  • In this paper, active noise control is performed in a duct system using the periodic pulse train which corresponds to the periodic component of noise source as a reference signal. Control algorithm applied in this study is possible to eliminate the acoustic feedback which occurs in the conventional filtered-x and filtered-u LMS algorithm by using electrical reference signal and has the fast adaptation speed with low filter orders by using synchronous sampling method is discussed via computer simulations and experiments of case studies such as frequency modulation, amplitude modulation and frequency differency between source signal and reference signal.

  • The closed-loop system modeling of an Active/semiactive suspension system has been accomplished through an artificial neural Networks. The 7DOF full model as the system equation of motion has been derived and the output feedback linear quadratic regulator has been designed for the control purpose. For the neural networks training set of a sample data has been obtained through the computer simulation. A 7DOF full model with LQR controller simulated under the several road conditions such as sinusoidal bumps and the rectangular bumps. A general multilayer perceptron neural network is used for the dynamic modeling and the target outputs are feedback to the input layer. The Backpropagation method is used as the training algorithm. The modeling of system and the model validation have been shown through computer simulations.

  • This paper presents a new concept of a semi-active suspension system for a commercial vehicle seat. The proposed suspension system features an ER(electro-rheological) damper which can produce continuously tunable damping forces by control electric fields. A dynamic model of the ER damper is first achieved by incorporating Bingham property of the ER fluid, followed by the formulation of governing equations of motion for the suspension system. A sliding mode controller is then designed on the basis of the hyper-plane sliding mode scheme. The effectiveness of the proposed control system is evaluated by investigating control performance for vibration isolation.

  • Dynamic modeling and active vibration control of smart hull structure using Macro Fiber Composite (MFC) actuator is conducted. Finite element modeling is used to obtain equations of motion and boundary effects of smart hull structure. Modal analysis is carried out to investigate the dynamic characteristics of the smart hull structure, and compared to the results of experimental investigation. Negative velocity feedback control algorithm is employed to investigate active damping of hull structure. It is observed that non-resonant vibration of hull structure is suppressed effectively by the MFC actuators.

  • Active micro-vibration control of a structure, which simulates a stepper device, is performed using a pair of piezolectric actuators. The control aims at reducing the translational and rotational vibrations of the upper plate when the base is subject to seismic disturbance and the upper plate undergoes impulsive transient motion. Using the experimentally determined model, derivative control scheme is adopted so that the damping of the closed-loop system is effectively increased. It is found that the predicted control performance is in good agreement with the experimental results. Finally, the limit cycle phenomenon due to the controller voltage saturation is compared with the simulation.

  • This paper proposed a MR(Magneto-rheological) seat damper for a commercial vehicle. After formulating the governing equation of motion, an appropriate size of damper is designed and manufactured. Following the equation of fie d-dependent damping force characteristics, a semi-active seat suspension installed with the proposed MR-damper is constructed and its dynamic model id established, Subsequently, vibration isolation performance of the semi-active suspension system is demonstrated by incorporating with a MRAC(Model referenced adaptive control) fer the MR Seat Damper

  • This paper reports the recent trends in active vibration control in Japan, especially, based on papers selected in the Proceedings of First International Conference on Motion and Vibration Control (1st MOVIC) held at Yokohama, Japan on Sept.7-11, 1992. Firstly, it classifiers vibration control methods and vibration controllers, especially active dynamic absorbers which are widely used in mechanical and civil engineering. Secondly, it covers basic problems in the control of vibration of flexible structures such as formulating a reduced-order model required for designing vibration controller, proper arranging of sensors and actuators, and preventing of spillover instability. Finally, the practical use of control theories such as LQ control theory, $H^{\infty}$ control theory, neural network theory, and other topics are discussed..

  • Today various interfaces are created with the advancement of technology. The flat 2D and static interfaces are general in the past but 3D and motion factors are imported in user interfaces today. It is important to use the motion factors adequately appropriate timing, situation and so on. This study focuses on the motion factor, especially the squash & stretch principle which affects the style of movement. This study investigates the effect of cartoon style(squash & stretch principle) for motion on attraction, emotion and attention. In experiment 1, participants evaluated attraction and emotion words relating to movement after they saw spheres applied to squash & stretch principle and spheres not applied to. The results indicate the squash & stretch principle can make motion not only more attractive but also brighter and more active than the general motion. In experiment 2, a sphere applied to squash & stretch principle and a sphere not applied to were presented at the same time and we measured the reaction time when participants detected change in one of the two spheres. As a result, the reaction time was faster when a sphere applied to squash & stretch principle changed. This suggests that the squash & stretch principle can make motion attract the attention of users.

  • This paper reports active control of clamped beams using acceleration feedback controllers (AF). The equations of motion of clamped beam under force and moment pairs were derived and the equations of AF controllers were formulated. The effect of the parameters - gain and damping ratio - of the AF controllers on the open loop transfer function was investigated mainly in terms of the system stability. Increasing the gain of the AF controller tuned at a mode, the magnitude of the open loop transfer function is increased at all frequencies. The increase of the damping ratio of the AF controller leads to decrease the magnitude of the open loop transfer function and modifies its phase characteristics to be more stable. Three AF controllers connected in parallel were then proposed. Each AF controller is tuned at the $2^{nd}$, $3^{rd}$ and $4^{th}$ modes, respectively. Their parameters were determined to remain the system to be stable based on the results of the parametric study. A significant reduction in vibration at the 3 modes can be obtained.
