Poly(vinyl chloride) 가지형 공중합체를 이용한 수소이온 전도성 가교형 전해질막의 제조와 분석 (Preparation and Characterization of Proton Conducting Crosslinked Membranes Based On Poly(vinyl chloride) Graft Copolymer)

  • Poly(vinyl chloride) (PVC) 주사슬과 poly(hydroxyethyl acrylate) (PHEA) 곁사슬로 구성된 가지형 공중합체를 원자전달라디칼 중합을 통해 합성하였다. PVC의 2차 염소원자의 직접적인 개시반응에 의해 친수성인 PHEA 단량체를 그래프팅시켰다. 이렇게 합성된 PVC-g-PHEA을 술포석시닉산(SA)를 사용하여 가교시켰으며, 이는 가지형 공중합체의 -OH 그룹과 SA의 -COOH와의 에스테르 반응임을 FT-IR 분광법을 이용하여 분석하였다. 이온교환능(IEC)은 SA 함량이 증가함에 따라 계속하여 증가하여 0.87 meq/g까지 도달하였고, 이는 전해질막에 이온 그룹수가 증가하기 때문이다. 하지만, 함수 율은 SA 함량이 20 wt%까지는 증가하다 그 이상에서는 감소하였다. 또한 수소 이온 전도도도 SA 함량에 따라 증가하여 20 wt% SA 농도에서 0.025 S/cm의 최대값을 나타내었고, 이는 SA 함량이 증가함에 따라 이온 그룹의 수가 증가하는 효과와 가교가 증가하는 효과가 서로 경쟁적으로 일어나기 때문으로 사료된다.

  • In this study, various model composite latexes were synthesized using n-butyl acrylate and methyl methacrylate as comonomers by seeded multi-staged emulsion polymerization. Monodispersed model composite latex particles with size of 190 nm and polydispersity index of 1.05, which have various morphology including random copolymer particle, soft-core/hard-shell particle, hard-core/soft shell particle, and gradient-type copolymer particle, homopolymers particles were prepared. The designed morphology of model composite particles were confirmed.

Controlled synthesis of reactive polymeric architectures for stimuli-responsive materials

  • Various new active ester monomers based on (meth)acrylates and 4-vinylbenzoic acid have been prepared. Investigation of the controlled radical polymerization behavior of the respective monomers resulted in excellent polymerization control, thus, opening synthetic routes to reactive block copolymers. Polymer analogous reactions with amines yielded functional polymers. In the case of the copolymer poly(N-isopropylacrylamide-co-acetone oxime acrylate) a lower critical solution temperature could be measured at $52^{\circ}C$. Thus, the reactive copolymer features two characters: reactive AND stimuliresponsive behavior.

  • Well difined sulfonated styrene and n-butyl acrylate (nBA) block copolymers were synthesized by CuBr catalyzed living radical polymerization followed by acification by thermolysis. Neopentyl styrene sulfonate (NSS) was polymerized with PnBA macroinitator precursor ($M_{n}=19,500,\;PDI\;<\;1.09$) and CuBr catalyst with N,N,N',N' -pentamethylethyleneamine (PMDETA) to give nBA-NSS block copolymer with narrow polydispersity ($M_{n}=29,900,\;PDI\;<\;1.15$). PNSS segments in the block copolymer were then acidified by thermolysis at $150^{\circ}C$ resulting in polystyrene segments with 100 % sulfonic acid groups.

이타콘산을 함유한 폴리아크릴로니트릴 공중합체의 섬유제조 및 그 물성에 관한 연구 (A Study on Fiber Formation and Physical Properties of Polyacrylonitrile Copolymer with Itaconic acid)

  • A study has been made of the dry-jet-wet spinning of PAN copolymer fibers using 60% aqueous zinc chloride solution as solvent and 25∼40% aqueous zinc chloride solution as non-solvent. The technological characteristics of this method were that small streams of dope were extruded from the die and allowed to pass through a short distance of air gap(about 10mm) before entering the spinning bath for full coagulation. This work showed the importances which coagulation condition, stretch ratio and fiber tenacity up to 10.5 g/d could be obtained with elongation of 11∼16%. Individual fibers were evaluated on the basis of density and mechanical properties such as tenacity and elongation etc.

  • The effect of synthetic polymer membranes on the permeation rate of dideoxynucleoside-type anti-HIV drugs through hairless rat skin was studied using ethylene/vinyl acetate copolymer (EVA) and ethylene/methyl acrylate copolymer (EMA) membranes fabricated by solvent casting method. In vitro skin permeation kinetics study of DDC (2',3'-dideoxythymidine), DDI (2',3'-dideoxyinosine) and AZT (3'-azido-3'-deoxythymidine) across the (membrane/skin) composite was conducted for 24 hours at $37^{\circ}C$ using the Valia-Chien skin permeation system. The results showed that skin permeation rate of each drug across the (skin/membrane) composite was mainly dependent on the property of the membrane. Proper selection of the polymeric membrane which resembles hydrophilicity/lipophilicity of the delivering drug was important in controlling the skin permeation rate.

pH-민감성 삼성분계 공중합체 젤의 합성 및 팽윤 속도론 (Synthesis and Swelling Kinetics of a Cross-Linked pH-Sensitive Ternary Copolymer Gel System)

  • A pH sensitive ternary copolymer gel was synthesized in the presence of ethylene glycol dimethacrylate (EGDMA) as a crosslinking agent through radical polymerization of vinyl acetate (VA), acrylic acid (AA) and methyl acrylate(MA) with a weight ratio of 1 : 1.3 : 1. A number of experiments were carried out to determine the swelling behavior of the gel under a variety of pH conditions of the swelling medium. As the pH of the swelling medium was changed from 1.0 to 8.0 at $37^{\circ}C$, the gel showed a shift in the pH-dependent swelling behavior from Fickian (n=0.3447) to non-Fickian (n=0.9125). The resulting swelling parameters were analyzed using graphical and statistical methods. The results showed that the swelling of the gel was controlled by the pH of the medium, i.e. $n=n_o{\exp}(S_{C}pH)$, where n is the diffusion exponent, $n_o(=28.9645{\times}10^{-2})$ is the pre-exponential factor and $S_C$(=0.1417) is pH sensitivity coefficient. The swelling behavior of the gel was also examined in aliphatic alcohols. The results showed that the rate of swelling increased with increasing number of carbon atoms in the alcoholic molecular chain.

Preparation and Characterization of Proton Conducting Membranes by Blending PVC-g-PHEA and PVA

  • This work reports the preparation of proton conductive crosslinked polymer electrolyte membranes by blending poly(vinyl chloride)-g-poly(hydroxyl ethyl acrylate) (PVC-g-PHEA) and poly(vinyl alcohol) (PVA). The PHEA chains of the graft copolymer were crosslinked with PVA using sulfosuccinic acid (SA) via the esterification reaction between -OH of polymer matrix and -COOH of SA. The PVC-g-PHEA graft copolymer was synthesized via atom transfer radical polymerization (ATRP) using direct initiation of the secondary chlorines of PVC backbones. Ion exchange capacity (IEC) continuously increased with increasing concentrations of SA, due to the increasing portion of charged groups in the membrane. However, the water uptake increased up to 20.0 wt% of SA concentration above which it decreased monotonically. The membrane exhibited a maximum proton conductivity of 0.026 S/cm at 20.0 wt% of SA concentration, which is presumably due to competitive effect between the increase of ionic sites and the crosslinking reaction.

폴리카르본산계 고분자가 시멘트계 재료의 물성에 미치는 영향 (Effect of the Polycarboxylates on the Physical Properties of Cement Materials)

  • 폴리카르본산계 고분자는 분산성이 양호하고 시멘트계 재료에서 분산 유지성이 뛰어나므로 최근 콘크리트용 혼화제로 크게 주목을 끌고 있다. 따라서 본 연구에서는 시멘트콘크리트용 분산제로서 수평균 분자량(Mn)이 적당한 poly(acrylate-co-methyla-crylate)를 합성하여 시멘트 모르타르의 분산성과 기계적 물성에 미치는 영향에 대하여 연구하였다. 폴리카르본산계 고분자의 수평균 분자량이 2,000~3,000 보다 5,000 정도로 비교적 큰 polycarboxylate가 시멘트계 재료의 물성을 크게 향상시키며, 최적 첨가량은 시멘트 중량의 0.6% 이다. 그러나 poly(acrylate-co-methylacrylate)계 고분자는 시멘트 모르타르 반죽에서 흐름도의 경시변화가 큰 것으로 나타났으며, 이러한 현상은 폴리카르본산계 서방성 고분자가 시멘트계 재료에 사용되었을 때, 알칼리성 분위기에서 카르복실기의 서방성에 의해서 분산성이 지속적으로 유지된다는 기존의 이론과 다르다.
