A Exploratory Study on the Influential Factors of Resilience in Female High School Students (여고생의 회복탄력성 영향요인에 대한 탐색적 연구)

  • This purpose of this study was to survey state-anxiety, depression and resilience in female high school students and to identify factors influencing resilience. Data were collected 177 female high school students. Data were analyzed using ANOVA, t-test, Scheffe's test, Stepwise Regression Analysis, Pearson's correlation coefficient. The mean score of state-anxiety was 39.56±11.37. There was statistically significant difference in state-anxiety on variable such as academic achievement, satisfaction of school life, parental rearing attitudes, satisfaction of family life. The mean score of depression was 7.53±8.52. There were statistically significant difference in depression on variables such as relationship with school fellow, satisfaction of school life, parental rearing attitudes, satisfaction of family life. The mean score of resilience was 98.36±17.76. There was statistically significant difference in resilience on variables such as academic achievement, parental rearing attitudes, Resilience was negatively correlated with state-anxiety. Resilience was negatively correlated with depression. Self-esteem was positively correlated with depression. Factor influencing resilience were state-anxiety, high academic achievement, which explained 49.6%. Findings provide useful information for further studies in female high school students. Further research with careful sampling will be needed to enhance the resilience of male and female high school students,

Effects of Depression and Daily Stress on Female High School Students's Resourcefulness (여고생의 우울과 일상적 스트레스가 자원동원성에 미치는 영향)

  • The purpose of this study was to investigate depression, daily stress and resourcefulness in female high school students and to identify variables influencing resourcefulness. Data were collected 152 female high school students. Data were treated statistics using ANOVA, t-test, Pearson's correlation coefficient, Scheffe's test and Stepwise Regression Analysis. The mean score of depression was 7.29±8.38. There was statistically significant difference in depression on factors such as relationship with parental rearing attitudes, school fellow, satisfaction of school life. The mean score of daily stress was 105.88±19.63. There were statistically significant difference in daily stress on variables such as relationship with school fellow, parental rearing attitudes. The mean score of resourcefulness was 21.68±33.50. There was statistically significant difference in resourcefulness on factors such as academic achievement, satisfaction of school life. Resourcefulness was negatively correlated with depression and daily stress. Depression was positively correlated with daily stress. Factor influencing resourcefulness were daily stress, academic achievement, which explained 35.7%. Further researches with careful sampling will be needed to reinforce the resourcefulness of high school students.

The influence of general characteristics of physical therapy students in regards to major satisfaction and academic achivement

  • Objective: To examine the relations between satisfaction in major, academic achievement and five personality factors of physical therapy students. Design: Questionnaire study. Methods: In order for a complete enumeration when selecting study subjects, we selected five representative schools through raffles. For about three weeks from May 21st to June 16th 2012, we distributed self-administered questionnaires comprised of questions related to five personality factor characteristics, satisfaction in major and academic achievement. Total of 510 questionnaires were distributed and 442 questionnaires were returned. Except the castle is not answered or unanswered call 73 questionnaire collected data from the 369 call. And 369 questionnaires were used for analysis. The frequency analysis was conducted to examine general characteristics of subjects. Results: In the analysis of differences in personality factors for each individual variable in accordance with sex, women had higher degree of neuroticism than men (p<0.05). Also men showed higher openness than women (p<0.05). In the analysis of differences in personality factors for each individual variable in accordance with age, the lower the age was, the higher the degree of neuroticism was (p<0.05). For satisfaction in major, "Satisfaction in school life" and "Motive for selecting the major"were significant factors (p<0.05). academic achievement, "School type" and "Motive for selecting the major" were significant factors (p<0.05). Conclusions: In regards to the satisfaction in major and academic achievement, "Motive for selecting the major" was the major significant factor. Students who had high interest in their majors expressed higher satisfaction, which the in turn correlated with higher academic achievement.

Effect of Oral Health-Related Quality of Life on School Life Satisfaction in High School Students (고등학생의 구강건강 관련 삶의 질이 학교생활 만족도에 미치는 영향)

  • The purpose of this study was to evaluate the association between oral health-related quality of life and school life satisfaction in high school students. A questionnaire-based survey was conducted on high school students in Daegu, South Korea from November to December, 2015, and final data from 432 students was analyzed. Analysis of oral health-related quality of life in terms of general characteristics showed that both academic achievement and stress were significant factors (p<0.05). With respect to school life satisfaction, academic achievement was found to be a highly significant influencing factor (p<0.01). Correlation analyses of oral health-related quality of life with various factors of school life satisfaction showed positive correlations with personal relationships, educational learning environment, social support. Regression analysis of school life satisfaction showed that academic achievement and oral health-related quality of life were influencing factors. These results indicate that oral health-related quality of life may play a significant role in school life satisfaction.

The Effect of Paternal and Maternal Helicopter Parenting on the Career Preparation Behavior of High-School Students: Sequential Mediation Effects of Academic Achievement Attribution and Career Decision-Making Self-Efficacy (아버지와 어머니의 헬리콥터 부모역할이 고등학생의 진로준비 행동에 미치는 영향: 학업성패귀인과 진로결정자기효능감의 순차적 매개효과)

  • This study examined the sequential mediation effects of academic achievement attribution and career decision-making self-efficacy on the effect of paternal and maternal helicopter parenting on high-school students' career preparation behavior. A total of 285 (119 male and 166 female) Korean high-school students in the second grade participated in the study. Research variables were measured using the Career Preparation Behavior Scale (Kim, 1997), Helicopter Parenting Scale (LeMoyne & Buchanan, 2011), Attribution Questionnaire (Weiner, 1979), and Career Decision-Making Self-Efficacy Scale-Short Form (Betz et al., 1996). To examine the sequential mediating effect, data analysis was performed using SPSS 29.0 and PROCESS MACRO (v4.2) Model 6. The results revealed no correlations between helicopter parenting and academic failure attribution. However, higher paternal and maternal helicopter parenting were found to indirectly reduce high-school students' career preparation behavior through lower internal academic success attribution (effort and ability) and higher external academic success attribution (task difficulty and luck), which reduced career decision-making self-efficacy. These findings can be employed to develop more effective intervention programs comprising career guidance for adolescents, which emphasizes the negative effect of helicopter parenting. This study expands the research field, as previous findings on helicopter parenting mostly focus on college students.

The Effect of Performing Leader's Role on Academic Achievement and Satisfaction in Small Group Collaborative Learning in Virtual Reality (가상현실을 활용한 소집단 협력학습에서 팀 구성원으로서의 역할 수행이 학업성취도와 만족도에 미치는 영향)

  • To conduct research using small group learning with advanced technology in school, small group collaborative learning was conducted in virtual reality called Second Life for high school history class to verify the effects of the role of group members (leader, group member) in collaborative learning activities in this study. Two classes of the second grade of high school were selected randomly and 20 groups were also randomly assigned, and each group was consisted of three members (1 leader and two group members). Academic achievement and satisfaction with academic activities were used to verify the effect of the role as measurement tools, and collected quantitative data were tested by independent sample t. As a result, it was found that performing the role of leader in collaborative learning activities in virtual reality was effective in promoting enhancing students' academic achievement and increasing satisfaction level. Lastly, utilization and improvement of small group collaborative learning using virtual reality in the field of education were discussed.

The Effects of CoRe-based Science Lesson on the Scientific Conceptual Formation and Academic Achievement of Elementary School Students (CoRe에 기반한 과학 수업이 초등학생들의 과학 개념 형성과 학업 성취도에 미치는 영향)

  • This study aimed to investigate the changes in learner's scientific conceptual formation and academic achievement after a CoRe-based science lesson. For this study, two classes of the 6th grade of elementary school were divided into an experimental class and a comparison one. The students of the experimental class received CoRe-based science lesson and those of the comparison one received general science lesson. Both of the classes studied 'unit 1. A change in the weather', which is a part of content of 6th grade science text book. The results of this study were as follows. First, in the questions of invisible and abstract phenomena, students had misconceptions based on their experience in real life, or did not understand the fundamental causes of that phenomena. But after receiving lessons respectively, experimental class generally showed at a higher rate of understanding the causes of the phenomena than comparison class. Second, CoRe-based science lesson was more effective to improve students' scientific conceptual formation than the general science lesson. Moreover, when two classes were respectively divided into two groups as high and low-level groups according to their pre-test achievement records, the CoRe-based science lesson was more effective to learners of the high-level groups. Third, CoRe-based science lesson was more effective to enhance students' academic achievements than the general science lesson, especially to learners of the low-level groups.

Analyzing Recognition of Teachers and Students about the Method of Entering General High School by School Life Records (내신 성적에 의한 일반계고등학교 입학전형방법에 관한 교사와 학생 인식 분석 - B 광역시를 중심으로 -)

  • The aim of this study is to survey and analyze the recognition of teachers and students about methods for entering general high school. For this study, firstly current methods for entering general high school of 16 offices of education were compared and analyzed. Secondly recognition of teachers in middle school or high school and of students in middle school about methods for entering general high school were surveyed and analyzed. Major consequences of this study are as follows: Firstly, most teachers preferred the method by both school life records and the entrance test but most students preferred the method by school life records. Secondly, teachers recognized the difference of school life records according to sex and school and the decrese of academic achievement from decrese of motive for studies as serious problems of general high school entrance method by school life records. Thirdly, students recognized competition among students in the same school and the difference of school life records according to sex as serious problems of general high school entrance method by school life records.

Correlations between Radiological Technology Graduates' Academic Achoevement and their Obtainment of a License (방사선과 졸업생의 학업성취도와 면허 취득의 관계)

  • This study analyzed the correlations between variables like characteristics related to admission, academic achievement, obtainment of a radiological technology license. A majority of participants were from Daegu and academic high schools. Many participants were accepted by general admission selection, and their reason to apply to Daegu Health College was high graduate employment. Their selection for the academic program was made by their parents and themselves. Those who took the same course twice held 35.1%, and those who got an academic warning took 8.5%. The degree of participants' academic achievement showed somewhat low, and they had difficulty in taking their major courses. The average grade for admission was lower in a following selection order: college graduates, general, special, and rural areas. The admission selections and taking science courses in high school showed little significant correlations with obtainment of a radiological technology license. However, the obtainment of the license had significant correlations with retaking the same course, getting an academic warning, and the degree of academic achievement. The results also revealed that the obtainment of the license had little significant correlations with a part-time job experience, having a boy/girlfriend, and student club participation, but it had significant correlations with accommodations and study club participation. In conclusion, it is important to point out that radiological technology graduates' obtainment of a license is closely related with the degree of their academic achievement and their college life.

  • The purpose of this study was to increase having a happy school life, by applying a good teaching program in mathematics to create achieving happiness education which raised the students' dreams and talents. For this purpose, first, what was the effects on academic achievement through a good teaching program in mathematics. Second, what was the effect on the happiness index in mathematics learning through a good teaching program in mathematics. Third, what could raise the students' dreams and talents, when realized, to ensure that the students have happiness education. First, specific research issues for the realization of the objectives of this study were considering how to apply a good teaching program in mathematics. Second, what was the effect on students' academic achievement and mathematics happiness index through a good teaching program in mathematics? As a result of applying good teaching program in mathematics, there was a difference in academic achievement and could improve mathematical happiness index.
