Queen-bee and Mutant-bee Evolution for Genetic Algorithms

  • A new evolution method termed queen-bee and mutant-bee evolution is based on the previous queen-bee evolution [1]. Even though the queen-bee evolution has shown very good performances, two parameters for strong mutation are added to the genetic algorithms. This makes the application of genetic algorithms with queen-bee evolution difficult because the values of the two parameters are empirically decided by a trial-and-error method without a systematic method. The queen- bee and mutant-bee evolution has no this problem because it does not need additional parameters for strong mutation. Experimental results with typical problems showed that the queen-bee and mutant-bee evolution produced nearly similar results to the best ones of queen-bee evolution even though it didn't need to select proper values of additional parameters.

  • PON (Passive Optical Network) is an emerging local subscriber access architecture that provides more bandwidth and services to subscriber than DSL (Digital Subscriber Line and HFC (Hybrid-Fiber Coaxial) network. A PON is a point-to-multipoint optical network with no active elements in the signals' path from source to destination. Advantages of using PON for a subscriber access network include large coverage area, reduced fiber deployment, multicast and broadcast capabilities, reduced cost of maintenance (due to devices being passive), and ease of upgrades to higher bit rate or additional wavelengths. PON uses WDM (Wavelength Division Multiplexing) technique that transmits the downstream and upstream data at each different wavelength. For transmitting the CATV (Community Antenna television) service through PON network, we give out additional wavelength. This study shows the available TPS (Triple play service) architecture using CATV overlay EPON (Ethernet PON) architecture and analyzes the effects of EPON-based CATV transmission by measuring the power loss fur each wavelength and the power range of the available analog wavelength and RF.

Design of Sequential Circuit Using Built-In Self Test Method (Built-In Self Test 방식에 의한 순서회로의 설계)

  • In this paper, a design method for sequential circuit which is easy to have Built-in Self Test is kproposed using the functional advantages of multifunctional BILBO and LSSD. To achieve the hardware reduction, it is designed that a multifunctional BILBO has double operational functions of NLFSR and LFSR, when neccessary, and that test signal could be used as an input-output signal in the same line. By applying the proposed multifunctional BILBO to the sequential PLA, the test patterns and the additional circuit could be reduced in test operation and the propagation delay is vanished in normal operation, as we expected. Above them, the partitioned method for large scale sequential circuit is also suggested and it is observed that test patterns and additional circuit in them reduced by this method.

Self-poling Mechanism of CNT/PVDF Piezoelectric Composite Films Prepared by Spray Coating Method (스프레이 코팅법으로 제조된 CNT/PVDF 압전 복합막의 자기분극 메커니즘)

  • Carbon nanotubes (CNT) / polyvinylidene fluoride (PVDF) piezoelectric composite films for nanogenerator devices were fabricated by spray coating method. When the CNT/PVDF mixture solution passes through the spray nozzle with small diameter by the compressed nitrogen gas, electric charges are generated in the liquid by a triboelectric effect. Then randomly distributed ${\beta}$ phase PVDF film could be re-oriented by the electric field resulting from the accumulated electrical charges, and might be resulted in extremely one-directionally aligned ${\beta}$ phase PVDF film without additional electric field for poling. X-ray diffraction patterns were used to investigate crystal structure of the CNT/PVDF composite films. It was confirmed that they revealed extremely large portion of the ${\beta}$ phase PVDF crystalline in the film. Therefore we could obtain the poled CNT/PVDF piezoelectric composite films by the spray coating method without additional poling process.

Can Renewable Energy Replace Nuclear Power in Korea? An Economic Valuation Analysis

  • This paper studies the feasibility of renewable energy as a substitute for nuclear and energy by considering Korean customers' willingness to pay (WTP). For this analysis, we use the contingent valuation method to estimate the WTP of renewable energy, and then estimate its value using ordered logistic regression. To replace nuclear power and fossil energy with renewable energy in Korea, an average household is willing to pay an additional 102,388 Korean Won (KRW) per month (approx. US $85). Therefore, the yearly economic value of renewable energy in Korea is about 19.3 trillion KRW (approx. US $16.1 billion). Considering that power generation with only renewable energy would cost an additional 35 trillion KRW per year, it is economically infeasible for renewable energy to be the sole method of low-carbon energy generation in Korea.

Health Capacity to Work at Older Ages in South Korea: Estimates and Implications for Public Pension Policies

  • Health capacity to work for the elderly is an essential piece of information for designing social policies in an aging society. Here, we assess the health capacity to work of older men in South Korea and provide a cross-country comparison. Following the methodology proposed by Milligan and Wise (2012), which uses the cohort mortality rate as a proxy for overall health status, we quantify the additional employment capacity of current older men in reference to the mortality-employment relationship of a generation ago. Despite the high employment rate of older men in South Korea, we find substantial additional employment capacity among older men (those aged 55 or more) as of 2016 comparable in size to those found in other advanced countries. We also find evidence that older men are not merely capable of working but are also willing to work, and many of them are increasingly combining pension income and work. These findings suggest that labor supply disincentives for older men embedded in public pension systems in South Korea need to be thoroughly reexamined and adjusted accordingly lest they should inhibit the labor supply of older workers.

  • In the HDTV video codec, conventional the padding method of DEPA(DTV essential padding area) region is aimed at minimizing the redundant information to be transmitted. This article propose a method to transmit additional data by using DEPA region. The proposed method is effective for the channel and storage because it can reduce the amount of bits while preventing deterioration of image quality by inserting binary gray image blocks into the DEPA region. Additionally this algorithm can be used in various fields because it conforms to the standards of MPEG-2, ATSC, and DVB encoders.

  • Construction industry, which is a composite industry being performed by organic combination of various tasks, gives birth to a various of information in the stages of planning, designing, and maintenance management. In particular, the drawing information is broad in the scope of use because it contains all information about buildings as wall as bid, materials, contracts. Therefore, the management of drawing information security is one of the most important factors, which determines the success of failure of business. The major findings and result of this study are as follows to control the distributed drawing information in the collaboration environment. 1) Analysis for function and practical use of DRM in the construction industry. 2) Proposal for applications of DRM that can secure IFC model-based drawing information in the collaboration environment. 3) Extraction from additional IFC entities to apply DRM to part 21 physical files 4) Analysis for functions which are necessary in DRM application prototype system and development of the system. 5) Development IFC model-based DRM prototype system.

STEP-based Information Management of Steel Bridge Using ACIS Soild Modeler (ACIS 솔리드 모델러를 이용한 STEP기반의 강교량정보 운용체계)

  • This study presents a way to generate and manage engineering information by applying steel bridge information model with 3D shape to existing application program. ACIS solid modeling kernel is used to visualize 3D geometric shape of steel bridge on the AutoCAD program. The shape information of 3D solid model can be connected to structural design information of steel bridge by an application module based on information model. The application module for manipulating steel bridge information can be easily developed by ObjectARX programming library supporting functional expansion of AutoCAD program. End-users can use the application module without any additional environmental setup on the AutoCAD. Thus this study facilitates information management of steel bridge by using ACIS solid modeler and ISO/STEP methodology.

Standalone Maritime Aids-To-Navigation AIS Mobile Station

  • Automatic Identification System (AIS) is a VHF radio broadcasting system where transmits packets of data via VHF data link. It enables vessels and coastal-based station that equipped with AIS equipment to send and receive useful information. This information can be help in situational awareness and provide a means to assist in collision avoidance. In addition, AIS can be use as Aid-To-Navigation, by providing the location and additional information on buoys and lights. Besides, it can also contain details information in meteorological status of a particular ship location. This paper presents the standalone AIS system that able to receive and report own ship location, meteorological data collection and broadcast safety related information if necessary. With the unique ship's MMSI number, all the information of that particular ship can be monitor by using AIS program written in C++ programming language.
