Two kinds of nylon 6 fabrics with different fiber denier, such as ultramicro fiber(UMF) nonwoven fabric(monodenier 0.05d) and regular fabric(monodenier 2.92d) are dyed with C.I. Acid Red 18(leveling type) and C.I. Acid Blue 113(milling type). Dyeing rates and adsorption isotherms are measured at $60^\circ{C}$, pH 5.0 and at liquor ratio of 1 : 250. To investigate the effect of fixing agents (Matexil FA-SNX, Monorex-RD and Tinofix-ECO) on UMF nylon 6 nonwoven fabric, dyeing is carried out at 3~10% owf with 1 : 2 metal-complex acid dyes, such as Kayalax Navy R(unsulphonated type), Lanasyn Blue S-BL(monosulphonated type) and Kayakalan Black BGL(disulphonated type). The dyeing rate of UMF nylon 6 is faster than that of regular nylon 6. From the results of absorption isotherms, the regular nylon 6 has higher saturation value of Acid Red 18 compared with UMF nylon 6, whereas UMF nylon 6 has higher saturation value of the acid Blue 113. From the absorption isotherms of both acid dyes, the regular nylon 6 has higher saturation value of Acid Red 18, whereas UMF nylon 6 has higher saturation value of the acid Blue 113. The wash fastnesses of UMF nylon 6 increases in the order of metal-complek dye containing nonsulphonated group > monosulphonated group>disulphonated group. Aftertreatment of UMF nylon 6 dyed with unsulponated and monosulphonated dyes improves wash fastness upto grade 1.5, where as that of UMF nylon 6 dyes with disulphonated dye does not improve wash fastness.
The dyeability of poly(lactic acid) [PLA] with a range of commercial disperse dye was examined and compared to that of poly(ethylene terephthalate) [PET] in addition to the colour and fastness of the resultant dyeings. A screening exercise in which twenty dyes of differing energy types and chemical classes were applied to PLA revealed a substantial variation between the dyes in terms of dye uptake (12-88 % at 4 % o.w.f.). Nine dyes exhausted above 70 % and were selected for further study, which involved comparison of shade and fastness of PLA dyeings with those of the corresponding PET dyeings. Differences in shade depended on hue while wet fastness of each of the PLA dyeings was either the same or 0.5-1.0 point lower than its PET counterpart. In all but one case, dye photostability in PLA was found to be very similar to that in PET. Dye build-up profiles on PLA were also investigated and from these results mixtures of compatible dyes identified.

The Photocatalytic decolorization and degradation of commercial dyes were studied using a batch reactor. Degussa P25 titanium dioxide and $H_2O_2$ were used as the photocatalyst and proved to be effective for dyes degradation when they were irradiated with UV light. The light source was a 20W low pressure mercury lamp. Three different kinds of dyes, such as direct dye(congo red), acid dye (acid black) and disperse dye(disperse blue) were tested. Extending the UV only treatment up to 120min, direct dye was decolorized to 60% and degraded to 30% as COD. On the other side, acid and disperse dyes were eliminated less than 10% as color and COD. But, color and COD were eliminated about 90% for all of the three dyes by $UV/H_2O_2$ system. And then the most effective decolorization was done for direct dye with 96% removal efficiency by $UV/TiO_2$ system at 120min with 500mg/L of $TiO_2$.

The adsorption ability of dyes on chitin, a natural polymer was investigated for decolorization of dye wastewater. Chitin was manufactured in lab by decalcification in dilute aqueous HCI solution and deproteination in dilute aqueous NaOH solution with shrimp shells. Absorbance of residue solution of dyebaths after dye adsorptions of chitin were measured in varieties of dye concentration and dipping periods. Four kinds of dyestuffs were used, C.I.Acid Blue 29. C.I.Direct Blue 6, C.I.Reactive Orange 12 and C.I.Basic Red 18. When chtin 1g was dipped in 0.05% of dyebath with stirring, maximum adsorption ratio of each kind of dyes was exhibited as 91.6% for C.I.Acid Blue 29, 95% for C.I.Direct Blue 6, 58.2% for C.I.Reactive Orange 13 and 75.8% for C.I.Basic Red 19. It shows that chitin has better adsorption abilities of ionic dyes of acid, direct and basic dye than non-ionic reactive dye. And chitin has better adsorption abilities of anionic acid direct dyes than cationic basic dye because of the presence of nitrogen atoms. All kinds of dyestuffs used showed speedy absorption effects by chitin, so chitin can absorb much amount of dyes in 5 mimutes reach to equilibrium of adsorption in 2 hours after dipping. Basic dye was absorbed the most speedily in 5 minutes, although maximum adsorption ratio is not high. That reason can be thought that chitin surface is essentially negatively charged due to polar funtional groups.
red 1 and acid blue 92, anionic dyes, were removed from synthetic wastewater by the surfactant-modified clay minerals. Two different clays, such as Korean clay(M78) and Japanese clay(KJ) were treated with three different sulfactants, CTMA, DSDMA and TMSA. The surfactant-modified clay minerals such as M-1(CTMA), M-3(TMSA), KJ-1(CTMA) and KJ-3(TMSA), showed high removal efficiencies with dyes, while M-2(DSDMA) and KJ-2(DSDMA) could adsorb both dyes with relatively low efficiencies. Furthermore, almost 100% absorption of both dyes onto M-1(CTMA) and KJ-3(TMSA) revealed the possibility that these materials can be used for the removal of hazardous organic dyes from wastewater.

Research and development of nano fiber products is very active over the world. Physical characteristics and dyeing properties of nylon 66 nano fiber were investigated in this study. X-ray diffraction, DSC, analysis of amino end group, and water absorption were performed to get information concerning physical properties of nano fiber. Nylon 66 nano fiber was dyed with high molecular mass acid dyes. Effects of dyeing temperature, pH of dyeing solution, and concentration of acid dyes on dyeing properties such as rate of dyeing and the extent of exhaustion, were examined and compared to those of regular fiber. It was found that nano fiber adsorbed acid dyes at lower temperature, got rapidly dyed, and its extents of exhaustion at specific dyeing temperature were higher than regular fiber. It was also observed that nano fiber could adsorb a large amount of acid dye without a significant loss in the extent of exhaustion. Washing fastness of the dyed nano fiber was lower by $1/2\~1$ grade, light fastness by 1 grade than the dyed regular fiber.
Well known environmental wastes from dye industry were separated by the micellar electrokinetic capillary chromatography(MECC). These wastes include H-acid modifier and 2-naphthylamine-1,5-disulfonic acid, and are known to be the diazo components of the azo dye. The results of the separation were compared with the result obtained by the HPLC using ion-pairing mechnism. MECC method was also applied to separate a few direct dyes including Direct Blue 2, Direct Blue 6 and Direct Blue 15, and reactive dye such as Reactive Orange 4. Informations about the diazo components of any azo dye could be obtained by comparison of electropherogram of the reduction solution of given dye with those obtained from standard materials such as H-acid, J-acid, ${\gamma}$-acid, orthanilic acid, sulfanilic acid and 2-naphthylamine-1,5-disulfonic acid which are used as diazo components of the typical azo dyes. It has been concluded that MECC and HPLC with ion-pairing mechanism could be successfully applied for the analysis of unknown dyes and their diazo components.

The study has attempted to compare the behavior of reactive, disperse and acid dyes when wastewater from these three kinds of typical dyestuffs were treated by chemical coagulation and NF membrane in pilot scale. Disperse dyeing wastewater showed the tendency of easier removal in TOC and COD and especially in color. This is probably due to low water-solubility of disperse dyes compared with reactive and acid dyes and is a positive result in terms of water reuse. Bio-kinetic constants, ${\mu}$max, $K_s$ of reactive, disperse and acid dyes were obtained, implying that their biodegradability are not significantly different.
Dyeings of the most widely used to the synthetic fibers, namely polyamide and polyester, have been carried out using acid dyes and disperse dyes. The above mentioned dye types, and indeed all dyes onto substrates, rely on the reaction properties between the substrates and dye molecules. In terms of fastness properties, however, especially to washings, the satisfactory levels are not present in the results from acid and disperse dyeings. Thus, vat dyeings leaves a feasibility and are an alternative way to overcome the problem. Although attempts and works have been reported in early years, with little if any commercial achievement and success. In this context, to meet increased demands towards a high level of wash fastness from consumers and retailers, an attempt using vat dyes has been carried out in this work.
Abstract-Many studies have been carried out to improve the dyeability of anionic dyes onto cellulosic fibers. Modification of control using cationic compounds has been most widely used. In this study, an effort was made to cationize cotton fabrics using cellulose-reactive allylamine polymer, namely triazinyl N,N'-dimethyl-N,N'-diallyl ammonium chloride in the previous work. The results showed that the dye-uptake of treated cotton fabrics with acid dyes and reactive dyes markedly increased in the various dyeing conditions. In addition, the dyeing rate of cationized cotton was also faster than that of untreated counterpart. Furthermore, the antimicrobial property was also investigated to determine the effects of cationization.
