  • A synthesis of Dimer acid was studied from a tall oil fatty acid. Catalytic activity measured as reactant conversion in a autoclave reactor increase in accordance with the acidity. The optimization of process conditions were tested by an experimental design method. Optimization synthetic conditions of dimer acid and were reaction of tall oil fatty acid during 2 hour at $250^{\circ}C$, used of 7.3 wt% active clay and $1.2{\sim}1.4wt%$ water, and found reation pressure $8{\sim}9Kg/cm^2$. The maximum conversion rate was researched $74{\sim}76%$.

  • This study revealed the behavior of droplets formed through leak process in deep water. There was a threshold depth named the universal attraction depth (UAD). Droplets rose upward in the zone below the UAD called the rising zone, and settled down in the zone above the UAD called the settling zone. Three mass loss modes were identified and formulated: dissolution induced by mass transfer, condensation by heat transfer and phase separation by pressure decrease. The first two were active for the settling zone, and all the three were effective for the rising zone. In consequence, the life time of the droplets in the rising zone was far shorter than that of the droplets in the settling zone.

  • Contaminant transport has been widely studied in rigid porous media, but there are some cases where a large volumetric stain occurs such as dewatering of dredged contaminated sediment, landfill liner, and in-situ capping. This paper presents a numerical investigation of contaminant transport coupled with large strain consolidation. Consolidation test was performed with contaminated sediments collected in Gary, Indiana, U.S. to obtain constitutive relationships, which are required for numerical simulations. Numerical results using CST2 show an excellent agreement with measured settlement and excess pore pressure. CST2 is then used to simulate contaminant transport during and after in-situ capping. Numerical simulations provide that transient advective flows caused by consolidation significantly increase the contaminant transport rate. In addition, the numerical simulations revealed that active capping with Reactive Core Mat (RCM) significantly decelerates consolidation-induced contaminant transport.

  • Development of diamond wheel with fine grains and multi-pore structures were newely attempted to be studied in this paper. Wheels, that are employed for the smooth and mirrow finishing of die materials such as tungsten carbide alloy using tool and die materials, must have both performances to remove tool marks efficiently and to contact elastically with curved surfaces. Diamond abrasive grains were bonded firmly by a melamine to prevent the decrease of machining efficiency due to grain sinking within the bond materials. Also, highly foamed structures were developed to increase the flexibility of the wheel, and to induce active self-sharpening by increasing contact pressure between the wheel and work sufaces. In this paper, melamine-bonded diamond wheels are trial manufactured, then the forming method of wheels are explained.

  • Many residential areas are situated near to railroad tracks so that a railroad noise has been one of the major environmental issues. In this paper two important aspects have been investigated in order to properly evaluate the railroad vehicle noise : sound power levels for different types and sound propagation characteristics of the railroad vehicles. For noise source characteristics of railroad vehicles, sound power values for various types of trains that are in active service have been measured. In this paper, domestic railroad vehicles are measured and compared with high speed train(TGV). Based on sound power information of railway vehicles, prediction on the sound pressure level and equivalent noise level near to railway areas have been evaluated.

  • Hypersonic vehicles over Mach 5 need active cooling or thermal management systems to resolve excessive heating problems on their fuselage and engines. Endothermic fuels are widely used these days not only for the energy source but also for a heat sink. Therefore, fuel supply systems of hypersonic vehicles should be mainly composed of adiabatic fuel storage tank, cooling systems for the airframe and engine/nozzle, and fuel supply/injection systems in high pressure, high temperature, and high fuel flow rate conditions. This paper describes a conceptual design process of a hypersonic fuel supply system in order for designing a layout of the system, and identifying components and their specification requirements.

  • There are a lot of traffic jams in the metropolitan area and the commuting time has been longer nowadays. So the urban people has been interested in the GTX(Great Train Express) project in Korea. The GTX is the train which runs at 200km/h speed in underground tunnels. If the train also operates at high speed in tunnel section, the pressure wave will happen and the uplift force of pantograph may vary abruptly. If the rigid trolley bar system is used in tunnel section, it is difficult to improve the commercial speed of train. In order to improve the train speed in tunnel section, this paper presents the new pantograph concepts which can change the suspension stiffness and deals with the dynamic behavior characteristics of pantograph according to the parameter variation.

  • Recently, data throughput of smart electric devices increases dramatically. There is a great interest in a new technology which exceeds the limit of electrical transmission method. Optical PCB can supplement the weakness of electrical signal processing, the research for optical PCB is very active. In this paper, we propose the thermal imprint lithography process to fabrication optical layer of optical PCB and experiment to optimize the process conditions. We confirm process time, pressure, process temperature, demolding temperature and fabricate optical interconnection structure which has $45^{\circ}$ tilted mirror surface for confirm the interconnection efficiency.

  • Oxytocin and vasopressin were extracted from bovine posterior pituitaries and assayed, in many ways. On the assay of oxytocic active substance, it was found the depression method of blood pressure in a chicken was the easiest one among possible methods. The potency of oxytocin which was extracted with glacial acetic acid was 14.2 I.U./mg. On the assay of vasopressin for pressor activity. A full grown healthy male rat was used. Applying a simple artificial respiratory apparatus, the assay could be carried out successfully. The potency of vasopressin was 13.2 I.U/mg.
