Aramid fibers are being used increasingly in a wide range of application due to low density, high specific strength, high modulus, and high thermal resistance. But owing to its special physical and chemical structures, it is sensitive to absorb the ultraviolet light which will degrade the fiber's useful mechanical properties and structure. In this paper, the sol-gel technique was used to improve the photo-stability of p-aramid fibers. $TiO_2$, modified $SiO_2$/$TiO_2$ sol were used as coating solutions. The influence of the such coatings on the photo-stability of p-aramid fiber was investigated by an accelerated photo-ageing method using xenon lamp. The photo-stability of p-aramid fiber showed obvious improvement after the modified silica binding coating. But the amorphous $TiO_2$ sol coatings showed a negative effect. After 144h light exposure, the modified silane binder-coated fibers showed less degradation in mechanical properties with the retained tensile strength greater than about 70% of the original value.

In manufacture of slurry fuel, the effects of process parameters on the carbon dispersion stability have been investigated. The particle size and contents of the carbon slurry taken from 3 (top, medium, bottom) positions in fuel reservoir were analyzed to estimate the dispersion of the carbon in Jet A-1. Through the application of various additives, it was found that NB463S84 additive showed the best dispersion and stability of carbon at accelerated gravity condition. The mixer performance was compared by the observation of height change of carbon-containing layer and measurement of particle sizes at the same conditions. Application of the mixing conditions obtained from the lab-scale to bench scale manufacture confirmed the practical feasibility of our research.
Surgery first approach in orthognathic surgery is to proceed the orthognathic surgery without preoperative orthodontic treatment. This approach has many advantages, which include a shorter total treatment period, a high level of patient satisfaction due to immediate post-surgical facial improvement, easy postoperative orthodontic treatment due to early normalization of skeletal muscle, and the rapid tooth movement reflecting the regional accelerated phenomenon. However instability due to transient occlusal interference after surgery make worse of long-term skeletal stability. Especially increasing of vertical occlusion caused by interference of interbicupid and molar happen postsurgical skeletal change. Until now, there is no common consensus about treatment protocol of surgery first approach in orthognathic surgery. The purpose of this paper is to introduce our treatment protocol of the surgery first approach and to evaluate indication and limitation with case analysis.

In this paper, the convergence and the learning accuracy of the back-propagation (BP) method in neural network are investigated by 1) analyzing the reason for decelerating the convergence of BP method and examining the rapid deceleration of the convergence when the learning is executed on the part of sigmoid activation function with the very small first derivative and 2) proposing the modified logistic activation function by defining, the convergence factor based on the analysis. Learning on the output patterns of binary as well as analog forms are tested by the proposed method. In binary output patter, the test results show that the convergence is accelerated and the learning accuracy is improved, and the weights and thresholds are converged so that the stability of neural network can be enhanced. In analog output patter, the results show that with extensive initial transient phenomena the learning error is decreased according to the convergence factor, subsequently the learning accuracy is enhanced.
We evaluated mineralogical, physical property and accelerated weather resistance of cinnabar, realgar and orpiment used as cultural heritages and traditional paintings. JB and JS are sample names of cinnabar and JH and UH are sample names of orpiment and Realgar, respectively. As a result of mineralogical property evaluation, Jinsa was identified cinnabar (HgS) and there was no difference in chemical composition according to the grade. UH and JH were confirmed realgar (AsS) and orpiment (As2S3), respectively. The polarization characteristics such as shape and color indicate that pigments using our test were natural mineral pigment observed by polarization microscope. Especially, in the case of cinnabar, it is not easy to distinguish between natural mineral pigment and synthetic pigment. But the results of polarization microscope said that cinnabar is natural occurring mineral which have authentic mineral particle and unevenly fracture. As a result of thermal analysis, JH has a higher glass transition temperature and heat stability than UH. After accelerated weather test, cinnabar, realgar and orpiment were striking result in color change because of light degradation. Red color of cinnabar turn into black and the color of realgar and orpiment became brighter than before. JB (meta-cinnabar) is more photosensitivity and faster becoming dark than JB (cinnabar). Finally light transforms realgar (red, As4S4) in arsenolite (As2O3).
The thermal decomposition behavior and degradation characteristics off our different thermotropic liquid crystalline polymers (TLCPs) were studied. The thermal decomposition behavior was determined by means of thermogravimetric analysis (TGA) at different heating rates in nitrogen and air. The order of the thermal stability was as follows: multi-aromatic polyester > hydroxybenzoic acid (HBA)/hydroxynaphthoic acid (HNA) copolyester > HNA/hydroxyl acetaniline (HAA)/terephthalic acid (TA) copolyester > HBA/Poly(ethylene terephthalate) (PET) copolyester. The activation energies of the thermal degradation were calculated by four multiple heating rate methods: Flynn-Wall, Friedman, Kissinger, and Kim-Park. The Flynn-Wall and Kim-Park methods were the most suitable methods to calculate the activation energy. Samples were exposed to an accelerated degradation test (ADT), under fixed conditions of heat ($63{\pm}3^{\circ}C$), humidity ($30{\pm}4%$) and Xenon arc radiation ($1.10\;W/m^2$), and the changes in surface morphology and color difference with time were determined. The TLCPs decomposed, discolored and cracked upon exposure to ultraviolet radiation.
To investigate the interaction of omeprazole (OMP) and meglumine (MEG), a complex was prepared by freeze-drying method in ammoniacal aqueous medium at room temperature and subjected to IR, DSC, and 1H NMR analysis. In addition, the stability of the complex was tested by accelerated stability analysis, and the dissolution rate of both powder and enteric coated was determined pellet by paddle method. The results are as follows; i) IR, DSC, and $^{1}H$ NMR studies indicate the formation of inclusion complex between OMP and MEG probably by electrostatic forces as $[OMP]\;[MEGH]^+$ form in a stoichiometric ratio (1:1) of OMP : MEG. ii) The dissolution rate of enteric coated OMP-MEG complex pellet in simulated enteric fluid was 90.6% in 10 minutes, which may satisfy the requirement for the regulation of dissolution. iii) OMP-MEG complex were decomposed according to pseudo 1st order kinetics: while the decomposition of OMP showed a rate constant $(k_{25^{\circ}C})$ of $5.13{\times}10^{-4}{\cdot}\;day^{-1}$, a half-life$(t_{1/2})$ of 1,350 days, a shelf-life$(T_{90%})$ 205 days and an activation energy of 23.53 kcal/mole. OMP-MEG complex inhibited a rate $(k_{25})$ of $2.92{\times}10^{-4}{\cdot}\;day^{-1}$, a half-life$(t_{1/2})$ of 2,373 days, a shelf-life $(T_{90%})$ of 306 days and an activation energy of 20.18 kcal/mole. iv) OMP was stabilized markedly by the formation of OMP-MEG complex between OMP and MEG, and the humidity increased the stability of OMP-MEG complex by decreasing the decomposition rate$(k_{50^{\circ}C})$ from $1.27{\times}10^{-2}{\cdot}\;day^{-1}$ at 31% R.H. to $2.54{\times}10^{-2}{\cdot}\;day^{-1}$ at 90% R.H.
Pravastatin sodium is a 3-hydroxy-3-methylglutaryl-coenzyme A (HMG-CoA) reductase inhibitor used in the treatment of hypercholesterolemia by reducing cholesterol biosynthesis. Pharmaceutical excipients of commonly used including water, diluents, stabilizers, disintegrants, lubricants and colorants, and were identified for compatibility. All tests were performed by means of physical mixture of pravastatin and the excipients, which were placed in a press-through-pack (PTP) and incubated under accelerated conditions ($40^{\circ}C$ and 75% relative humidity) for 3 months. The blends of pravastatin with all excipients developed white, off white, and light brown powders, which showed no changes upon visual analysis. Accelerated conditions changed the degradation profile of pravastatin calcium in the HPLC system when mixed with different excipients. Although most excipients can have minor effects on pravastatin stability, the major degradation product from pravastatin was lactone. Low-level interaction (assay and impurity) was induced by all excipients except for microcrystalline cellulose and croscarmellose sodium. These excipients increased lactone impurity in 3 months by as much as 0.22% and 0.18% respectively. The total mixture slightly increased the lactone impurity (by 0.43% in 3 months) of pravastatin. There was no change in the assays of all excipients. These results will be helpful in studying tablet size reductions for convenience of use.

The development of cost-effective electrocatalysts with high durability is one of the most important challenges for the commercialization of polymer electrolyte fuel cells (PEFCs). The durability of the electrocatalyst has been studied in terms of structural change in the active metal and the support. In particular, in fuel cell vehicles, degradation of the carbon-based support is known to have a significant effect on the electrocatalyst deterioration since the start-up/shut-down cycle is frequently repeated. The requirements for the support of the electrocatalyst include high surface area, electrical conductivity, chemical stability, and so on. In this study, we propose the evaluation methods for choosing better support materials and present the physicochemical properties that promising carbon supports should have. Three kinds of carbon materials with different crystallinity are compared. From in-depth study using X-ray diffraction, Raman spectroscopy, thermogravimetric analysis, and accelerated stress test, it is clearly confirmed that the durability of carbon-supported electrocatalysts is closely related to the physicochemical properties of the carbon supports.
Rocks exposed to the surface are subject to long-term weathering, and such effects weaken their engineering stability. Especially as weathering progresses, the surface of rocks will be changed by weathering, and such surface changes will affect the engineering safety of the rock mass. In addition, the chemical species produced in the weathered rock have a direct effect on the surrounding environment or on the structure. In areas where rocks are exposed, such as mining areas, chemical species produced by weathering can have a serious impact on the surrounding natural environment. In this study, accelerated weathering experiments using freeze/thaw system were conducted on rocks that had already been weathered and fresh rocks, and surface changes of each rock were observed with confocal laser scanning microscope (CLSM), and chemical species were analyzed using IC/ICP-MS. As the weathering progressed, the surface roughness decreased, and the amount of chemical species produced increased. The results of this study can be used as basic data for evaluating engineering/environmental safety in areas where rocks are exposed.
