  • Shot change detection is an important technique for effective management of video data, so detection scheme requires adaptive detection techniques to be used actually in various video. In this paper, we propose an adaptive shot change detection algorithm using the mean of feature value on variable reference blocks. Our algorithm determines shot change detection by defining adaptive threshold values with the feature value extracted from video frames and comparing the feature value and the threshold value. We obtained better detection ratio than the conventional methods maximally by 15% in the experiment with the same test sequence. We also had good detection ratio for other several methods of feature extraction and could see realtime operation of shot change detection in the hardware platform with low performance was possible by implementing it in TVUS model of HOMECAST company. Thus, our algerian in the paper can be useful in PMP(portable multimedia player) or other portable players.

  • Adaptive analysis of multilayered composite and sandwich plates is carried out. The adaptive analysis is based on a finite element error form, which measures the difference between the through-the-thickness distribution of finite element displacement and the actual displacement. The region where the error-measure exceeds the prescribed admitted error value, the finite element mesh locally refined in the thickness direction using the mesh superposition technique. Several numerical tests are conducted to validate the effectiveness of the current approach for adaptive analysis of laminated plates.

  • In this paper we introduce a method of improving efficiency of the moment estimator of Dekkers, Einmahl and de Haan(1989) for the extreme value index $\beta$. a new estimator of $\beta$ is proposed by adding the third moment ot the original moment estimator which is composed of the first two moments of the log-transformed sample data. We establish asymptotic normality of the new estimator and examine and adaptive procedure for the new estimator. The resulting adaptive estimator proves to be asymptotically better than the moment estimator particularly for $\beta$<0.

  • There have been numerous studies that extract the R-peak from electrocardiogram (ECG) signals. All of these studies can extract R-peak from ECG. However, these methods are complicated and difficult to implement in a real-time portable ECG device. After filtration choosing a threshold value for R-peak detection is a big challenge. Fixed threshold scheme is sometimes unable to detect low R-peak value and adaptive threshold sometime detect wrong R-peak for more adaptation. In this paper, a simple and robustness algorithm is proposed to detect R-peak with less complexity. This method also solves the problem of threshold value selection. Using the adaptive filter, the baseline drift can be removed from ECG signal. After filtration, an appropriate threshold value is automatically chosen by using the minimum and maximum value of an ECG signals. Then the neighborhood searching scheme is applied under threshold value to detect R-peak from ECG signals. Proposed method improves the detection and accuracy rate of R-peak detection. After R-peak detection, we calculate heart rate to know the heart condition.

  • Image binarization using a global threshold value [3] performs at high speed, but usually results in undesired binary images when the source images are of poor quality. In such cases, adaptive local thresholding algorithms [1][2][3] are used to obtain better results, and the algorithm proposed by A.E.Savekis which chooses local threshold using foreground and background clustering [1] is one of the best thresholding algorithms. However, this algorithm runs slowly due to its re-computing threshold value of each central pixel in a local window MxM. In this paper, we present a dynamic programming approach for the step of calculating local threshold value that reduces many redundant computations and improves the execution speed significantly. Experiments show that our proposal improvement runs more ten times faster than the original algorithm.

  • In this paper, proposed a method to improve of control characteristics for power facility using the adaptive sizing of fuzzy inference method. In the use of the controller based the fuzzy logic, a basic mamdani fuzzy controller is applied. However, when the maximum value and the minimum value have to taken, the fuzzy controller can not take a normal value because of formalized grouping form. In this paper, we combine the conventional methods with single valued sets to compensate for the disadvantage caused by the mamdani method control. Simulation results show that the proposed method has better overshoot and steady state arrival time than the conventional control method.

  • Although low spatial resolution satellite images like MODIS and GOCI can be important to observe land surface, it is often difficult to visually interpret the imagery because of the low contrast by prevailing cloud covers. We proposed a simple and adaptive stretching algorithm to enhance image contrast over land areas in cloudy images. The proposed method is basically a linear algorithm that stretches only non-cloud pixels. The adaptive linear stretch method uses two values: the low limit (L) from image statistics and upper limit (U) from low boundary value of cloud pixels. The cloud pixel value was automatically determined by pre-developed empirical function for each spectral band. We used MODIS and GOCI images having various types of cloud distributions and coverage. The adaptive contrast stretching method was evaluated by both visual interpretation and statistical distribution of displayed brightness values.

  • This paper describes error estimate mothod for adaptive finite element analysis of two dimensional electrostatic and magnetostatic field problems. To estimate the local errors, divergence theorem is used for electrostatic field and Ampere's circuital law for magnetostatic field. To confirm the effectiveness of the proposed error estimators, adaptive finite element computations are performed using the proposed error estimators. The rates of convergence of global errors are comparable with those of existing adaptive finite element schemes which make use of field continuity conditions between element boundaries. This algorithm of error estimate can be easily implemented because of its simplicity. Especially, when the value of charge in electrostatic field and the value of current in magnetostatic field are to be figured out, this method is considerded to be preferable to other approaches.

  • Adaptive Control is used in order to improve close loop dynamics with a fuzzy controller when process parameters are unknown or fluctuate form an initial value. The way in which the adaptive control environment may be applied is the following. First we obtain a linear fuzzy controller. Second, we apply the adaptive rules by means of actuating directly over fuzzy variables which change their value. The techniques are based on Lyapunov functions. Third, we comment about extending this method to non-piecewise linear controllers using the contrast definition for a fuzzy controller.
