  • In this paper we present an architecture, implementation, and performance evaluation of an adaptive communication system (ACS) for wide-area ATM clusters. Our approach capitalizes on thread-based programming model to overlap computation and communication and develop a dynamic message-passing environment with separate data and control paths. This leads to a flexible and adaptive message-passing environment that can support multiple flow control, error control, and multicasting algorithms. We show the performance of ACS applications and compare them with p4, PVM, and MPI applications.

  • This paper presents a new auto brighoess control algorithm fur adaptive background subtraction. The algorithm is designed to cope with the problem of auto-brightness adjustment feature of consumer-type cameras. The experimental results show the proposed method improves performance of the classification. This will be beneficial to many computer vision applications in term of reducing the cost of implementation and making them more available to the mass consumer market.

  • In this paper, a speech enhancement system using microphone array with adaptive Post-Processing is implemented in real-lime with TMS320C6201 DSP. It consists of delay-and-sum beamformer and adaptive post-processing filters with NLMS (Normalized Least Mean Square) algorithm. THS1206 ADC is used for collection of 4-channel microphone signals. Sizes of program memory, data ROM and data RAM of the implemented system are 15,744, 748 and 47,540 bytes, respectively. Finally 21.839${\times}$106 clocks per second is required for real-time operation.

  • The neural network with radial basis function is introduced for position tracking control of AC servo drive with the existence of system uncertainties. An adaptive robust term is applied to overcome the external disturbances. The proposed controller is implemented on a high performance digital signal processing DSP TMS320C6713-300. The stability and the convergence of the system are proved by Lyapunov theory. The validity and robustness of the controller are verified through simulation and experimental results

  • 3GPP and ETSI adopted AMR(Adaptive Multi-Rate) as a standard for next generation IMT-2000 service. In this paper, we analyzed algorithm about AMR and optimized ANSI C source on the C complier and assembly language of Texas Instrument . The implemented AMR speech codec requires 28.2MIPS of complexity for encoder and 5.5MIPS for decoder. we performed real-time implementation of AMR speech codec using 82% of TMS320C5402 with 40 MIPS specification. We give proof that the output speech of the implemented speech codec on DSP board is identical with result of C source program simulation. Also the reconstructed speech is verified in the real-time environment consisted of microphone and speaker.

  • Recently, a number of papers on adaptive control scheme of manipulators are proposed. Slotine and Li[1] showed an adaptive control scheme for robot manipulator. The controller was described in closed form. And later Niemeyer and Slotine discussed about a computational implementation of the controller in recursive form[2]. Walker proposed another adaptive control scheme which can be implemented by a recursive-form controller[4]. Closed-form description is used for the analysis or design of adaptive control systems while recursive-form realization is used for implementation of the controller. The relation between the closed-form realization and the recursive-form one seems to be inadequately referred. Hence, it makes sense to consider the relation between the closed-form description and the recursive-form one. In this paper, first, we make a simple derivation of an closed-form dynamics description of a robot arm from its recursive-form description. And then we derive the closed-form realization of Walker's scheme applied to manipulators having no kinematic loop. We clarify the difference between the Walker's scheme and Slotine's and evaluate the convergence under the controllers.

  • This paper is concerned with the implementation of adaptive positive position feedback controller using a digital signal processor and microcontroller The main advantage of the positive position feedback controller is that it can control a natural mode of interest by tuning the filter frequency of the positive position feedback controller to the natural frequency of the target mode. However, the positive position feedback controller loses its advantage when mistuned. In this paper, the fast fourier transform algorithm is implemented on the microcontroller whereas the positive position feedback controller is implemented on the digital signal processor. After calculating the frequency which affects the vibrations of structure most the result is transferred to the digital signal processor. The digital signal processor updates the information on the frequency to be controlled so that it can cope with both internal and external changes. The proposed scheme was installed and tested using a beam equipped with piezoceramic sensor and actuator. The experimental results show that the adaptive positive position feedback controller proposed in this paper can suppress vibrations even when the target structure undergoes structural change thus validating the approach.

  • eLearning can be defined as an approach to teaching and teaming that utilises Internet technologies to communicate and collaborate in an educational context. This includes technology that supplements traditional classroom training with web-based components and learning environments where the educational process is experienced online. The use of hypertext as an educational tool has a very rich history. The advent of the internet and one of its major application, the world wide web (WWW), has given a tremendous boost to the theory and practice of hypermedia systems for educational purposes. However, the web suffers from an inability to satisfy the heterogeneous needs of a large number of users. For example, web-based courses present the same static teaming material to students with widely differing knowledge of the subject. Adaptive hypermedia techniques can be used to improve the adaptability of eLearning. In this paper we report an approach to the design a unified implementation framework suitable for web-based eLearning that accommodates the three main dimensions of hypermedia adaptation: content, navigation, and presentation. The framework externalises the adaptation strategies using XML notation. The separation of the adaptation strategies from the source code of the eLearning software enables a system using the framework to quickly implement a variety of adaptation strategies. This work is a part of our more general ongoing work on the design of a framework for adaptive content delivery. parts of the framework discussed in this paper have been imulemented in a commercial eLearning engine.

  • In this paper, an adaptive precompensator, which can reduce the distortion of a Wiener system effectively, is proposed. The previous techniques for adaptive precompensation, based on the Volterra series modeling to compensate the distortion of a nonlinear system, are not suitable for real-time implementation due to high computational burden and slow convergence burden and slow convergence rate. This paper presents an adaptive precompensation technique for the class of nonlinear subsystem, referred to as Wiener system. An adaptive algorithm for adjusting the parameters of a precompensator, structured by a hammerstein model, is derived using the stochastic gradient method. Also, an adaptive precompensatin technique which can effectively reduce nonlinear distortion in μ-law type of saturation characteristics is proposed. The validity of the proposed algorithm is confirmed through simulation by applying it to known Wiener systmes and a typical loudspeaker model.
