The purpose of the study is to examine the effects of adolescents' psychosocial characteristics and parental communication patterns on suicidal ideation. Participants were 520 first- and second- year high-school students in the Seoul and Gyeonggi areas. Questionnaires included items on suicidal ideation, irrational beliefs, depression, hopelessness, and parental communication patterns. Data were statistically analyzed through a t-test, Pearson's correlation, multiple regression analysis, and stepwise multiple regression using SPSS for Win version 12.0. The major results were as follows: 1) Female adolescents had higher levels of irrational beliefs, depression, specific types of communication patterns from the father(placating) and suicidal ideation more than their male counterparts. The male adolescents showed more communication patterns from the father(blaming) than their female counterparts. 2) Depression, irrational beliefs, mothers' communication patterns (blaming), gender and hopelessness were significant predictors of adolescent suicidal ideation. 3) The adolescents' irrational beliefs had a mediating effect on the relationship between their suicidal ideation and dysfunctional parental communication.
This study investigated the effects of depression, anxiety, and impulsiveness on suicidal thoughts among adolescents with the goal of better understanding the psychological needs of adolescents and to provide them with more effective counseling and guidance. Participants for this study included 340 high school students in their first and second year living in large urban centers. Respondents answered a questionnaire that documented their experiences related to depression, anxiety, impulsiveness, and suicidal thoughts. Data analysis was performed using the means, standard deviations, correlation analysis, and multiple regression using the IBM SPSS 19.0 statistics program. The results were as follows. There was no statistically significant difference in anxiety and impulsiveness based on gender. However, female respondents demonstrated a higher rate of suicidal thoughts than male respondents. Second, in both sexes, comparative analysis between depression, anxiety, impulsiveness, and suicidal thoughts revealed that respondents with higher levels of depression and anxiety demonstrated elevated levels of suicidal thoughts. Impulsiveness demonstrated a correlation with suicidal thoughts only for female participants. Third, while depression and anxiety affected suicidal thoughts in both male and female respondents, impulsiveness did not affect suicidal thoughts, with depression having the strongest effect.
This study aimed to explore self-esteem influencing variables such as appearance stress, sex-role identity, and depression, in order to assess self-esteem standards for children and adolescents. It also investigated mediating effects of sex-role identity and depression on self-esteem. The study subjects were 2,511 elementary students and 2,958 middle school students, selected using the Korea Adolescence Panel Data. The data collected from interviews were subjected to descriptive statistical analysis, t test, Pearson's correlation and hierarchical multiple regression. The main results were as follows: Firstly, appearance stress and depression of female students were higher than those of male students. However, sex-role identity of male students was higher than those of female students. Difference in self-esteem was not statistically significant between male and female students (P > 0.05). Secondly, appearance stress was positively correlated to sex-role identity and depression, but negatively correlated to selfesteem. Thirdly, sex-role identity and depression had a mediating affect on self-esteem. Finally, variables affecting self-esteem of children and adolescents were appearance stress, men-role identity, and depression. In addition to these variables, women-role identity was a major factor for female students.
Objective: The purpose of this study was to confirm if there are gender differences in influences of parental support, control, and school life adjustment on suicidal ideation of adolescents and to examine the mediating effect of depression on the influences of independent variables on their suicidal ideation. Methods: This study comprised a total of 671 students in seventh and eighth grades in Seoul and Gyeonggi-do. The data were analyzed for frequency, average, and standard deviation, using the t-test, Pearson's correlation analysis, stepwise regression analysis, hierarchical multiple regression analysis, and the Sobel test. Results and Conclusion: First, significant differences among adolescents' gender were shown in fathers' psychological control, mothers' behavior control, and suicidal ideation. Second, in the case of male adolescents, all independent variables were found to have a full mediating effect on their suicidal ideation. Meanwhile, in the case of female adolescents, independent variables except for mothers' psychological control were found to have a full mediating effect on their suicidal ideation. Mothers' psychological control was found to have a partial mediating effect on suicidal ideation of adolescents for both genders.
Purpose: The purpose of this study is to demonstrate the mediating effect of happiness in the relationship between internet addiction, depression and suicidal ideation among adolescents from multicultural families. Methods: 1,065 adolescents from multicultural families who participated in the 16th (2020) Adolescent Health Behavior Survey were selected as the final subjects for the study, and were analyzed with descriptive statistics, independent t-test, ANOVA, Pearson's correlation coefficient, and stepwise multiple regression. Results: There was a fully mediating effect of happiness in the relationship between internet addiction and suicidal ideation of the adolescents from multicultural families (F=6.65, p<.001). There was a partial mediating effect of happiness in the relationship between depression and suicidal ideation of the adolescents from multicultural families (F=10.01, p<.001). Conclusion: To mitigate the suicidal ideation of adolescents from multicultural families, it is necessary to develop and apply a positive psychological treatment program that enhances happiness for adolescents from multicultural families who are experiencing internet addiction and depression.

The study findings are as follows 1. The hypothesis of the study, 'the higher the degree of perceived family support among adolescents, the lower the level of depression', was supported (r=-0.4469, p<.001). 2. Sociodrama can be recommended as an intervention program for parents raising adolescents receiving special education.
