechanism to collect data through the local sink. Simulation results show that the proposed mechanism with the local sink is more efficient in terms of the energy and the data delivery ratio than the existing mechanism without the local sink in a geographic routing.

  • Demand analyses often assume perfect substitution and some level of aggregation before analysis and data collection. Earlier works on this subject are carried out in the context of ordinary demand systems. However, perfect substitution is a degenerate special case in the systems and it is much more easily handled in a system of marginal value functions and no previous analysis has used the marginal value functions to test for perfect substitution and make possible aggregation with prior restrictions. In this article, we present the empirical results on a system of marginal value functions in fisheries and pose testable results of perfect substitution and aggregation. The contribution of this article is new establishment of a set of restrictions implying perfect substitutability among all commodities and the application to the problem of commodity aggregate. A system of marginal value functions is estimated in fisheries and its implication of perfect substitution is reasonably drawn.

  • Today, the Internet of Things is used in many places, including homes, industrial sites, and hospitals, to give us convenience. Many services generate new value through real-time data collection, storage and analysis as devices are connected to the network. Many of these fields are creating services and applications that utilize sensors and communication functions within IoT devices. However, since everything can be hacked, it causes a huge privacy threat to users who provide data. For example, a variety of sensitive information, such as personal information, lifestyle patters and the existence of diseases, will be leaked if data generated by smarwatches are abused. Development of IoT must be accompanied by the development of security. Recently, Differential Privacy(DP) was adopted to privacy-preserving data processing. So we propose the method that can aggregate health data safely on smartwatch platform, based on DP.

  • In this study, we investigated the water quality and fish community of the Gudam Wetland, a riverine wetland in the middle-upper reaches of the Nakdong River, during March-October 2020. The main results were as follows: average annual flow rate: 45.0±23.7 m3/s, flow velocity: 0.4±0.3 m/s, water depth: 1.4±0.4 m, water temperature: 17.5±0.8℃, pH: 7.8±0.2, electrical conductivity: 121.6±19.0 ㎲/cm, dissolved oxygen concentration: 11.4±0.9 mg/L, suspended solids concentration: 3.8±2.0 mg/L, and the water quality was classified as Ia (very good). A total of 754 individual fish belonging to 4 orders, 7 families, and 19 species were investigated. Cyprinidae was the dominant group, with 13 species. The dominant species was Zacco platypus (39.3%), followed by Pseudogobio esocinus (17.5%). There were 8 (42.1%) endemic Korean species and 1 exotic species, Micropterus salmoides. Four species were carnivores, six were insectivores, and nine were omnivores. Regarding tolerance to environmental changes, 6 species were tolerant, 11 had intermediate tolerance, and 2 were sensitive. Fish community analysis revealed dominance of 0.57, diversity of 2.04, evenness of 0.69, and richness of 2.72, indicating a diverse and stable fish community. The fish assessment index showed that the assessment class was B (average 62.5), which was higher than that of major streams of the Nakdong River (class C). For sustainable conservation of the Gudam Wetland, management strategies such as minimizing aggregate collection and preventing inflow of non-point pollutants are required.

  • In this research, the microwave oven drying method was investigated as a potential accurate testing approach for determining the water content of fresh concrete. To do so, water content estimation formulas employed in three prominent oven drying test methods were selected, and the calculation principles for each equation, along with potential error factors arising during the actual testing process, were considered. Moreover, a concrete test was conducted to validate the possible error factors. Consequently, it was confirmed that estimation errors in the water content of fresh concrete can occur due to sample deviations arising during the wet screening process for creating mortar specimens or deviations in the coarse aggregate sampling quantity during the sample collection process.

  • This study describes consumers' movie choices in conjunction with other group members and attempts to reassess the effect of the online word of mouth (WOM) source in a joint decision context. The tendency of many people to go to movies in groups has been mentioned in previous literature but there is no modeling research that studies movie choice from the group decision perspective. We found that ignoring the group movie-going perspective can result in a misunderstanding, especially underestimation of genre preference and the impact of the WOM variables. Most of the studies to measure online WOM effects were done at the aggregate level, and the role of online WOM variables(volume vs valence) is mixed in the literature. We postulate that group-level analysis might offer insight to resolve these mixed understanding of WOM effects in the literature. We implemented the study via a random effect model with group-level heterogeneity. Romance, drama, and action were selected as genre variables; valence and volume were selected as online WOM variables. A choice-based conjoint survey was used for data collection and the models was estimated via Bayesian MCMC method. The empirical results show that (i) both genre and online WOM are important variables when consumers choose movies, especially as group, and (ii) the WOM valence effect are amplified more than the volume effect does as individuals are engaged in group decision. This research contributes to the literature in several ways. First, we investigate movie choice from a group movie-going perspective that is more realistic and consistent with the market behavior. Secondly, the study sheds new light on the WOM effect. At group-level, both valence and volume significantly affect movie choices, which adds to the understanding of the role of online WOM in consumers' movie choice.
