On the intra-granular behaviour of a cocktail of inert gases in oxide nuclear fuel: Methodological recommendation for accelerated experimental investigation

  • Besides recent progresses in the physics-based modelling of fission gas and helium behaviour, the scarcity of experimental data concerning their combined behaviour (i.e., cocktail) hinders further model developments. For this reason, in this work, we propose a modelling methodology aimed at providing recommendations for accelerated experimental investigations. By exploring a wide range of annealing temperatures and cocktail compositions with a physics-based modelling approach we identify the most interesting conditions to be targeted by future experiments. To corroborate the recommendations arising from the proposed methodology, we include a sensitivity analysis quantifying the impact of the model parameters on fission gas and helium release, in conditions representative of high and low burnup.

  • Stainless steel sheets are widely used as the structural material for railroad cars and commercial vehicles. Structures made of stainless steel sheets are commonly fabricated by gas welding, For the fatigue design of gas welded joints such as fillet joints, it is necessary to obtain design information of the stress distribution at the weldment as well as the fatigue strength of the gas-welded joints. Further, the influence of the geometrical parameters of gas-welded joints on stress distribution and fatigue strength must be evaluated. in this study, ${\Delta}P-N_f$ curves were obtained by fatigue tests. and, the ${\Delta}P-N_f$ curves were rearranged on the basis of the ${\Delta}{\sigma}-N_f$ relation for the hot-spot stresses at the gas-welded joints. These results, were used for conducting an accelerated life test(ALT) From the experiment results, an acceleration model was derived and factors were estimated. The objective is to obtain the information required for the analysis of the fatigue lifetime of fillet welded joints and for data analysis by the statistic reliability method to save time and cost and to develop optimum accelerated life prediction plans.

Numerical Experiment on Sea Prince Oil Spill Incident Using a High Resolution Ocean Circulation Model (고해상도 해양순환모형을 이용한 씨프린스호 유류유출 사고 수치실험)

  • This study investigates the effects of tide, wind and oceanic currents on oil spill dispersions through a series of numerical floats tracking experiments on the Sea Prince oil spill incident occurred in 1995 using a 3-dimensional high resolution ocean circulation model. For that, a total of four experimental cases (experiment with tide, wind and oceanic currents, experiment with tide and oceanic currents, experiment with wind and oceanic currents, and experiment with tide and wind) were compared. It could be seen that results from experiment involving all external forces showed better agreement with the observed pattern of oil slick movement than other cases. The oceanic currents acted to drive floats to move to the western channel of the Korea straits and wind accelerated the eastward movement of floats in the early stage of the incident. Tidal currents played significant role in the horizontal dispersion of floats.

  • Carbonation of the root concrete reduces the durability of the reinforced concrete, and it is important to check the carbonation resistance of the concrete to ensure the durability of the reinforced concrete structure. In this study, a basic study on the prediction of carbonation progress was conducted by considering the mixing conditions of concrete using deep learning algorithm during the theory of artificial neural network theory. The data used in the experiment used values that converted the carbonation velocity coefficient obtained from the mixing conditions of concrete and the accelerated carbonation experiment into the actual environment. The analysis shows that the error rate of the deep learning model according to the Hidden Layer is the best for the model using five layers, and based on the five Hidden layers, we want to verify the predicted performance of the carbonation speed coefficient of the carbonation test specimen in which the exposure experiment took place in the real environment.

  • In order to improve the durability of the proton exchange membrane fuel cell (PEMFC), it is important to accurately evaluate the durability of the polymer membrane in a short time. The test conditions for chemically accelerated durability evaluation of membranes are high voltage, high temperature, low humidity, and high gas pressure. It can be said that the protocol is developed by changing these conditions. However, the relative influence of each test condition on the degradation of the membrane has not been studied. In chemical accelerated degradation experiment of the membrane, the influence of 4 factors (conditions) was examined through the factor experiment method. The degree of degradation of the membrane after accelerated degradation was determined by measuring the hydrogen permeability and effluent fluoride ion concentration, and it was possible to determine the degradation order of the polymer membrane under 8 conditions by the difference in fluoride ion concentration. It was shown that the influence of the membrane degradation factor was in the order of voltage > temperature > oxygen pressure > humidity. It was confirmed that the degradation of the electrode catalyst had an effect on the chemical degradation of the membrane.

  • The long-term durability characteristics of high-early-strength concrete were assessed. The effect of long-term durability characteristics of high-early-strength concrete were investigated. In experiment, two different types of fiber were adopted for improvement of durability. High-early-strength fiber reinforced concretes using regulated-set cements are compared with high-early-strength concrete without fiber. The durability performance of the laboratory-cured high-early-strength concrete specimens was determined by conducting an accelerated chloride permeability, abrasion resistance, freeze-thaw, surface deicer salt scaling and wet-dry repetition test. The results indicated that incorporation of fibers enhance durability performance.

  • Because the moving visual acuity is less than the static visual acuity, a new headlight system was designed and manufactured to make reparation for that. Then the new headlight system was built in a passenger car and some experiment was achieved. When the car is accelerated the luminous flux of headlight is augmented. When the speed of the car was increasing, the new system was effective, but when the car was decelerated the system was less effective.

  • Ammonium sulfate synthesized by the air oxidation methods without catalyst using the reaction vessel which was fitted with fritted glass at the bottom of it and introducing, through the bottom, ammonia and air with constant flow rates to sulfurous acid solution of constant concentrations at the given temperatures. The experiment showed that the oxidation process was accelerated in accord with the increase of the air flow rates when the ammonia flow rate was constantly kept at ca. 100ml/min. in high temperatures. When the pH of the solution reached 9.0, the oxidation was nearly completed. It is assumed that in the process of reaction, $[O_{2}{\to}HSO_{3}^-]^{\neq}$ would be produced as an activated complex and the reaction was thought to be first order. The experiment indicated that the 0.5M sulfurous solution could be oxidized up to 98.54% at the flow rates of ammonia and air, 100ml/min., and 4l/min., respectively at $50^{\circ}C$.

Study on correlation of acoustic emission and plastic strain based on coal-rock damage theory

  • The high positive correlation between plastic strain of loaded coal-rock and AE (acoustic emission) characteristic parameter was studied and proved through AE experiment during coal-rock uniaxial compression process. The results show that plastic strain in the whole process of uniaxial compression can be gained through the experiment. Moreover, coal-rock loaded process can be divided into four phases through analyzing the change of the plastic strain curve : pressure consolidation phase, apparent linear elastic phase, accelerated deformation phase, rupture and development phase, which corresponds to conventional elastic-plastic change law of loaded coal-rock. The theoretical curve of damage constitutive model is in high agreement with the experimental curve. So the damage evolution law of coal rock damage can be indicated by both acoustic emission and plastic strain. The results have great academic and realistic significance for further study of both AE signal characteristics during loaded coal-rock damaged process and the forecasting of coal-rock dynamic disasters.

  • This research dealt with the nutrient value of the seaweed, Sargessum horneri (Turner) C. Ag. which showed the highest nutrient value in the previous exporiment (Park 1968). Its objective was to find the most effective mixing ratio of ordinary chicken feed used for pullet. In order to investigate the most effective mixing ratio, seven kinds of sample feed with vary-ing amounts of the seaweed as shown in table 2 were prepared and were fed to seven groups of chickens, each group consisting of twenty, four week old, pullets. In addition, the effect of sodium glutaminate mixed in the feed was also investigated, and the following result was obtained. The average increase in body weight of each group during the experiment period was determined. The group fed with the feed containing $10\%$ powdered Sargassum horneri (Turner) C. Ag. showed the highest body weight increase. In this experiment the body weight increase was accelerated by mixing $0.5\%$ sodium glutaminate In the above feed.
