  • Recently sewage facilities mainly consisted of concrete structures are being deteriorated seriously by biodeterioration originated from sulfur-oxidizing bacteria. To prevent biochemical corrosion of the sewage concrete, antibiotics which prevent growth of sulfur-oxidizing bacteria were developed. Existing methods to evaluate properties of biochemical corrosion of concrete examine the antimicrobial performance and resistance to sulfuric acid separately, but don't complexly. So, in this study, new method to test properties of biochemical corrosion of concrete complexly is suggested.

  • The primary insulation materials used in an oil filled transformer are kraft paper, wood, porcelain and oil. Modern transformers use chemically treated paper to improve its tensile strength and resistance to aging caused by immersion in oil. But these insulation papers are mainly aged by thermal stress. Over the life time of the insulation paper and oil, it is exposed to high temperatures, oxygen and water. Its interaction with the steel of the tank and core plus the copper and aluminium of the windings will eventually cause the chemical properties of the oil to decay. High temperature have an effect on mechanical strength of cellulous paper used in the layer insulation. We made two aging cells in which insulation papers and mineral oil are conducted to test thermal properties. It is measured dielectric strength, number of acid, moisture, etc. of insulation paper and oil aged in the aging cells.

  • Silicon carbide (SiC) is a candidate material for heat exchangers for VHTR (Very High Temperature Gas Cooled Reactor) due to its refractory nature and high thermal conductivity. This research has focused on demonstration of physical properties and mock-up fabrication for the future heat exchange applications. It was found that the SiC-based components can be applied for process heat exchanger (PHE) and intermediate heat exchanger (IHX), which are operated at $400{\sim}1000^{\circ}C$, based on our examination for the following aspects: optimum fabrication technologies (design, machining and bonding) for compact design, thermal conductivity, corrosion resistance in sulfuric acid environment at high temperature, and simulation results on heat transferring and thermal stress distribution of heat exchanger mock-up.

  • 잉크젯용 저온 Cu ink의 소성 특성을 향상 시키기 위해 소성 분위기롤 조절 하였다. 일반적으로 Cu는 산화가 잘되는 물질로 환원 분위기에서 소성이 이루어져야만 하기 때문에 acid, alcohol, aldehyde, ether와 같은 환원제를 소성시 사용하였다. 또한 1종의 환원제가 아닌 2종의 환원제롤 일정 비율로 섞음으로써 환원력를 조절하여 소성 품질을 향상 시킬 수 있었으며, 이러한 환원 분위기 조절을 통하여 300도 이하 저온에서 소성이 가능하였다. 또한 optical microscopy와 field emission scanning electron microscopy를 통해 막 품질과 미세조직의 치밀도를 확인하였고 배선 재료로써의 적용을 위해 resistance를 측정 비교하였다.

  • The tribological properties of amphiphilic monolayers and composite multilayer on silicon surface were investigated using micro-tribometer and Auger Electron Spectroscopy. Langmuir-Blodgett (LB) monolayers from behenic acid. 2.4-heneicosanedione(HD) and its copper complex((HD)$_2$Cu) were fabricated on silicon surface and the composite multilayer of 5-bilayer of (HD)$_2$Cu was fabricated on the surface of octadecyltrichlorsilane (OTS) self-assembled monolayer(SAM). We observed that LB monolayers and the composite multilayer exhibited a steady and excellent friction response when compared with the OTS SAM. These LB mono and multilayer also showed much higher wear-resistance than the OTS SAM.

  • Six corrosion inhibitors for cooling water use were evaluated by means of a corrosometer in a laboratory bench scale test. A steel probe (Alloy 1020) was exposed and checked for the extent of corrosion in a recirculating water system, changing inhibitors and their concentrations at $40^{\circ}C$. A 95% inhibition was provided at the following concentrations of inhibitors. 50 ppm sodium hexametaphosphate 50 ppm commercial inhibitor A 50 ppm commercial inhibitor B 100 ppm disodium phosphate 200 ppm sodium chromate Sodium silicate was found to be use-less in this test. It was also observed that some inhibitors worked less effectively on the acid-cleaned steel probe.

Synthesis of BiSrCaCu(Ni)O Ceramics from the Gel Precursors and the Effect of Ni Substitution

  • Superconducting BiSrCaCu(Ni)O ceramicss have been prepared by the gel method using an aqueous solution containing a tartaric acid. The aqueous solution of metal salts was concentrated without precipitation. The precursor so prepared was homogeneou s and calcined at $825^{\circ}C$ for 24 h to produce superconducting phase. The thermal decomposition of gels, the formation of superconducting phase, and their ceramic microstructure were studied using IR, TGA, XRD, resistance measurements, and SEM. This method is highly reproducible and leads to powders with excellent homogeneity and small particle size for easy sinterability. The nickel dopant substituting for Cu gives rise to the gradual decrease of the Tc. Phase pure 2212 ceramics were obtained at 825 $^{\circ}C$ for 24 h. SEM pictures showed that liquid phase was formed when the samples were sintered temperatures higher than 825 $^{\circ}C$.

리팜피신에 내성인 Bifidobacterium bifidum 균주개발 (Development of Bifidobacterium bifidum Strains Resistant to Rifampicin)

  • Bifidobacterium bifidum, one strain of medical preparations being on the market for human intestinal disorder, is very sensitive to rifampicin. If this preparation is taken with rifampicin, its therapeutic effect can't be expected. To develope rifampicin resistant mutants, B. bifidum was treated with N-methyl-N'-nitro-N-nitrosoguanidine(MNNG). All of thirty strains grown on the plates containing 10 $\mu\textrm{g}$/ml rifampicin were over 1, 000 times more resistant to rifampicin than parental strain and they were identified as B. bifidum by fructose-6-phosphoate phosphoketolase test. Three strains out of thirty, which produced almost same amount of organic acid as parental strain, were selected for further studies. They showed identical growth inhibition activity aganist E. coli compared with that of parental strain. And rifampicin was not inactivated.

  • This experiment was executed to investigate the characteristics of gloss and color difference in coated films by N.C. Lacquer, Aminoalkyd, Polyester. and Polyurethan coating after chemical (distilled water, ethyl alcohol. acetic acid, and sodium hydroxide) and heating ($120^{\circ}C$) treatments, cold-check test, and U.V. radiation. The results obtained were summarized as follows 1. The gloss decreasing rate by water resistance test was the least among chemicals treated on coated films. 2. The color difference of coated films chemical treatments highly and similarly increased, except the alkali treatment showing a little increase. 3. In the color difference by U.V. radiation, the polyester coated film showed generally large difference compared with the other coated films.
