This paper presents a multimodal adaptive nonlinear static method of analysis that, differently from the nonlinear static methods suggested in seismic codes, does not require the definition of the equivalent Single-Degree-Of-Freedom (SDOF) system to evaluate the seismic response of structures. First, the proposed method is formulated for the assessment of r.c. plane frames and then it is extended to 3D framed structures. Furthermore, the proposed nonlinear static approach is re-elaborated as a displacement-based design method that does not require the use of the behaviour factor and takes into account explicitly the plastic deformation capacity of the structure. Numerical applications to r.c. plane frames and to a 3D framed structure with inplan irregularity are carried out to illustrate the attractive features as well as the limitations of the proposed method. Furthermore, the numerical applications evidence the uncertainty about the suitability of the displacement demand prediction obtained by the nonlinear static methods commonly adopted.
In this paper, we propose a new learning algorithm, ASOFM(Adaptive Self Organizing Feature Map), to solve the defects of Kohonen's Self Organiaing Feature Map. Kohonen's algorithm is sometimes stranded on local minima for the initial weights. The proposed algorithm uses an object function which can evaluate the state of network in learning and adjusts the learning rate adaptively according to the evaluation of the object function. As a result, it is always guaranteed that the state of network is converged to the global minimum value and it has a capacity of generalized learning by adaptively. It is reduce that the learning time of our algorithm is about $30\%$ of Kohonen's.

In this paper, the performance of an adaptive array antenna using Constant Modulus Algorithm (CMA) based on the signal structure for the IMT-2000 3GPP specification reverse link of an asynchronous direct sequence code division multiple access (DS-CDMA) system are evaluated. In addition, the performance is compared with the array antenna using Least Mean Square (LMS) based on the training signal. The simulation parameters such as the number of multipath, mu10pa1h intensity profiles between path, spreading gain and multiuser etc., are considered in the Monte Carlo simulation. Simulation results demonstrate an adaptive array antenna using CMA may give more capacity gain than the amy antenna using LMS in the case of multipath fading channel.

CISCO VNI predicted an average annual growth rate of 66% for mobile video traffic between 2014 and 2019 and accordingly much academic research related to video streaming has been initiated. In video streaming, Adaptive Bitrate (ABR) is a streaming technique in which a source video is stored on a server at variable encoding rates and each streaming user requests the most appropriate video encoding rate considering their channel capacity. However, these days, ABR related studies are only focusing on real-time rate adaptation omitting energy efficiency though it is one of the most important requirement for mobile devices, which may cause dissatisfaction for streaming users. In this paper, we propose an energy efficient prefetching based dynamic adaptive streaming technique by considering the limited characteristics of the batteries used in mobile devices, in order to reduce the energy waste and provide a similar level of service in terms of the average video rate compared to the latest ABR streaming technique which does not consider the energy consumption. The simulation results is showing that our proposed scheme saves 65~68% of energy at the average global mobile download speed compared to the latest high performance ABR algorithm while providing similar rate adaptation performance.

To reduce the outage probability and to increase the transmission capacity, the importance of repeaters in cellular systems is increasing. But a RF(Radio Frequency) repeater has a problem that the output of the transmit antenna is partially feedback to the receive antenna, which is feedback interference. In this paper, we proposed adaptive Sign-Sign LMS(Least Mean Square) algorithm using correlations for the performance enhancement of RF repeater. The weight vector is updated by using sign of input signal and error signal to the least squared error of the conventional algorithms. When compared with the conventional method, the proposed canceller achieves the maximum 10 dB performance gain in terms of the MSE(Mean Square Error).
This paper proposes an adaptive multislot allocation algorithm in order to achieve large system capacity and higher throughput data transmissions. The proposed system is the combination of the slow adaptive modulation system, in which the base station dynamically a signs optimum modulation parameters measuring the CNR(carrier to noise power ratio) of each transmission terminal, and the multislot allocation scheme, in which the base station flexibly allocates an appropriate number of TDMA data slots according to the instantaneous load conditions. Computer simulations confirm that the proposed system can tremendously improve average message delay characteristics in comparison with the conventional fixed slot allocation method.

Multi-User Multiple-Input Multiple-Output (MU-MIMO) technology has recently attracted significant attention from academia and industry because of it is increasingly important role in improving networks' capacity and data rate. Moreover, MU-MIMO systems for the Fifth Generation (5G) have already been researched. High Quality of Service (QoS) and efficient operations at the Medium Access Control (MAC) layer have become key requirements. In this paper, we propose a downlink MU-MIMO MAC protocol based on adaptive Channel State Information (CSI) feedback (called MMM-A) for Wireless Local Area Networks (WLANs). A modified CSMA/CA mechanism using new frame formats is adopted in the proposed protocol. Specifically, the CSI is exchanged between stations (STAs) in an adaptive way, and a packet selection strategy which can guarantee a fairer QoS for scenarios with differentiated traffic is also included in the MMM-A protocol. We then derive the expressions of the throughput and access delay, and analyze the performance of the protocol. It is easy to find that the MMM-A protocol outperforms the commonly used protocols in terms of the saturated throughput and access delay through simulation and analysis results.
This study applies the concept of climate change vulnerability assessment in order to suggest climate change adaptation effects in a quantitative manner, given that previous studies have hitherto rely on qualitative assessment, as climate change adaptive policies are currently being implemented by local governments of Korea. The vulnerability assessment tool used in this study is VESTAP ("Vulnerability assESsment Tool to build a climate change Adaptation Plan"), which was developed by the Korea Adaptation Center for Climate Change (KACCC), and applied to gauge the vulnerability of pine trees to diseases and pests within Chungcheongnam-do. The climate change adaptation project for vulnerability improvement was assessed only in terms of forest disaster prevention and change in regional climate change vulnerabilities within 16 regions of Chungcheongnam-do as the result of 2016 Climate Change Adaptation Project (Forest Disaster Prevention Project). As a result, it was observed that climate change adaptive capacity has improved according to change in the area of forestland with disaster prevention, and the vulnerability indicator decreased, confirming the impact of the climate change adaptation (forest disaster prevention) project. Also, analysis of regional climate change adaptation project scales and change in vulnerabilities allowed us to determine the regional propriety of climate change adaptation (forest disaster prevention) projects launched in 2016.

Interference may occur when several co-located wireless body area networks (WBANs) share the same channel simultaneously, which is compressed by resource scheduling generally. In this paper, a QoS-aware Adaptive Coloring (QAC) scheduling algorithm is proposed, which contains two components: interference sets determination and time slots assignment. The highlight of QAC is to determine the interference graph based on the relay scheme and adapted to the network QoS by multi-coloring approach. However, the frequent resource assignment brings in extra energy consumption and packet loss. Thus we come up with a launch condition for the QAC scheduling algorithm, that is if the interference duration is longer than a threshold predetermined, time slots rescheduling is activated. Furthermore, based on the relative distance and moving speed between WBANs, a prediction model for interference duration is proposed. The simulation results show that compared with the state-of-the-art approaches, the QAC scheduling algorithm has better performance in terms of network capacity, average delay and resource utility.

In this paper, an adaptive power control algorithm in the DS/CDMA system is proposed. The currently used transmitter/receiver based on IS-95 and the radio propagation channel under mobile communication environments are modeled. Theses are the key features for the simulation to analyse the performance of power control. the distribution of the received SIR(signal to interference ratio)and the bit error probability are the required parameters for the performance analysis. Furthermore the influence of the power control command error on the above parameters are analyzed. By using the performance analysis of IS-95 and the occurrence of burst errors that is characteristic for wireless channels. the new power control algorithm is proposed. The proposed power control algorithm increases the SIR which results in a better service quality and an enhancement in the system capacity.
