The various electromagnetic based actuation(EMA) methods have been proposed for actuating microrobot. The advantage of EMA is that it can provide wireless driving to microrobot. In this reason a lot of researchers have been focusing on the EMA driven microrobot. This paper proposed a swimming microrobot driven by external alternating magnet field which is generated by two pairs of Helmholtz coils. The microrobot has a fish-like shape and consists of a buoyant robot body, a permanent magnet, and a fin. The fin is directly linked to the permanent magnet and the magnet is swung by the alternating magnet field, which makes the propulsion and steering power of the robot. In this paper, firstly, we designed the locomotive mechanism of the microrobot boy EMA. Secondly, we set up the control system. Finally, we demonstrated the swimming robot and evaluated the performance of the microrobot by the experiments.

The study is aimed at investigating the feasibility of a high TRL solution for a wing flap segment characterized by morphable camber airfoil and properly tailored to be implemented on a real-scale regional transportation aircraft. On the base of specific aerodynamic requirements in terms of target airfoil shapes and related external loads, the structural layout of the device was preliminarily defined. Advanced FE analyses were then carried out in order to properly size the load-carrying structure and the embedded actuation system. A full scale limited span prototype was finally manufactured and tested to: ${\bullet}$ demonstrate the morphing capability of the conceived structural layout; ${\bullet}$ demonstrate the capability of the morphing structure to withstand static loads representative of the limit aerodynamic pressures expected in service; ${\bullet}$ characterize the dynamic behavior of the morphing structure through the identification of the most significant normal modes. Obtained results showed high correlation levels with respect to numerical expectations thus proving the compliance of the device with the design requirements as well as the goodness of modeling approaches implemented during the design phase.
This paper deals with TVC nozzle stroke verification test and corresponding analysis techniques related to kick motor TVC system of KSLV-I second stage. It is shown that the relationship between TVC stroke and potentiometer voltage is revealed via the open-loop stroke verification test, and other major operational parameters including nozzle alignment error, actuation error, neutral position, radius of nozzle rotation, location of nozzle rotation center, angle conversion coefficients, etc. are analyzed via the closed-loop stroke verification test. The TVC stroke verification test results for the first and second flight model of KSLV-I show that all TVC operational parameters of KSLV-I second stage were normally setup for the first and second flight tests.

This paper deals with a single crystalline silicon (SCS) RF MEMS switch for telecommunication system applications. The proposed SCS switch was fabricated using a silicon-on-glass (SiOG) process and its performances in terms of RF responses, switching time, lifetime were characterized. The proposed SCS switch consists of movable plates, mechanical spring structures, which are composed of robust SCS, resulting in mechanically good stability, The measured actuation voltage was 30 V, and with this applied voltage, the insertion loss and isolation characteristics were measured to be 0.05 and 44.6 dB at 2 GHz respectively. The measured switch ON and OFF time were 13 and $9{\mu}s$, respectively. The lifetime of the fabricated switch was tested. Even after over 1 billion cycles repeated ON/OFF actuations, the switch maintained its own characteristics.
Vibrations of a wind turbine blade have a negative impact on its performance and result in failure of the blade, therefore an approach to effectively control vibration in turbine blades are sought by wind industry. The small domestic horizontal axis wind turbine blades induce flap wise (out-of-plane) vibration, due to varying wind speeds. These flap wise vibrations are transferred to the structure, which even causes catastrophic failure of the system. Shape memory alloys which possess physical property of variable stiffness across different phases are embedded into the composite blades for active vibration control. Previously Shape memory alloys have been used as actuators to change their angles and orientations in fighter jet blades but not used for active vibration control for wind turbine blades. In this work a GFRP blade embedded with Shape Memory Alloy (SMA) and tested for its vibrational and material damping characteristics, under martensitic and austenite conditions. The embedment portrays 47% reduction in displacement of blade, with respect to the conventional blade. An analytical model for the actuated smart blade is also proposed, which validates the harmonic response of the smart blade.

This paper presents some examples of active control of flow-induced vibration using piezoelectric actuators. The flutter phenomenon, which is the dynamic instability of structure due to mutual interaction among inertia, stiffness, and aerodynamic forces, may cause catastrophic structural failure, and therefore the active flutter suppression is one of the main objectives of the aeroelastic control. Active flutter control has been numerically and experimentally studied for swept-back lifting surfaces using piezoelectric actuation. A finite element method, a panel aerodynamic method, and the minimum state space realization are involved in the development of the governing equation, which is efficiently used for the analysis of the system and design of control laws with modern control framework. The active control suppressed flow-induced vibrations and extended the flutter speed around by 10%. Another representative flow-induced vibration phenomenon is the oscillation of blunt bodies due to the vortex shedding. In general, it is quite difficult to set up the numerical model because of the strong non-linearity of the vortex shedding structure. Therefore, we applied adaptive positive position feedback controller, which requires no pre-determined model of the plant, and successfully suppressed the flow-induced vibration.

X-band antenna has been widely used to effectively transmit the high resolution image data from the observation satellite to the ground station. To achieve above mission, X-band antenna is mainly composed of the 2-axis gimbal system using stepping motors and gears. However, the micro-vibration induced by the stepping motor actuation and the imperfect gear teeth alignment during this on-orbit operation is the main source of image quality degradation. In this paper, X-band antenna combined with a blade gear for micro-vibration isolation was suggested and investigated. The structural safety of the blade gear with low rotational stiffness was confirmed by structure analysis based on the derived torque budget. The isolation performance of the X-band antenna with the blade gear was verified through micro-vibration measurement test using the dedicated micro-vibration measurement device proposed in this study.

Electro-Active Paper (EAPap) is one of attractive electro-active polymer (EAP) materials for artificial muscles due to its many advantages such as light weight, biologically degradable, low cost, large displacement output, low actuation voltage and low power consumption. However, drawbacks of EAPap actuators include low force output and humidity dependence. To enhance the performance of EAPap, conductive polymer (PPy) and SWNT/conductive polymer (PANI) are coated on EAPap PPy as conductive polymer is coated on cellulose EAPap by means of electrochemical deposition. Two different dopants are used in PPy through conducting polymer processing. SWNTS are mixed with PANI in emeraldine base along with different dopants. The compound materials are coated on cellulose EAPap using spin coating system. The performance of PPy/EAPap and SWNT/PANI/EAPap are evaluated in terms of bending displacement, blocked force, and the effects of dopants, humidity, coaling time, voltage and frequency are investigated. Comparing with EAPap actuators, SWNT/PANI/EAPap actuators show $200\%$ improvement of bending displacement and $300\%$ increment of blocked force.
A mobile robot, named KAEROT, has been developed for inspection and maintenance operations in nuclear facilities. The main feature of locomotion system is the planetary wheel assembly with small wheels. This mechanism has been designed to be able to go over the stairs and obstacles with stability. This paper presents the inverse kinematic solution that is to be operated by remote control. The automatic stair climbing algorithm is also proposed. The. proposed algorithms generates the moving pathes of small wheels and calculates the angular velocity of 3 actuation wheels. The results of simulations and experiments are given for KAEROT peformed on the irregular stairs in laboratory. It is shown that the proposed algorithm provides the lower inclination angle of the robot body and increases its stability during navigation.
When a manual transmission equipped car stops on an incline where the nose of the car is higher than the rear, hill-start control or hill-holder could prevent the vehicle from rolling backward as the car moves forward. The easy-hill assist valve consists of a check valve and a needle type ON/OFF solenoid valve connected in parallel; it is a hydraulic actuator that can maintain brake pressure using an electrical signal from the ECU. As the EHA valve is a safety-related component of the brake system, high reliability as well as superior dynamic performance is required for it to be applied in commercial vehicles. This paper presents the design of the EHA valve as a piece of equipment that can simulate the brake actuation pressure with a pressurizing piston. Following specific test standards, the experimental results validate the implemented functions of the test equipment, proving the test stand to be effective for the performance and endurance of the EHA valve.
