  • The aim of this study was to determine principal non-acoustical factors for noise annoyance in the vicinity of Kimpo Airport in Seoul, Korea. Noise annoyance was estimated using self-reported annoyance scale. We have conducted a social survey aiming to identify the main sound sources, evaluate the annoyance and analyse the main effects of noise on people. Acoustical and non-acoustical variables are expected to greatly affect annoyance responses. This study divided acoustical variables into aircraft, road traffic and neighboring noises, and non-acoustical variables into demographic, situational and attitudinal variables. The study performed multiple regression analysis to determine the influences each variable has on annoyance responses. Acoustical variables affect noise annoyance to aircraft and neighboring noise except road traffic noise. For road traffic and neighboring noise annoyance was affected by non-acoustical variable, insulation by housing type. For aircraft noise, main noise source of this area, annoyance was affected by acoustical variable and some non-acoustical variables, mainly exposure time.

  • In speech signal processing, it is necessary to detect exactly the pitch. The algorithms of pitch extraction which have been proposed until now are difficult to detect pitches over wide range speech signals. Thus we propose a new algorithm which uses the G-peak extraction to do it. It is the method that finds the most MZI(maximum zero-crossing interval) at each frame and convolve it with speech signal ; this is the same with passing speech signals to variable LPF. Finally we obtained the pitch, improve the accuracy of pitch detection and extract it with the high speed.

  • This paper presents a variable rate speech coding method with phonetic segmentation, called for PSVXC. Multiple access techniques that require efficient encoding of speech to achieve capacity improvements are currently emerging in the cellular telephone system. The variable rate speech coder have the reduced average data rate required to transmit conversational speech. Each frame of active speech is classified into one of four phonetic classes. A distinct coding configuration and bit-rate is applied to each category. And also a split vector quantization is used to accurately quantize the LPC information using LSP parameters.

  • Absorption silencer is one of the most noise reduction devices and covered a wide range of noise matters. On account of the acoustical properties of absorption silencers depend on variable factor and complex matters, the design of silencers couldn't to be exact in various fields. In this study, we predicted the acoustical properties of absorptive silencers based on measured data and assumed how the acoustical properties is changed following baffle thickness, variable baffle form and open area. Also we recorded the pressure drop at each other. So it may a great help to engineer who install and design a silencer in various fields.

  • Ryu et al. recently proposed a multiple target angle-tracking algorithm without a data association problem. This algorithm, however, shows the degraded performance on evasive maneuvering targets, because the estimated signal subspace is d,:graded in the algorithm. In this Paper, we proposed a new algorithm, in which VFF-PASTd (Variable Forgetting Factor PASTd) algorithm is applied to Ryu's algorithm to effectively handle the evasive target tracking with better time-varying signal subspace.

  • This paper reports on the optimal design of the excitation codebook in the 13 kbps variable rate QCELP coder of Korean speech. We present two optimal excitation codebooks which consist of 128 and 556 samples, respectively. For the design and test of the improved codebook, a data base of Korean speech is used. A quasi-Newton optimization algorithm was developed to design the codebook. The optimized codebook which remains sparse, can produce an average gain of 0.84 and 0.45 dB in SNR and SEGSNR respectively. Informal listening tests confirm the improvement in speech quality.

  • A frequency-variable ultrasonic vibrator is designed, which is made of a multi-layered PZT vibrator with a conical horn. Transmission line equations for the conical horn are derived and analyzed using the equivalent circuit method in order to analyze the characteristics of the vibrator. The controllability of the driving characteristics by varying the electrical impedance is confirmed by the experimental results of the free admittance characteristics and the vibrational velocity distributions.

  • In this paper, a variable time-scale modification using SOLA is proposed, which takes into consideration the different time-scaled characteristics of voiced and unvoiced speech. The conventional method performs time-scale modifiction at a uniform rate for all speech. For this purpose, voiced and unvoiced speech duration at various taling speeds were statistically analyzed. A clipping autocorrelation functio was applied to each analysis frame to detemine voiced and unvoiced speech to obtain respective variation rates. The results were used to perform variable time-scale modification to evaluate performance, a MOS test was conducted to compare the proposed voiced/unvoiced variable time-scale modification and the uniform SOLA method. Results indicate that the proposed method produces sentence quality superior to that of the conventional method.

  • Recently, 8 kb/s CS-ACELP coder of G.729 is atandardized by ITU-T SG15 and it has been reported that the speech quality of G729 is better than or equal to that of 32kb/s ADPCM. However G.729 is the fixed rate speech coder, and it does not consider the property of voice activity in mutual conversation. If we use the voice activity, we can reduce the average bit rate in half without any degradations of the speech quality. In this paper, we propose an efficient variable rate algorithm for G.729. The variable rate algorithm consists of two main subjects, the rate determination algorithm and algorithm, we combine the energy-thresholding method, the phonetic segmentation method by integration of various feature parameters obtained through the analysis procedure, and the variable hangover period method. Through the analysis of noise features, the 1 kb/s sub rate coder is designed for coding the background noise signal. So, we design the 4 kb/s sub rate coder for the unvoiced parts. The performance of the variable rate algorithm is evaluated by the comparison of speed quality and average bit rate with G.729. Subjective quality test is also done by MOS test. Conclusively, it is verified that the proposed variable rate CS-ACELP coder produced the same speech quality as G.729, at the average bit rate of 4.4 kb/s.
