  • International standards claim the best possible reliability in industrial manufacturing processes. This is also essential for the application with manual applicators. The application of adhesives with manual applicators is one of the most frequently used application techniques. The range of application reaches from the building of prototypes in the automobile industry over the use in single or small-batch manufacturing up to applications in crafts enterprises. Conventional manual applicators for adhesives and sealants don't fulfill the demands in international standards for the best possible reliability. Only the worker is able to control the quality and the quantity of the bond. A velocity-controlled manual applicator solves these restrictions. Special sensors and micro controllers calculate the flow-rate, the velocity and the location of the manual applicator. This leads to stable and repeatable application processes which are claimed in international standards. The location of the bond can be compared with the nominal value, so that it is possible to check the quality of the bond during application. Furthermore there is the potential to document the data of the manufacturing process.

  • Autoclaved Lightweight Concrete(ALC) features such as a high performance insulation, the fire resistance, the advantage of easy handing construction, and lightweight panels applied the curtain wall system. ALC materials are certified as non-toxic environmental and eco-friendly productions. But ALC external panels mixed with blast furnace slag pounder and silica fume have to be coated with a stucco compound or plaster because of resisting the ambient environment. This study is that mixing tests to evaluate a performance analysis of exterior paints to be make-up pigments(organic or inorganic) coated with panel surface. Testing compared by KS F 2476; flow test, KS F 2426; compression strength test, KS F 2762; bond strength test. In results, the case of the inorganic binder, ratio of alumina cement : anhydrite is 90:10 to 80:20 at the highest level of intensity. In the case of the organic binder, adhesive strength rating at surface of ALC, the pullout strength is below 0.5 $N/mm^2$ but the normal concrete is over 2.0$N/mm^2$. A contents ratio of EVA resin is more than 3% and then bond strength is effectively.

  • The purpose of this study investigated the effect of Au coating on adhesion between porcelain matrix and metal substructure interface. Titanium, Ni-Cr alloy and Co-Cr alloy are well known as proper metal for the dental restorations. The success of a porcelain fused to metal (PFM) restoration depends upon the quality of the porcelain-metal bond. However, adhesion between dental alloys and porcelain is related to diffusion of oxygen during ceramic firing. The excessive oxidized layers make hard adhesion between dental alloy and ceramic. Ni-Cr and Co-Cr specimens were divided into test and a control group and Titanium specimens were divided into three test groups and a control group. Each group had 20 specimens. The adhesion characteristics of porcelain and metal with Au coating layer and without Au coating layer were observed with scanning electron microscopy(SEM). The adhesion was evaluated by a biaxial flexure test and volume fraction of adherent porcelain was determined by SEM/EDS analysis. Result of this study suggest that Au coating layer is effective barrier to diffuse oxide layer completely protect non-precious alloys from oxidation during the porcelain firing. The SEM photomicrographs of cross-section specimens showed a smooth interface between Au coating layer and metals and porcelain which suggested proper chemical bonding, and no gap, porosity were observed. The mode of failure was mainly adhesive for Ti tested specimens, but mixed failures with adhesive and cohesive were observed in Ni-Cr and Co-Cr specimens. The adhesion between non-precious metals and porcelain would not be improved by Au coating agent. However, It is suggested that the continuous study is required further investigation and development.

  • The purpose of this study was to observe the resin infiltration pattern into dentin by various dentin bonding agents. Freshley extracted 36 sound human molars were used in this study. They were stored at $4^{\circ}C$ physiologic saline solution before experiment. All the teeth were cross-sectioned to expose dentin below about 3.0mm at the cusp tip and above 2.0mm at the cemento-enamel junction with Crystal Cutter (MC411 D, Maruto Co., Japan), and were made into specimens for this study (Fig. 1). The specimen experimental groups were divided into 9 groups by dentin surface treatment as following procedures: Group I: Treated with Gluma Cleanser followed by Gluma Primer and Sealer Group 2. Treated with Gluma Cleanser followed by Scotch bond 2 Adhesive Group 3: Treated with Gluma Cleanser followed by Tenure Solution A, Band Visar Seal Group 4: Treated with Scotchprep followed by Scotch bond 2 Adhesive Group 5: Treated with Scotchprep followed by Gluma Primer and Sealer Group 6: Treated with Scotch prep followed by Tenure Solution A, Band Visar Seal Group 7: Treated with Tenure Conditioner followed by Tenure Solution A, Band Visar Seal Group 8: Treated with Tenure Conditioner followed by Scotchbond 2 Adhesive Group 9: Treated with Tenure Conditioner followed by Gluma Primer and Sealer 27 specimens of 36 specimens were divided into 9 groups (Group 1-9), and were used for observation of resin tags. Remaining 9 specimens were divided into 3 groups (Group 1,4 and 7), and were used for observation of fractured dentin surfaces. Specimens to observe the resin tag were demineralized with 20% HCl for 14 hours, specimens to observe the fractured dentin surfaces were demineralized with 10% HCl for 3 minutes. All the specimens were gold-coated with Eiko ion coater (Eiko-engineering Co.), and observed under Scanning electron microscope (Hitachi S-2300) at 20 KV. The following results were obtained: 1. In group 1 treated with Gluma Cleanser, Gluma Primer, and Sealer, most resin tags were more than $100{\mu}m$. 2. In group 4 treated with Scotch prep and Scotchbond 2 Adhesive, most resin tags were about $10{\mu}m$. 3. In group 7 treated with Tenure conditioner, Tenure Solution A, B, and Visar Seal, most resin tags were about $10{\mu}m$ but occasionally resin tags were more than $100{\mu}m$. 4. In groups 2,3,5,6,8 and 9, the lengths of resin tags were inconsistent and the amount of resin tags were reduced.

  • The purpose of this study was to evaluate the contact angle made by 3 kinds of self etching primers (Clearfil SE Bond, AdheSE, and Tyrian) on dentin and to measure the microtensile bond strength of resin composite to dentin using these self-etching primers. Contact angle between each of 3 self etching primers and polished dentin surface was measured (n=30) by contact angle analyzer and the result was analyzed by One-way ANOVA. For the measurement of microtensile bond strength, polished dentin surface was treated with each of 3 self etching primers and dentin adhesives. Z-250 composite resin was built-up with a height of 5 mm on the adhesive-treated surface and light cured for 40s with a halogen light curing unit. Thereafter, each tooth was sectioned into slabs perpendicular to the bonded interface and trimmed (n=45). The microtensile bond strength was measured with universal testing machine and the result was analyzed with Kruskal-Wallis test. AdheSE group showed the highest contact angle followed by Clearfil SE group and Tyrian group (p<0.05). AdheSE group and Clearfil SE group showed significantly higher microtensile bond strength than Tyrian group (P<0.05).

  • The bond strengths of composite resin to tooth dentin vary with the methods of cavity preparation and surface treatment. Recent developments in techniques of dentinal surface treatment have renewed interest in microabrasive as a means of tooth preparation, The purpose of this study was to determine the effects of a new method of cavity preparation on the bond of composite resin to dentin. Freshly extracted 144 healthy human third molars were used in this study. The dentin surfaces prepared with #600 SiC abrasive paper were divided into control and air abrasion groups according to the method of dentin surface preparation using different combinations of delivery pressure, time, and acid etching. The shear bond strengths were measured after the composite resin (Clearfil Photo Bright) was bonded to prepared dentin surfaces by light-curing using a dentin bonding system (All-bond 2), In addition, the average surface roughness was measured to investigate the effect of differently prepared dentin surfaces on the shear bond strengths. The surface changes of prepared dentin and the debonded dentin surfaces were observed with SEM (S-2300, Hitachi Co., Japan). The following results from this-study were obtained ; 1. There was no significant difference of shear bond strengths according to the changes of delivery pressure and time. 2. The shear bond strengths were lower than the control in the air abraded-only groups, but those of the additional acid-etched groups were higher than the control. 3. The shear bond strengths to all air-abraded surfaces were increased by acid etching. 4. The correlation between shear bond strengths and surface roughness was not certain, although the mean surface roughness of all air-abraded surfaces has increased evidently while it has slightly decreased for additional acid etching. 5. On SEM examination, the dentinal tubules were almost occluded in the air abraded-only groups, but those were opened in the additional acid-etched groups. 6. The debonded surfaces were showed adhesive failure mode in the air abraded- only groups, while those were showed mainly the mixed and cohesive failure mode in the additional acid-etched groups. These results suggest that the layer produced during cavity preparation or surface treatment with air abrasion must be removed for maximum bond strength of composite resin to dentin.

  • The purpose of this study was to evaluate the effect of Er,Cr:YSGG laser irradiation with hypersensitivity mode on microtensile bond strength of composite resin. Twenty extracted permanent molars were randomly assigned to six groups, according to the irradiation of Er,Cr:YSGG laser, adhesive system (Optibond FL or Clearfil SE bond) and application time of etchant (15 sec or 20 sec). Then composite resin was build up on each conditioned surface. The restored teeth were stored in distilled water at room temperature for 24 h and twelve specimens for each group were prepared. All specimens were subjected to microtensile bond strength and the fracture modes were evaluated. Also, the prepared dentin surface and laser irradiated dentin surface were examined under SEM. The results were as follows: 1. The microtensile bond strength of laser irradiated group was lower than that of no laser irradiated group. 2. Regardless of laser irradiation, the microtensile bond strength of Optibond FL was higher than that of Clearfil SE bond. And the microtensile bond strength of 20 sec etching group was higher than that of 15 sec etching group when using Optibond FL. 3. The SEM image of laser irradiated dentin surface showed prominent peritubular dentin, opened dentinal tubules and no smear layer.

  • Statement of problem : Removable partial denture and complete denture often require denture base relines to improve the fittness against tissue-bearing mucosa because of the gradual change in edentulous ridge contour and resorption of underlyng bony structure. Self-curing hard reline resins offers the immediate and relatively inexpensive means to be recondition the surface of denture base directly However weak bond between denture base resin and reline material can harbor bacteria, promote staining, or result in complete separation of the two materials. Purpose : The purpose of this study was to evaluate the effect of denture cleansers on bond strength and surface hardness of reline resin to denture base resin Denture base resin beams($60.0{\times}15.0{\times}3.0mm$) were made with Lucitone 199. Material and methods : 10mm section was removed from the center of each specimen. The samples were replaced in the molds and the space of l0mm sections were packed with Tokuso Rebase reline material. The specimens were immersed in denture cleansers (Polident, Cleadent) and were evaluated after 1 week, 2 weeks, and 4 weeks. The bond strength and surface hardness of self-curing hard reline materials to heat-curing denture base resin were measured using an UTM (universal testing machine). Results and conclusion : 1) There was no significant difference of usage, kind, and denture cleaner by application time on the bonding strength of self-curing hard reline resin to denture base resin. 2) There was no significant difference of usage, kind, and denture cleaner by application time on the surface hardness, but the surface hardness showed decreasing tendency, as the time of immersion was extended. 3) The failure modes of the specimens was initially adhesive failure and finally cohesive failure of self-curing hard reline resin.
