In this paper, we propose an adaptive beamforming algorithm for array antenna. The proposed beamforming algorithm, based on Block LMS (Block - Least Mean Squares) algorithm, has a variable step size from coefficient update. This method shows some advantages that the convergence speed is fast and the calculation time can reduced using a block LMS algorithm from frequency domain. As the adaptive parameter approaches a stationary state, it could reduce the number of filter coefficient update with the help of various step size. In this paper we compared the efficiency of the proposed algorithm with a standard LMS algorithm which is a representative method of adaptive beamforming.
we propose the Walsh-Hadamard Transform adaptive filter with time-varying step size. The performance of the proposed algorithm is evealuated in system identification where computer simulations are performed for both time-invariant and time-varying system. It is shown that the proposed algorithm produces good results compared with similar algorithms under different conditions, particularly in case of time-varying circumstance.

One of the most popular algorithm in adaptive signal processing is the least mean square(LMS) algorithm. The majority of these papers examine the LMS algorithm with a constant step size. The choice of the step size reflects a tradeoff between misadjustment and the speed of adaptation. Subsequent works have discussed the issue of optimization of the step size or methods of varying the step size to improve performance. However there is as yet no detailed analysis of a variable step size algorithm that is capable of giving both the adaptation speed and the convergence. In this paper we propose a new variable step size algorithm where the step size adjustment is controlled by the gradient of error square. The proposed algorithm is performed in the Walsh-Hadamard domain in real-valued orthogonal transform because of fast convergence. The simulation results using the new algorithm for noise canceller system is described. They are compared to the results obtained by other algorithms. It is shown that the proposed algorithm produces good results compared with conventional algorithms.

Although least mean square(LMS) algorithm is known to one of the most popular algorithm in adaptive signal processing because of the simplicity and the small computation, the choice of the step size reflects a tradeoff between the misadjustment and the speed of adaptation. In this paper, we present a new variable step size LMS algorithm, so-called ECLMS(Estimated correlation LMS), using the correlation between reference input and error signal of adaptive filter. The proposed algorithm updates each weight of filter by different step size at same sample time. We applied this algorithm to adaptive multiple-notch filter. Simulation results are presented to compare the performance of the proposed algorithm with the usual LMS algorithm and another variable step algorithm.

This paper relates with the Hybrid-SE-MMA (Signed-Error MMA) that is possible to improving the equalization performance by using the adaptive modulus and adaptive step size in SE-MMA adaptive equalizer for the minimizing the intersymbol interference. The equalizer tap coefficient is updatted use the error signal in MMA algorithm for adaptive equalizer. But the sign of error signal is used for the simplification of arithmetic operation in SE-MMA algorithm in order to updating the coefficient. By this simplification, we get the fast convergence speed and the reduce the algorithm processing speed, but not in the equalization performance. In this paper, it is possible to improve the equalization performance by computer simulation applying the adaptive modulus to the SE-MMA which is proposional to the power of equalizer output signal. In order to compare the improved equalization performance compared to the present SE-MMA, the recovered signal constellation that is the output of the equalizer, residual isi, MD(maximum distortion), MSE and the SER perfomance that means the robustness to the external noise were used. As a result of computer simulation, the Hybrid-SE-MMA improve equalization performance in the residual isi and MD, MSE, SER than the SE-MMA.

Step-by-step time integration methods are widely used for solving structural dynamics problem. One difficult yet critical choice an analyst must make is to decide an appropriate time step size. The choice of time step size has a significant effect on solution accuracy and computational expense. The objective of this research is to derive error estimate for newly developed time integration method and develop automatic time step size control algorithm for structural dynamics. A formula for computing error tolerance is derived based on desired period resolution. An automatic time step size control strategy is proposed based on a normalized local error estimate for the generalized-α method. Numerical examples demonstrate the developed strategy satisfies general design criteria for time step size control algorithm for dynamic problem.

The Interaction Picture (IP) method is a valuable alternative to Split-step methods for solving certain types of partial differential equations such as the nonlinear Schr$\ddot{o}$dinger equation or the Gross-Pitaevskii equation. Although very similar to the Symmetric Split-step (SS) method in its inner computational structure, the IP method results from a change of unknown and therefore do not involve approximation such as the one resulting from the use of a splitting formula. In its standard form the IP method such as the SS method is used in conjunction with the classical 4th order Runge-Kutta (RK) scheme. However it appears to be relevant to look for RK scheme of higher order so as to improve the accuracy of the IP method. In this paper we investigate 5th order Embedded Runge-Kutta schemes suited to be used in conjunction with the IP method and designed to deliver a local error estimation for adaptive step size control.

This paper evaluates the performance of CCA (Compact Constellation Algorithm) adaptive equalization algorithm by varying the step size for minimization of the distortion effect in the communication channel. The CCA combines the conventional DDA and RCA algorithm, it uses the constant modulus of the transmission signal and the considering the output of decision device by the power of compact slice weighting value in order to improving the initial convergence characteristics and the equalization noise by misadjustment in the steady state. In this process, the compact slice weight values were fixed, and the performance of CCA adaptive equalization algorithm was evaluated by the varing the three values of step size for adaptation. As a result of computer simulation, it shows that the smaller step size gives slow convergence speed, but gives excellent performance after at steady state. Especially in SER performance, the small step size gives more robustness that large values.
The future teleconferencing systems will need an appropriate system which controls properly the acoustic echo for the convenient communication. The conventional acoustic echo cancellation algorithms involve large adaptive filters identifying the impulse response of the echo path. The use of adaptive IIR filters appears to be a reasonable way to reduce computational complexity. Effective cancellation of acoustic echo presented in teleconferencing system requires that adaptive filters have a rapid convergence speed. One of the main problems of acoustic echo cancellation techniques is that the convergence properties degrade for an highly correlated signal input such as speech signals. By the way, the introduction of linear prediction filers onto the structure of the acoustic echo cancellation represents one approach to decorrelate the speech signal. And variable step-size LMS algorithm improves the convergence speed through a little increasing of computational complexity. In this paper, we applied these two methods to the acoustic echo canceller(AEC) and showed that these methods have better performances than the conventional AEC.
