In this study, we investigated the adsorption characteristics of methyl orange (MO), an anionic dye, on ginkgo shell-based activated carbon (AC). For this purpose, ACs (GS-1, GS-2, and GS-4) with different textural properties were prepared using ginkgo shells and potassium hydroxide (KOH), a representative chemical activating agent. The correlation between the textural characteristics of AC prepared and the mixing ratio of KOH was investigated using nitrogen adsorption/desorption isotherms. The MO adsorption equilibrium experiment on the prepared ACs was conducted under different pH (pH 3~11) and temperature (298~318 K) conditions, and the results were investigated by Langmuir, Freundlich, Sips and temperature-dependent Sips equations. The feasibility of the MO adsorption treatment process of the prepared AC was also investigated using the dimensionless Langmuir separation factor. The heterogeneous adsorption properties of MO for the prepared AC examined using the adsorption energy distribution function (AED) were closely related to the system temperature and textural characteristics of AC. The kinetic results of the batch adsorption performed at different temperatures can be satisfactorily explained by the homogeneous surface diffusion model (HSDM), which takes into account the external mass transfer, intraparticle diffusion, and active site adsorption. The relationship between the activation energy value obtained by the Arrhenius plot and the adsorption energy distribution function value was also investigated. In addition, the adsorption process mechanism of MO on the prepared AC was evaluated using Biot number.

Recently, our circumstances are threatened by an accident that leakage of under ground storage tank and illegal dumping of synthetic organic compounds at chemical plants and many treatment methods, Activated carbon adsorption, Ozonization, Membrane filtration and Photocatalystic oxidation, are developed to remove such a synthetic organic compounds. And it has reported that Activated carbon adsorption have a great removal efficiency to nondegradable matters and organic compounds which have a high molecular weight. Comparing with other adsorbents, Activated carbon adsorption have a worse efficiency when ad desorption speed is low. Thus improved type of adsorbents was invented and one of those is Activated Carbon Filter. The purpose of this study was getting information about adsorption characteristic phenol which can be applied Activated Carbon Fiber and Granular Activated Carbon. In detail, With comparing removal characteristics of phenol in the presence Humic Acid using Activated Carbon Fiber(ACF) and Granular Activated. Carbon(GAC), it is to certify an effective application of Activated Carbon Fiber. At the range of this study, Batch test, Isotherm adsorption test and Factorial analysis, following conclusion were obtained from the results of this study. Batch test was carried to know time of adsorption equilibrium. In this study about time of adsorption equilibrium by ACF was faster than GAC's, for developed micropore of ACF. From the result of phenol adsorption test, High removal rate of adsorption is shown at pH 5. The result of lsotherm adsorption test, it has represented that the Freundlich's isotherm is most suitable one in others, that a ACF's adsorption capacity is more excellent than GAC's. Adsorption of phenol exiting humic acid is decreased getting raised humic acid concentration. Since ACF's micropore is developed at this time, an effect of high molecular humic acid is lower. Factorial analysis was carried to know about Main effect which was injection dosage of adsorbent in the range of this study.

This study examined the $H_2S$ removal characteristics, such as breakthrough time, adsorption capacity, and adsorption rate of adsorbents between Zeolite 3A and DETOX in terms of the $H_2S$ inflow concentration and adsorption temperature. The adsorption capacity of Zeolite 3A increased with increasing mass flow rate of hydrogen sulfide($H_2S$) inflow, but the breakthrough time decreased. On the other hand, both the adsorption capacity and breakthrough time of DETOX decreased with increasing mass flow rate of $H_2S$ inflow. The adsorption capacity and breakthrough time of Zeolite 3A decreased with increasing adsorption temperature but those of DETOX increased. The adsorption capacity of DETOX was higher than that of Zeolite 3A by a factor of 2.5 - 16.4 because the collision frequency that overcomes the activation energy barrier increased with increasing adsorption temperature. For Zeolite 3A and DETOX, the adsorption rate of $H_2S$ increased with increasing mass flow rate of $H_2S$ inflow and adsorption temperature. The adsorption rate of $H_2S$ for Zeolite 3A was 4 times as much as that for DETOX. For the removal of $H_2S$ in biogas, DETOX had an advantage over Zeolite 3A because DETOX had a much longer breakthrough time and greater adsorption capacity in the temperature range of 308~318K than Zeolite 3A.

In this study, as a fundamental study for the remediation of the radionuclides-contaminated soil, the adsorption of cobalt, strontium, and cesium on natural soil and kaolin were experimently investigated and adsorption characteristics were evaluated by using several adsorption kinetic and isotherm models. The pseudo-first-order kinetic model (PFOM), pseudo-second-order kinetic model (PSOM), one-site mass transfer model (OSMTM), and two compartment first-order kinetic model (TCFOKM) were used to evaluate the kinetic data and the pseudo-second-order kinetic model was the best with good correlation. The adsorption equilibria of cobalt, strontium, and cesium on natural soil were fitted successfully by Redlich-Peterson and Sips models. For kaolin, the adsorption equilibria of cobalt, strontium, and cesium were fitted well by Redlich-Peterson, Freundlich, and Sips models, respectively. The amount of adsorbed radionuclides on natural soil and kaolin was in the order of cesium > strontium > cobalt. It is considered that these results could be useful to predicting the adsorption behaviors of radionuclides such as cobalt, strontium, and cesium in soil environments.
The objective of this study was to evaluate the removal efficiency of arsenite and arsenate using composite adsorbents with various mixing ratio of recycled aluminum oxides and $TiO_2$. From batch adsorption experiments, while the removal of As(III) was almost same with 4 different composite samples in the entire pH range, the removal of As(V) was substantially increased as the weight ratio of $TiO_2$ in composite samples reduced and showed anionic adsorption characteristics. Both adsorption of As (III) and As(V) on composite samples followed pseudo-second-order adsorption equation and C-3 showed faster reaction rate for the removal of arsenic. From the adsorption isotherm experiments, Langmuir isotherm explained well and the maximum adsorption capacities of arsenic were obtained with C-1.
This study evaluates the adsorption properties of Sr ions in an aqueous solution of the synthetic zeolite (Z-Y1) prepared using coal fly ash generated from a thermal power plant. In order to investigate the adsorption characteristics, the effects of various parameters such as the initial concentrations of Sr ion, contact time, and solution pH were investigated in a batch mode. The Langmuir and Redlich-Peterson model fitted the adsorption isotherm data better than the Freundlich model. The maximum adsorption capacity of Sr ions, as determined the Langmuir model, was 181.68 mg/g. It was found that by varying the Sr ion concentration, pH, and temperature, the pseudo-second-order kinetic model describes the adsorption kinetics of the Sr ion better than the pseudo-first-order kinetic model. The calculated thermodynamic parameters of ${\Delta}H^0$ and ${\Delta}G^0$ showed that the adsorption of Sr ions on Z-Y1 was occurred through a spontaneous and an endothermic reaction. We found that the adsorption of Sr ions by Z-Y1 was more affected by pH than by temperature and Sr ion concentration.
The feasibility of using volcanic ash for lead ion removal from wastewater was evaluated. The adsorption experiments were carried out in batch tests using volcanic ash that was treated with either NaOH or HCl prior to the use. Volcanic ash dose, temperature and initial Pb(II) concentration were chosen as 3 operational variables for a $2^3$ factorial design. Ash dose and concentration were found to be significant factors affecting Pb(II) adsorption. The removal of Pb(II) was enhanced with increasing volcanic ash dose and with decreasing the initial Pb(II) concentration. Pb(II) adsorption on the volcanic ash surface was spontaneous reaction and favored at high temperatures. Calculation of Gibb's free energy indicated that the adsorption was endothermic reaction. The equilibrium parameters were determined by fitting the Langmuir and Freundlich isotherms, and Langmuir model better fitted to the data than Freundlich model. BTV(base-treated volcanic ash) showed the maximum adsorption capacity($Q_{max}$) of 47.39mg/g. A pseudo second-order kinetic model was fitted to the data and the calculated $q_e$ values from the kinetic model were found close to the values obtained from the equilibrium experiments. The results of this study provided useful information about the adsorption characteristics of volcanic ash for Pb(II) removal from aqueous solution.
The removal characteristics of As and Se ions from aqueous solution by hexadecyl trimethyl ammonium bromide (HTMAB) modified anthracite (HTMAB-AT) were investigated under various conditions of contact time, pH and temperature. When the pH is 6, the zeta potential value of anthracite (AT) is -24 mV and on the other hand, the zeta potential value of the HTMAB-AT is +44 mV. It can be seen that the overall increase of about 60 mV. Increasing the (+) potential value indicates that the surface of the adsorbent had a stronger positive charge, so adsorption for the anion metal was increased. The isotherm data was well described by Langmuir and Temkin isotherm model. The maximum adsorption capacity was found to be 7.81 and 6.89 mg/g for As and Se ions from the Langmuir isotherm model at 298 K, respectively. The kinetic data was tested using pseudo first and pseudo second order models. The results indicated that adsorption fitted well with the pseudo second order kinetic model. The mechanism of the adsorption process showed that adsorption was dependent on intra particle diffusion model according to two step diffusion. The thermodynamic parameters(${\Delta}G^{\circ}$, ${\Delta}H^{\circ}$, and ${\Delta}S^{\circ}$) were also determined using the equilibrium constant value obtained at different temperatures. The thermodynamic parameters indicated that the adsorption process was physisorption, and also an endothermic and spontaneous process.
Laboratory experiments were conducted to examine the behavior of metalaxyl in environment which was used as pesticide in green soil of golf course and as functions of the characteristics of adsorption, desorption and degradation in soil texture and organic matter contents. Acid water containing metalaxyl was conducted to evaluate the effects on adsorption, desorption and degradation. The adsorption of metalaxyl played more significant role in organic contents than clay contents, and pH Increases more pH 2.5 than pH 5.6. The desorption of metalaxyl from contaminants soil decreased higher organic contents LS-soil than S-soil, but the desorption amount of metalaxyl increased more pH 5.6 than pH 2.5. The rate of degradation of metalaxyl in green soil environmental increased higher organic contents LS-soil than S-soil and decreased more pH 2.5 than pH 5.6. These results indicated that the behavior of metalaxyl of the green soil was affected the soil texture of the golf course. Increasing of organic contents, the adsorption amount of metalaxyl on soil increased. Moreover the decrease of the pH of solution increased adsorption amounts and decreased desorption amounts. As the results, the transportation of metalaxyl in soil decreased the acidic rates. The acidification of soil by the acid rain increased the adsorption amount of metalaxyl, but the degradation of metalaxyl decreased. Therefore, it is possible to sustain contamination in run-off the stream and ground water by residuals in soil.

In this study, the physicochemical characteristics and fluoride adsorption capacity of the bone char pyrolyzed at different temperatures; 200℃, 300℃, 350℃, 400℃, 500℃, 600℃, and 700℃ were investigated. Analytical studies of the synthesized bone char including; SEM-EDS, XRD, BET and FT-IR, showed the presence of hydroxyapatite(HAP), which is the main substance that adsorbs fluoride from aqueous solutions containing high fluoride concentrations. Bone char pyrolyzed from 350~700℃ specifically revealed that, the lower the temperature, the higher the fluoride adsorption capacity and vice versa. The loss of the fluoride adsorption function of HAP (OH- band in the FTIR analysis) was interpreted as the main reason behind this inverse correlation between temperature and fluoride adsorption. Bone char produced at 350℃ hence exhibited a fluoride adsorption capacity of 10.56 mgF/g, resulting in significantly higher adsorption compared to previous studies.
