Synthesis and Characterization of Acrylic Polymer Containing Silk Protein

  • Three kinds of acrylic polymers containing silk protein were synthesized, which are (1) blending of silk fibroin (SF) fiber and polyacrylonitrile (PAN); (2) graft-copolymer of PAN onto SFs; (3) random-copolymer synthesized by copolymerization of acrylonitrile (AN) and silk fibroin peptide (SFP) with vinyl groups, and their solubility, thermal property, and moisture absorption was investigated, respectively. These polymers have difference solubility and attributable to their structure. Their excellent thermal stabilities and better moisture absorptions were indicated.

  • The procedure to prepare an acrylic emulsion water repellents by blending of arcylic copolymer, activated polyethylene, wax, and emulsifiers was published in the previous paper. After the treatment of the prepared water repellents on a cotton fabrics with and without textile finishing resin, washability, contact angle, tearing strength, and crease recovery were tested. As the result, there were remarkable improvements in physical properties. Proper curing temperature of the synthesized water repellents impellents was $150^{\circ}C$ : proper using concentration was 5wt% : sodium acetate was the best catalyst for water repellents among the used, and proper concentration was 1.0wt%.

PC/ASA blends having enhanced interfacial and mechanical properties

  • Blend of bisphenol-A polycarbonate (PC) and (acrylonitrile-styrene-acrylic rubber) terpolymer (ASA) having excellent balance in the interfacial properties and mechanical strength was developed for the automobile applications. Since interfacial adhesion between PC and styrne-acrylonitrile copolymer (SAN) matrix of ASA is not strong enough, two different types of compatibilizers, i.e, diblock copolymer composed of tetramethyl polycarbonate (TMPC) and SAN (TMPC-b-SAN) and poly(methyl methacrylate) (PMMA) were examined to improve interfacial adhesion between PC and SAN. TMPC-b-SAN was more effective than PMMA in increasing interfacial adhesion between PC and SAN matrix of ASA (or weld-line strength of PC/ASA blend). When blend composition was fixed, PC/ASA blends exhibited similar mechanical properties except impact strength and weld-line strength. Impact strength of PCI ASA blend at low temperature was influenced by rubber particle size and its morphology. PC/ASA blends containing commercially available PMMA as compatibilizer also exhibited excellent balance in mechanical properties and interfacial adhesion.

습식 상 전이법으로 제조된 Theophylline 각인 대칭 막의 선택적 흡착 (Selective Adsorption of a Symmetrie Theophylline Imprinted Membrane Prepare by a Wet Phase Inversion Method)

  • 습식 상 전환법으로 theophylline이 각인된 poly(acryloni-trile-co-acrylic acid) 막을 제조하였다. theophylline은 고분자가 공중합되는 과정에 각인시키거나(in-situ implanting) 제자리 동시 각인) 공중합된 고분자를 DMSO 용액에 녹이면서 template를 섞어 각인시켰다(post implanting, 후 각인). 막의 template molecule에 대한 흡착 선택도는 응고시키는 물의 온도가 높을수록, 혼합물의 초기 농도가 높을수록 크게 나타났다. 후 각인법으로 제조된 막의 흡착선택도가 제자리 동시각인 제작법으로 제조된 막보다 흡착선택도가 우수하였다.

금속유물 강화용 아크릴수지 수명예측 (Lifetime Prediction of Acrylic Resin for Metal Artifacts Reinforcement)

  • 금속유물 강화제로 널리 사용 중인 아크릴계 수지 ParaloidTM B-72(EMA copolymer)의 수명예측을 위한 연구이다. 수명인자로서는 온도를 고려하였으며, 수명예측을 위한 test parameter로써 색도를 선택하였다. 그 결과, 같은 농도의 도막에서 온도에 대한 노화가 주요 요인이라는 것을 알았다. 즉 환경온도 24℃에서 24시간일 때 수명은 12.0년, 20℃에서 24시간일 때 수명은 17.1년, 16℃에서 24시간일 때 수명은 24.5년으로 예측되었다. 이 실험을 평가는 Arrhenius 관계식을 이용하여 예측하였다.

  • E-beam 전조사법을 이용하여 아크릴산과 스틸렌 단량체를 폴리프로필렌 섬유에 그라프트 반응시켜 PP-g-(AAc/Sty) 공중합체를 합성하고 술폰화 반응시켜 다관능성 섬유상 양이온 교환체를 합성하였다. 합성체의 그라프트율은 물과 메탄올 혼합비가 30 : 70 vol%인 혼합용매에서 아크릴산과 스틸렌, 단량체비가 30 : 70 vol%일 때 190%로 최대이었으며 혼합용매의 조성비가 일정할 때 아크릴산 단량체의 양이 증가할수록 그라프트율은 감소하였다. 또한 이온교환체의 이온교환용량은 4.6 meq/g이었으며, 술폰화 이온교환체와 아크릴산 이온교환체의 리튬이온에 대한 흡착량을 비교한 결과 본 연구에서 합성한 이온교환체의 흡착성이 우수한 것으로 나타났다.

Radiation induced synthesis of (gelatin-co-PVA)-g-poly (AAc) copolymer as wound dressing material

  • Copolymers of gelatin and poly (vinyl alcohol), (PVA) grafted by acrylic acid (AAc) with excellent water absorption and retention abilities under neutral conditions were successfully synthesized using $^{60}Co$ gamma radiations in presence of ammonium persulphate (APS), as water soluble initiator and sodium bicarbonate ($NaHCO_3$) as foaming agent. The optimum synthesis conditions pertaining to maximum swelling percentage were evaluated as a function of gelatin/PVA ratio, amount of water, concentration of APS, $NaHCO_3$, monomer concentration and total irradiation dose. Maximum percent swelling (1694.59%) of the copolymer, gelatin-co-PVA, was obtained at optimum $[APS]=2.92{\times}10^{-1}mol/L$, $[NaHCO_3]=7.94{\times}10^{-2}mol/L$ and 1.5 mL of water at total dose of 31.104 kGy while in case of grafted copolymer, (gelatin-co-PVA)-g-poly(AAc), maximum percent swelling (560.86%) was obtained using $8.014{\times}10^{-1}mol/L$ of AAc in 9 mL water with 31.104 kGy preirradiation dose. The pristine and grafted copolymers were characterized by Fourier Transform Infrared Spectroscopy (FTIR), Scanning electron Microscopy (SEM), Thermal gravimetric analysis (TGA) and X-Ray Diffraction (XRD) methods. The copolymers loaded with an antiseptic, Povidone, were used as wound dressing materials for wounded gastrocnemius muscle of mice and the results exhibit that (gelatin-co-PVA)-g-poly (AAc) copolymer is a potent wound dressing material as compared to the copolymer.

Investigation of flexural strength and cytotoxicity of acrylic resin copolymers by using different polymerization methods

  • PURPOSE. The aim of this study was to appraise the some mechanical properties of polymethyl methacrylate based denture base resin polymerized by copolymerization mechanism, and to investigate the cytotoxic effect of these copolymer resins. MATERIALS AND METHODS. 2-hydroxyethyl methacrylate (HEMA) and isobutyl methacrylate (IBMA) were added to monomers of conventional heat polymerized and injection-molded poly methyl methacrylate (PMMA) resin contents of 2%, 3%, and 5% by volume and polymerization was carried out. Three-point bending test was performed to detect flexural strength and the elasticity modulus of the resins. To determine the statistical differences between the study groups, the Kruskall-Wallis test was performed. Then pairwise comparisons were performed between significant groups by Mann-Whitney U test. Agar-overlay test was performed to determine cytotoxic effect of copolymer resins. Chemical analysis was determined by FTIR spectrum. RESULTS. Synthesis of the copolymer was approved by FTIR spectroscopy. Within the conventional heat-polymerized group maximum transverse strength had been seen in the HEMA 2% concentration; however, when the concentration ratio increased, the strength decreased. In the injection-molded group, maximum transverse strength had been seen in the IBMA 2% concentration; also as the concentration ratio increased, the strength decreased. Only IBMA showed no cytotoxic effect at low concentrations when both two polymerization methods applied while HEMA showed cytotoxic effect in the injection-molded resins. CONCLUSION. Within the limitations of this study, it may be concluded that IBMA and HEMA may be used in low concentration and at high temperature to obtain non-cytotoxic and durable copolymer structure.

시릴기를 함유하는 아크릴수지의 합성과 고내후성 도료로서의 거동 (Synthesis and Behavior of Silyl Group-Containing Acrylic Resins as Weather Resistant Coatings)

  • 고내후성 시릴기를 함유하는 아크릴수지 도료를 제조할 목적으로, 먼저 아크릴수지를 단량체 n-butyl methacrylate, methyl methacrylate, n-butyl acrylate 및 3-methacryloxypropyl-trimethoxysilane (MPTS)을 사용하여 이들을 부가중합시켜 얻었다. 아크릴 공중합체의$T_g$$20^{\circ}C$로 조정하면서 MPTS 함량을 10, 20, 30wt%로 변화시켜 합성하였다. 아크릴수지 합성에서 실리콘 성분인 MPTS 양이 많아질수록 점성도가 저하되었으며, 고온에서의 열적 안정성은 향상되었다. 한편 합성된 아크릴수지를 백색안료와 블렌드하여 도료를 제조한 후 도막물성을 시험한 결과, 여러 가지 피도물에 대하여 우수한 접착력을 보였고 기타의 물성들도 대체로 좋게 나타났다. 내후성 시험은 옥외폭로시험, WOM 및 QUV의 3종류로 하였는데, 각종 측정 수치로 보아 MPTS 함량 30wt%인 아크릴수지 도료는 고내후성 도료임이 확인되었다.

UV경화형 2-EHA/AA 점착제의 점착특성에 대한 경화제의 영향 (Effect of Crosslinking Agent on Adhesion Properties of UV Curable 2-EHA/AA Pressure Sensitive Adhesive)

  • UV경화형 2-ethylhexyl acrylate(2-EHA)/acrylic acid(AA) 점착제의 점착특성에 대한 경화제 함량의 영향에 대해 조사하였다. 0.01 wt%의 극소량의 MMT가 도입된 아크릴 단량체 혼합물에 각각 0, 0.05, 0.1, 0.3 wt%의 1,6-hexanediol diacrylate(HDDA)를 경화제로 첨가하고 UV조사를 실시하여 점착제를 제조하였다. MMT 도입이 공중합체의 경화 거동과 점착제의 표면 특성에 미치는 영향은 매우 낮았으나, 점착특성의 경우 MMT의 도입으로 분자 사슬의 유연성이 제한되면서 응집파괴(cohesive failure)가 억제되는 것을 확인하였다. 그러나 0.3 wt%의 경화제가 도입된 점착제는 사슬 경직성이 크게 증가하면서 MMT의 첨가가 오히려 점착특성을 저하시키는 것으로 추측되었다. 결과를 토대로 2-EHA/AA 점착제의 경우 0.05 wt%의 낮은 함량의 경화제와 극소량의 MMT의 도입이 박리 시 응집파괴 없이 균형적인 점착특성을 부여하는 것으로 판단된다.
