Revising the Occupational Safety and Health Act led to enacting and revising related laws and systems, such as placing fire observers in hot workplaces. However, the operating standards in such cases are still ambiguous. Although fire accidents occur through multiple and multi-step factors, the hazards of fire accidents have been identified in this study as individual rather than interrelated factors. The aim has been to identify multiple factors of accidents, outlining fire and explosion accidents that recently occurred in the domestic manufacturing industry. First, major keywords were extracted through text mining. Then representative accident types were derived by combining the main keywords through the co-word network analysis to identify the hazards and their relationships. The representative fire accidents were identified as six types, and their major hazards were then addressed for improving safety measures using the identification of hazards in the "Risk Assessment" tool. It is found that various safety measures, such as professional fire observers' training and clear placement standards, are needed. This study will provide useful basic data for revising practical laws and guidelines for fire accident prevention, system supplementation, safety policy establishment, and future related research.
The speed is one of the significant factors affecting accident occurrence. In particular, freeway accidents are highly associated with the speed because vehicles travel on the freeway at higher speed leading to greater potential of severer injury. Efforts attempting to relating speed with accident occurrence have not been significantly made in Korea. The objective of this study is to model the relationship between speed and accident rate on freeways. Loop detector data and accident data obtained from a stretch of Kyungboo freeway during the recent five years, 2005-2009, were used to establish the model. Multiple linear regression analyses showed that median, minimum and standard deviation of speed were contributing variables in the model. The statistical significance identified by the analyses supports the feasibility of the model in evaluating various transportation policies and operations strategies in terms of traffic safety.
Following after the Chernobyl accident. the response to the large scale nuclear accidents became a clear example to show how these accidents affect the public information that strongly depend on political, economical, and social factors. Futhermore, in present day although we live in the era of various information, as far as the problem of nuclear is concerned, the acceptance of the source of Information is always apt to limited. Therefore, in this investigations, as a case study, an attempt is to make the method of minimizing and a preparation to cope with the grope of countermeasure for psychologically unsettled and disordered problems that accepted from both of the unconfirmed and of the exaggerated circumstantial report of mass media as well as a clue to the probability under the condition of existence of major and minor nuclear accidents. In the present paper, it also intends to establish the terminology that covered all the part of nuclear field use in a writing guideline to the scientific column of nuclear accident as shown in the table. and several methodology in relation to the report tendency of mass communication in nuclear accident and the standpoint of public acceptance from a intrinsic point of view are discussed.
This study was conducted to develop a methodology to predict utility pole accident rates and to evaluate cost-effectiveness for safety improvement for utility pole accidents. The utility pole accident rate prediction model was based on the encroachment rate approach introduced in the Transportation Research Board Special Report 214. The utility pole accident rate on a section of highway depends on the roadside encroachment rate and the lateral extent of encroachment. The encroachment rate is influenced by the horizontal and vertical alignment of the highway as well as traffic volume and mean speed. The lateral extent of encroachment is affected by the horizontal and vertical alignment, the mean speed and the roadside slope. An analytical method to generate the probability distribution function for the lateral extent of encroachment was developed for six kinds of encroachment types by the horizontal alignment and encroachment direction. The encroachment rate was calibrated with the information on highway and roadside conditions and the utility pole accident records collected on the sections of 55mph speed limit of the State Trunk Highway 12 in Wisconsin. The encroachment rate on a tangent segment was calibrated as a function of traffic volume with the actual average utility pole accident rates by traffic volume strategies. The adjustment factors for horizontal and vertical alignment were then derived by comparing the actual average utility pole accident rates to the estimations from the model calibrated for tangent and level sections. A computerized benefit-cost analysis procedure was then developed as a means of evaluating alternative countermeasures. The program calculates the benefit-cost ratio and the percent of reduction of utility pole accidents resulting from the implementation of a safety improvement. This program can be used to develop safety improvement: alternatives for utility pole accidents when a predetermined performance level is specified.
The purpose of this study was to determine how often toddlers and preschoolers in kindergartens have accidents and what factors affect the accident rate. The study population consisted of 150 children who were attending at nursery schools and 150 children who were attending at kindergartens. The data was collected from ten nursery schools and five kindergartens from five districts in Daegu. The questionnaires were distributed to teachers of participating nursery schools and kindergartens to be completed using nursing care records in the institutions and by interviewing children's parents about all of the accidents happened in a previous year. Data were collected during the period of August 1 through 31, 2002. The results of the study are as follow: 1. Among 300 children, 282 had 506 accidental injuries during the study period. 2. The month, the day and the time with the highest accident rate were April. Monday, and between 2 and 4 o'clock in the afternoon, respectively. 3. Locations where the injury took place most included nursery schools or kindergartens, around the homes of the children, and inside the home. 4. Most accidents were occurred due to lack of carefulness of the children, and the most prevalent forms of injury was abrasions. 5. Most frequently injured part of the body was legs of the children. 6. Most injuries were healed within three days and required first aid measures to disinfect the wound. Mostly, these were performed by family members at home. Some children go to the hospital to suture the open wound. Most frequent type of complication was scar formation and the cost of the treatment ranged from 9,000 to 30,000 won. 7. Children's age. sex, birth order. personality. type of family composition. type of residency. father's occupation, father's age, and mother's age were significantly related to the frequency of injury among children. Children who were in nursery schools and kindergartens need their assessment for accident involving condition according to seasons, time. place. This study provided a very useful and important data to prepare accident prevention education program and accident prevention strategies, and to develop Injury Surveillance System.

Objective : This study examined psychiatric characteristics of wounded persons of Daegu subway fire accident occurring in February 2003 after six years. Methods : 103 wounded persons completed psychometric measures at 2 months and 6 years after the accident. Changes of psychiatric symptoms were compared and factors affecting post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD) seriousness were examined. Results : In Minnesota Multiphasic Personality Inventory, the scores of Psychopathic Deviate (Pd), Masculinity/ Femininity (Mf), Social Introversion (Si) scales were significantly changed over time. The scores of Symptoms Checklist-90-Revision subscales were mostly decreased over time, however, paranoid ideation (PAR) subsclae scores were not significantly changed over time. In all of the State-Trait Anxiety Inventory (STAI)-State, Beck Depression Inventory, Impact of Event Scale, and PTSD Checklist-Civilian, mean scores at 6 years after the accident were significantly lower than those at 2 months after the accident. However, STAI-Trait score was not significantly changed over time. Total seriousness of PTSD was found to be affected by quality of sleep. Conclusions : Psychiatric symptoms of subjects were largely improved over time, but distrust and doubt of others were continued. In addition, the wounded persons suffered from sleep problems. Therefore, early and continuous interventions of public institutions and public health specialists are needed for the wounded persons with chronic psychiatric disorders.
On the Pre-Housing-Sale Systems there are many risks that developers might not fulfill the pre-sale obligations. In korea, in order to protect the people who bought houses from these risk, the Housing Sold Guarantee System was introduced and has been operated. Even though this system if there is accident in the pre-sale warranty business, several problems, such as damages caused to the people who bought the houses, occurs. Therefore, research is needed to Housing Sold Guarantee accident factor. But there are few study about it. This study attempted to analyze influencers on the possibility of the accident. We employ 3,026 data which Korea Housing Guarantee Co., Ltd manages and analyze them empirically, using business characteristics, housing market characteristics, and regional characteristics. Especially this study used to the binary logistic regression model. The results of analysis showed that the accident rate of Housing Sold Guarantee had been effected on the business type, house type, project financing guarantee, operator credit rating, housing market, and regional characteristics.
For 5 years and 6 months, ranging from January 2003 to June 2008, SPSS 12.0 Statistical Program was used to analyze the overall analysis, analysis of center line encroachment, analysis of signal violations, analysis of drinking while intoxicated, analysis of driving without license, analysis of two-wheel vehicle, analysis of pedestrian, analysis of safety equipment, analysis of traffic publicity or education and automobile registration accounts, and casualty of traffic accidents that are determined as having statistical implication based on the statistics available from the policy to take a look at traffic accident in the Daejeon area, and there were some meaningful results. With the proof that there is a certain level of ratio for the correlations between traffic control and traffic accident that the effect of traffic control has shown with certain time interval. The relationship of traffic control and the casualty of traffic accident has very low coefficient of correlations that it is not statistically noticeable that traffic control of the police has almost no effect in preventing traffic accident. This is a display of the fact that the conversion of direction for traffic safety measure undertaken to this point is rather urgent that there is a dire need of establishing the effective alternatives.
Purpose: This study was attempted to provide the basic data in order to develop a supportive system for the family by investigation of the general and disability-related features of the industrial accident disabled and their family function. Method: Three hundred and forty six industrial accident disabled were randomly selected among those who resided in the Seoul, Incheon, and Gyeonggi areas, and who were confirmed as disabled according to its severity from the first to fourteenth grade from January, 1998 to December, 2000. The data were collected for one month from August 1 to August 31, 2001. Each study team consisted of two members out of 20 researchers and they interviewed the disabled individually by visiting their homes. Collected data were analyzed using frequency, percentages, t-test, ANOVA, and Correlation, etc. Results: The average score for family function was 102.60. The adaptability represented the highest score among the concepts dependent on the family function. The concepts were cohesion, adaptability and communication, which scored as 33.59, 35.38, 33.34, respectively. The family function was significantly different in education, marital status and subjective health status. In particular, the family function was excellent from the industrial accident disabled who had graduated from middle school, was married, and felt healthy. Depression and quality of life were other factors, which were also correlated significantly with the family function. The lower the degree of depression and the better the quality of life, the better the family function. Conclusion: The industrial accident disabled who had been in poor health or faced with difficulties in daily activities even after the therapy for the disability was completed. In particular, their family always had a great burden to care for the disabled and to take financial responsibility. Therefore, the rehabilitation program for the disabled should be family oriented.
