Evidence on the effect of $O_2$ reduction or current passage on the microstructure and morphology of the LSM and Ni-YSZ electrodes in solid oxide fuel cells. The microstructures of the electrodes were characterized as plate-like agglomerates. Current of $0.1\;A/cm^2$, $0.2\;A/cm^2$, $0.3\;A/cm^2$, at $800^{\circ}C$ were passed for 3 h. Then, we observed the cell structure and measured the cell performance before and after the experiment. There are changed with the load condition. The TPB of the cell increased when the cell structure changed. In particular, the decrease in activation loss is apparent as load increased. As a result, cell performance improved, and we confirmed that a optimal load condition existed.

The micron or nano-sized lysozyme as a model protein drug was prepared using solution enhanced dispersion by supercritical fluid (SEDS) process at various conditions (e.g., solvent, temperature and pressure) to investigate the feasibility of pulmonary protein drug delivery. The lysozyme particles prepared were characterized by laser diffraction particle size analyzer, scanning electron microscopy (SEM) and powder X-ray diffractometry (PXRD). The biological activity of lysozyme particles after/before SEDS process was also examined. Lysozyme was precipitated as spherical particles. The precipitated particles consisted of 100 - 200 nm particles. Particle size showed the precipitates to be agglomerates with primary particles of size $1\;-\;5 \;{\mu}m$. The biological activity varied between 38 and 98% depending on the experimental conditions. There was no significant difference between untreated lysozyme and lysozyme after SEDS process in PXRD analysis. Therefore, the SEDS process could be a novel method to prepare micron or nano-sized lysozyme particles, with minimal loss of biological activity, for the pulmonary delivery of protein drug.

Tetraethoxysilane(TEOS) as a silica precursor and hydrochloric acid as an acid catalyst have been used in a surfactant-template synthesis of micrometer-sized mesoporous silica microspheres based on the macroemulsion technique. Increase in the concentration of tetraethoxysilane of the reaction mixture has a serious destructive effect on the particle shape and pore structure. As the acid concentration increases, relatively small microspheres are formed without destroying their spherical morphology of the particles as well as the pore structures. However, due to the attractive interaction between particles in an acidic condition, strong silica agglomerates are formed, and therefore are subject to a post-ultrasonic treatment to separate into an individual single particle.
Many plants have been improved to adapt the target of the biological treatment processes changed from organics to nutrients since the water quality criteria of effluent was reinforced and included T-N and T-P for the municipal wastewater treatment plant. To meet the criteria of T-N and T-P, the conventional biological reactor such as aeration tank in activated sludge system is changed to the BNR (biological nutrient removal) processes, which are typically divided into three units as anaerobic, anoxic and oxic tank. Therefore, the solid separation process should be redesigned to fit the BNR processes in case of the application of the DAF (dissolved air flotation) process as an alternatives because the solid-liquid separation characteristics of microbial flocs produced in the BNR processes are also different from that of activated sludge system as well. The results of this study revealed that the microbial floc of the anaerobic tank was the hardest to be separated among the three steps of the unit tanks for the BNR processes. On the contrary, the oxic tank was best for the removal efficiency of nutrients as well as suspended solid. In addition, the removal efficiency of nutrients was much improved under the chemical coagulation treatment though coagulation was not indispensable with a respect to the solid separation. On the other hand, in spited that the separation time for the microbial floc from the BNR processes were similar to the typical particles like clay flocs, over $2.32{\times}10^3$ ppm of air volume concentration was required to keep back the break-up of the bubble-floc agglomerates.
The microparticles of 2-hydroxypropyl-${\beta}$-cyclodextrin (HP-${\beta}$-CD) were prepared using aerosol solvent extraction system (ASES) by employing supercritical carbon dioxide as an antisolvent, The effects of various process parameters such as temperature, pressure, solution concentration and solution flow rate on the formation of HP-${\beta}$-CD microparticles were investigated. The HP-${\beta}$-CD microparticles prepared by the ASES process were observed to consist of agglomerates of nano-sized (50-200 nm) particles. When an aqueous solution of ethanol was used as a solvent for HP-${\beta}$-CD, the HP-${\beta}$-CD particles were found to be spherical in shape and to become larger as the water content increased. It was confirmed that the micronization of HP-${\beta}$-CD using the ASES process could enhance the inclusion efficiency of ibuprofen/HP-${\beta}$-CD complexes significantly.
The physical properties and microstructural changes with heat-treatment of opacified silica aerogels doped by TiO2 were investigated. Monolithic SiO2-TiO2 aerogels were prepared by supercritical drying (25$0^{\circ}C$, 1250 psig) of wet gel obtained by adding titanium isopropoxide to prehydrolyzed TEOS-isopropanol solutions. The density and the porosity of SiO2-10 mol% TiO2 aerogels were 0.23 g/㎤ and 90%, respectively. During supercritical drying, the linear shrinkage of aerogels increased with increase in the titanium content an TiO2 was transformed to the anatase phase as well as particls agglomerates led to TiO2 clusters of 100~800 nm dispersed homogeneoulsy in the silica matrix. The IR transmittance of opacified silica aerogels was very low in the region of wavelengths below 8 ${\mu}{\textrm}{m}$ compared with pure silica aerogels and SiO2-TiO2 aerogels showed the high thermal stability of microstructures up to $600^{\circ}C$.
The effect of the mixing method on the characteristics of hybrid-structure W powder with nano and micro sizes is investigated. Fine $WO_3$ powders with sizes of ${\sim}0.6{\mu}m$, prepared by ball milling for 10 h, are mixed with pure W powder with sizes of $12{\mu}m$ by various mixing process. In the case of simple mixing with ball-milled $WO_3$ and micro sized W powders, $WO_3$ particles are locally present in the form of agglomerates in the surface of large W powders, but in the case of ball milling, a relatively uniform distribution of $WO_3$ particles is exhibited. The microstructural observation reveals that the ball milled $WO_3$ powder, heat-treated at $750^{\circ}C$ for 1 h in a hydrogen atmosphere, is fine W particles of ~200 nm or less. The powder mixture prepared by simple mixing and hydrogen reduction exhibits the formation of coarse W particles with agglomeration of the micro sized W powder on the surface. Conversely, in the powder mixture fabricated by ball milling and hydrogen reduction, a uniform distribution of fine W particles forming nano-micro sized hybrid structure is observed.
People could not imagine living without tab water. However, the water filtering process at a purification plant used to produce tab water creates tons of sludge, which is generally wasted. This sludge waste consists of (1) mineral elements, such as sand, (2) organic materials, and (3) a coagulant, which agglomerates the two. As an enormous amount of sludge waste is generated every year, numerous studies have been carried out to identify how to deal with this problem. Currently, however, most of the sludge waste is directly discarded in landfills. In the present study, water-purified sludge waste received a heat treatment at $1300^{\circ}C$ and was then ground into particles to be used as a ceramic material. Next, the resultant particles were compounded with chamotte substitutes to produce grogged clay that is suitable for wheel-throwing ceramics. Consequently, the plasticity of the sludge waste decreased as the content of calcination increased. Thus, it is considered that wheel throwing is available only up to PBF-3. Thus, it is available for wheel throwing and has a high strength of 864 $kgf/cm^2$ with less than 0.2 percent of porosity and absorption ratio were displayed in PBF-2 at $1280^{\circ}C$ with 20 percent of calcination from the purified sludge. Therefore, the PBF-2 body produced in this study was considered to be capable of replacing grogged clay in the market.
A wet-chemical route was utilized to obtain nanosized crystalline goethite ($\alpha$-FeOOH) particle, which was known as an oxidation catalyst in reducing carbon monoxide (CO) and dioxine during incineration. A cost-effective $FeSO_4{\cdot}7H_2O$ was used as starting raw material and a successive process of hydrolysis-oxidation was utilized as synthetic method. The effects of the initial $Fe^{2+}$ concentration, hydrolysis time and oxidation period on the crystalline phase and particle characteristics were systematically investigated by X-Ray Diffraction (XRD), Scanning Electron Microscopy (SEM) and BET analyses. It was found that the spindle-shaped crystalline $\alpha$-FeOOH particle with the width of 70 nm and the length of 200 nm could be obtained successfully when the initial concentration of 1.5 M, hydrolysis time of 4h, and oxidation period of 10 h, respectively. In addition, it was observed that the spindle-shaped $\alpha$-FeOOH particle consisted of nano-sized primary crystallites of $30\~50\;nm$, which were de-agglomerated into individual particle and successively reagglomerated into spherical or irregular-shaped agglomerates beyond certain periods in the hydrolysis and oxidation process.
The hydrogen reduction behavior of $MoO_3-CuO$ powder mixture for the synthesis of homogeneous Mo-20 wt% Cu composite powder is investigated. The reduction behavior of ball-milled powder mixture is analyzed by XRD and temperature programmed reduction method at various heating rates in Ar-10% $H_2$ atmosphere. The XRD analysis of the heat-treated powder at $300^{\circ}C$ shows Cu, $MoO_3$, and $Cu_2MoO_5$ phases. In contrast, the powder mixture heated at $400^{\circ}C$ is composed of Cu and $MoO_2$ phases. The hydrogen reduction kinetic is evaluated by the amount of peak shift with heating rates. The activation energies for the reduction, estimated by the slope of the Kissinger plot, are measured as 112.2 kJ/mol and 65.2 kJ/mol, depending on the reduction steps from CuO to Cu and from $MoO_3$ to $MoO_2$, respectively. The measured activation energy for the reduction of $MoO_3$ is explained by the effect of pre-reduced Cu particles. The powder mixture, hydrogen-reduced at $700^{\circ}C$, shows the dispersion of nano-sized Cu agglomerates on the surface of Mo powders.
