Case Study on Flip Learning Application to Preparatory Childhood Teachers (예비유아교사의 플립러닝 적용 사례 연구)

  • This study was conducted to identify the experience that applied Flip Learning to preparatory childhood teachers. The target of study is 76 students who were in the first semester of the first year of three-year early childhood education major and took teaching profession subjects for 2 credits. The semester was run for 13 week-course from the beginning of March to the middle of June. Flip Learning was applied to all the classes. Data was collected through qualitative analysis of participants' journals and was concluded with the category of three strengths and four weaknesses. The strengths were firstly active class participation, secondly repetition learning, and thirdly self directed learning. The weaknesses were firstly a burden on class time, secondly improvement on Flip Learning methods, and thirdly a need of ability for self-directed learning and fourthly the experience of environmental unstability for prior learning. It suggests application examples of more effective teaching and learning methods for college professors and students through the case that applied Flip Learning to preparatory early childhood teachers.

A Case Study on the 'Theory of Home Economics Education' Using Online ProblemBased Learning (온라인 문제중심학습을 활용한 '가정교육론' 수업 사례 연구)

  • The objective of this study was to conduct a 'Theory of Home Economics Education' class using online problem-based learning(PBL) for prospective home economics(HE) teachers. The aim was to enable teachers to analyze the learning experience in the classroom, and to prepare operational strategies for online PBL on this basis. In order to achieve this, online PBL was applied to 31 students participating in the 'Theory of Home Economics Education' at the Department of HE in a university in Seoul, and the results were collected from the learning process. This also involved a reflective journal, a survey on the learning experience and the impacts was conducted. Moreover, analysis was undertaken on the learning activities, learning difficulties, and improvements. The main research results are as follows. Firstly, students accessed Webex, an online video conferencing program, and performed two PBL tasks: 'Making Home Economics Promotion Materials' and 'Presenting Teaching Strategies to Improve Learner's Immersion in Online Classes'. Secondly, learners established their own identity of HE learned about the HE class plans themselves. They also encountered realistic experience as HE teachers and learned communication and collaboration skills. Furthermore, they acquired creative problem-solving and self-directed learning ability, community consciousness, as well as the attitude of consideration and respect. Thirdly, students lacked knowledge of learning content and encountered difficulty in solving data research, analysis processes, and unstructured problems. They were affected by a lack of time and encountered problem in communicating with other team members in an online environment. As an improvement in online class operation, it was considrered necessary to reduce the learning burden by securing time and reducing the number of assignments, as well as to explain active interaction with instructors and PBL.

  • The purpose of the study is to explore leisure time use of older adults and find out relationships between active/passive leisure activities and socioeconomic backgrounds in order to prepare later life for homo hundred. The subjects were 336 adults aged 50 and over in Busan city, Korea. Results are as follows. First, the subjects spent more time in active leisure than passive. But ratio of passive leisure time is getting higher with age. Second, cognitive activities changed from reading, computing, internet to hobbies, card games with age. Third, participation of active leisure activities are related to age and socioeconomic backgrounds. From this study, lifelong education including leisure education should support older adults to redesign their later life for homo hundred. Second, leisure education should focus on increasing the ability of accepting and utilizing leisure opportunities for older adults. Third, the role of lifelong educator should be emphasized to involve education field more actively. Forth, lifelong education institutions should have the knowledge of the purposes and motivations of older adults who participate in order to provide proper programs continuously. The connection between lifelong education and leisure time use and activities would lead later life with the quality of life and active aging.

Active structural control via metaheuristic algorithms considering soil-structure interaction

  • In this study, multi-story structures are actively controlled using metaheuristic algorithms. The soil conditions such as dense, normal and soft soil are considered under near-fault ground motions consisting of two types of impulsive motions called directivity effect (fault normal component) and the flint step (fault parallel component). In the active tendon-controlled structure, Proportional-Integral-Derivative (PID) type controller optimized by the proposed algorithms was used to achieve a control signal and to produce a corresponding control force. As the novelty of the study, the parameters of PID controller were determined by different metaheuristic algorithms to find the best one for seismic structures. These algorithms are flower pollination algorithm (FPA), teaching learning based optimization (TLBO) and Jaya Algorithm (JA). Furthermore, since the influence of time delay on the structural responses is an important issue for active control systems, it should be considered in the optimization process and time domain analyses. The proposed method was applied for a 15-story structural model and the feasible results were found by limiting the maximum control force for the near-fault records defined in FEMA P-695. Finally, it was determined that the active control using metaheuristic algorithms optimally reduced the structural responses and can be applied for the buildings with the soil-structure interaction (SSI).

  • The worldwide spread of the internet has made it an important topic in our everyday lives. It has not only changed ordinary lives, but also the whole spectrum of modern society. Thus, it is necessary to understand the characteristic changes in learners as well as social demand in this drastic transformation period and to modify the goal and methods of learning to nurture future intellects. To achieve this, there have been recent attempts to invent new learning methods involving Web 2.0, which focuses on the user. Out of the various aspects of Web 2.0, the blog is expected to invoke learner-oriented education and active discussions between learners, in that the individual manages the blog autonomously and there is much interaction between users. This study will construct a learning system using the blog, apply it on real learners, and analyze its effect on the learners' scholastic achievements, interests, and learning transfer.

  • To enhance the effect of learning in vocabulary learning, it is important first of all for learner to take active learning and be interested in learning, not cramming education. Due to this background, the instructor sometimes takes advantage of the game concepts in producing the courseware for vocabulary learning. But because of overwhelming overload in making the game-based courseware, it have been not made practical application to vocabulary learning. In this research, we study on the strategy for making practical application of the game concept to producing the courseware for vocabulary learning. And, based on the strategy, we design and implement the authoring tool of courseware for vocabulary learning based on crossword puzzle game. This tool enables instructor to produce the courseware based on crossword puzzle game easily and quickly and to make efficiently the courseware for vocabulary learning with level.

  • The most important point in electronic learning(e-learning) is to gain the learning sympathy by improving interaction among the learners, instructors and operators around instruction contents. But it is necessary for the instructor to have active assistance of an administrator as a supporter and an operator because instructors do not accept all the learner's demands. So, operator's activity is very critical in success of e-learning. In this paper, wamine the theory of constructionism to effectively reflect the characteristic of WWW, and to build up a foundation of the web-based integrated e-learning circumstance. The circumstance is composed of 3 modules of the learner, instructor and the administrator. This aims to coordinate instruction functions in order to improve the effect of learning and to intensify the interaction. This paper presents the design and implementation of an e-learning system which is focused on the administrator's module to effectively support the operator's activity. As a result of this research, the system can be used in building up a variety of e-learning in university, that is, general training course and technical training course.

  • The purpose of this study is to examine the concepts and types of cross-cultural collaborative online learning that enhance the utilization of advanced ICT in education and contribute to the promotion of educational exchanges between countries, and suggest exchange learning design models necessary for the active introduction. For this study, previous studies related to cross-cultural collaborative online learning were examined. As a result, cross-cultural collaborative online learning is an educational method based on constructivism that explore and construct knowledge by interacting and collaborating with students, teachers, and field experts who are linguistically and culturally heterogeneous based on advanced ICT. The type of cross-cultural collaborative online learning could be divided into synchronous exchange learning centered on remote video classes and asynchronous exchange learning centered on website based tasks. A PPIE learning design model considering the characteristics of each type is presented.

A Study on the Factors Influencing the Learning Satisfaction of Records Management Cyber Education (기록물 사이버교육의 학습만족도 향상을 위한 영향 요인 연구)

  • This study aims to investigate the factors influencing the learning satisfaction of records management cyber education that is opened and operated by the National Archives of Korea, as well as to improve the quality of cyber education program. Cyber education consisted of an introductory course, an intensive course, and a liberal arts course. As the major factors for learning satisfaction, "validity of content structure, interaction between professors and learners, learning motivation, active learning attitude, ease of use environment, and level of organizational support" were set. An online survey was conducted on the learning satisfaction according to the curriculum of each course. The survey was conducted to 107 institutions with specialized records management personnel, and additional in-depth interviews were also conducted. The survey analysis consisted of factor analysis, independent sample T-test, analysis of variance (ANOVA), correlation analysis, and multiple regression analysis. As a result of the study, the factors influencing learning satisfaction were found in the order of interaction between professors and learners, learning motivation, and validity of content structure.
