Purpose: The purpose of this study was to identify the effect of meridian acupressure on constipation in bed-ridden aged inpatients. Methods: The research design was a non-synchronized non-equivalent control group pretest-posttest design. The subjects consisted of 28 bed-ridden aged inpatients. Meridian acupressure was administered to the experimental group at 30 minutes before breakfast every morning for two weeks. Each meridian was pressured for 10 seconds, 10 times. The frequency of defecation and stool form were examined every day. The data was analyzed by the $x^2$-test, Fisher's exact test, t-test and repeated measures ANOVA. Results: The experimental group given Meridian Acupressure had a higher frequency of defecation(F = 59.372, p = .000) and normal stool(F = 46.046, p = .000) than the control group. Conclusion: The results suggest that Meridian Acupressure was an effective method for the relief of constipation for bed-ridden aged inpatients. A follow -up research is needed to validate that other patients with constipation can use the Meridian Acupressure as a non-invasive nursing intervention instead of a laxative or enema.

The purpose of this study is to promote understanding of physical activity and metabolic syndrome in middle-aged adults and to provide basic data of interventions development for the prevention and management of metabolic syndrome. Using the 2020 data for Korea National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey, 1,786 middle-aged adults between the ages of 40 and 64 with no missing data were analyzed. As a result of the study, 56.5(±2.1)% of men and 52.9(±1.81)% of women were sufficient activity group among physical activity, and the proportion of men was higher than that of women, but it was not statistically significant(t=1.27, p=.207). The prevalence of metabolic syndrome was 38.9(±2.1%) of men and 25.4(±1.5)% of women, the prevalence of men was significantly higher than that of women(t=5.12, p<.001). Compared to the insufficient activity group, the sufficient activity group had a 0.71(95% CI: 0.57~0.88) times the risk of developing low HDL(high density lipoprotein)- cholesterol(p=.002), and this pattern was maintained even after adjusting for age, education level, body mass index, smoking status, and drinking status(p=.002). Based on the results of this study, a physical activity and metabolic syndrome risk group in middle-aged adults should be selected, and physical activity promotion program to improve high density lipoprotein-cholesterol among metabolic syndrome indicators should be developed.

Objective : The purpose of this study is to investigate the anti-oxidative effect of Jeokbaekhaogwanjoong-tang (JGT) distillate in spleen cells of aged rats. Methods : This experiment was performed using spleen cells of 10w, 52w, 72w old sprague dawley (SD) rats. The spleen cells of 10, 52, 72 weeks old rats were divided into three groups; DW group, Vit. C group, and JGT group. The cells of DW group were treated with distilled water. The cells of Vit.C group were treated with Vitamin C. And the cells of JGT group were treated with JGT distillate. After the treatment of DW, Vit.C, and JGT, the levels of superoxide dismutase (SOD), glutathione (GSH), nitric oxide (NO) and lipid peroxidation (MDA) were measured. Results : In the spleen cells of 72 weeks old rats, SOD activity was significantly increased in the JGT group compared to those in the DW group and the Vit.C group. In the spleen cells of 52 weeks old rats, GSH activity was significantly increased in the JGT group compared to the Vit.C group, and NO concentration was significantly decreased in the JGT group compared to the DW group and the Vit.C group. MDA concentration was not changed significantly in any cell groups by the treatment of JGT distillate. Conclusions : Jeokbaekhaogwanjoong-tang (JGT) distillate may have an anti-oxidative effects in the spleen cells of aged rats. Further investigation is needed for the anti-aging effect of JGT.
This study is analyzed for electrical fire danger by electric equipments through surveys of stable owners and the field investigation at 64 stable. Also, an experiment is performed to analyze the thermal characteristics of 4 types electric wiring according to the number of operating halogen warm lamp group and automatic waterer group in Beon-young stable in the Cheongwon location. The survey is done to investigate the occurrence of electrical fire, electric equipment, causes and dangerous equipment. As a result, halogen warm lamp group and automatic waterer group are found to have dangerous loads. In the field investigation, the mode of load capacity of the halogen warm lamp group and automatic waterer group was investigated. The mode of load capacity of halogen warm lamp group (over 3 years) is found 17A and that of the auto waterer group (10 years) is 16A. In this experiment, the halogen warm lamp group aged at least 3 years showed $109^{\circ}C$ while that aged less than 1 year appeared $83^{\circ}C$, showing the max gap of $26^{\circ}C$. The automatic waterer group aged 10 years showed $90^{\circ}C$ while that aged less than 1 year appeared $68^{\circ}C$, showing the max gap of $22^{\circ}C$. These findings indicate that the mode of load capacity needs to be considered in selecting and installing wiring for the electric equipment construction of halogen warm lamp group and automatic waterer group in stable.
Purpose: This study was conducted to explore the meaning and contents of high-quality aged care facilities and provide basic data for evaluation of service quality in such facilities. All interviews were recorded and transcribed as they occurred. Content analysis was used and debriefing notes were referred to in order to analyze the data. Results: Four themes of a high-quality aged care facility emerged from the analysis; 1) a place to rest for comfortable later years; 2) systematic value-based management; 3) providing professional care; 4) comprehensive service provision in response to diverse needs. Conclusion: The findings of the study showed the importance of client centered care and ethical mindset of providers, which had not been included in the existing quality evaluation programs. Based on these results, medical treatments, end-of-life care and more comprehensive and extended services including family care need to be provided in facilities to ensure good quality aged care.
Objectives : The purpose of this study is to investigate the effect of oral administration of Yongyukjowi-tang(YJT) on the immune activity in aged Sprague-Dawley rat(SD rat). Methods : SD rats were divided into three groups: Yongyukjowi-tang groups(YJT groups), distilled water groups(control groups) and Vitamin C groups(positive control groups) which were administered an oral dose(1ml/1day) to 6, 48 and 68 weeks old SD rats for four weeks. After four weeks, the number of total leukocyte, CD3+, CD4+, CD8+, and the level of cytokine (IL-2, IL-4, IL-10, IFN-${\gamma}$) were measured in spleen tissue of each SD rats. Results and Conclusions : 1) The number of total leukocyte significantly increased in 52 weeks old YJT group and 72 weeks old YJT group in comparison with those of the control group. 2) The number of CD3+ cell significantly increased in 72 weeks old YJT group in comparison with those of the control group and the positive control group. 3) The number of CD8+ cell significantly increased in 52 weeks old YJT group in comparison with those of the control group. 4) The level of IL-2 significantly increased in 72 weeks old YJT group in comparison with those of the control group and the positive control group. 5) The level of IL-4 significantly increased in 52 weeks old YJT group in comparison with those of the positive control group. These results suggest that oral administration of YJT has an effect on increase of immune activity in aged rat.
The purpose of this study was to investigate the association of homocysteine and antioxidant nutrients with obesity in Korean middle aged women. The study subjects included were middle-aged obese women (n=36) whose body mass index (BMI) was greater than $25kg/m^2$. A total of 36 participants were randomly divided into two groups. They were assigned to either the Nutritional Management and Exercise (NME) program or the Exercise Management (EM) program, which were both conducted for 3 months. We measured serum homocysteine, total cholesterol and HDL cholesterol levels of the participant. We also measured the dietary intakes of antioxidant nutrient, cholesterol, body weight, body mass index, blood pressure, and $VO_2$. At the end of both programs, please confirm this change. It was unclear when these measurements were shown to have decreased. The body weight and BMI of NME group were decreased compared to those of EM group. The serum total cholesterol levels of the participants in NME group were significantly decreased, in contrast to EM group. Also, serum homocysteine levels of NME group participants were decreased compared to EM group, but the difference was not statistically significant. In the NME group, there were significant differences in the change of dietary cholesterol and vitamin C intake. These results showed that participating NME program will continuously promote the healthy status of the middle aged obese women, compared to participating only in the EM program.
