The purpose of this study is to investigate how Korean EFL university students acquire an understanding of English tenses. To research this, we proposed two research questions of study as below. Firstly, what difference is there in English tense acquisition between an experimental group and a control group? Secondly, what difference is there in the English tense acquisition according to English proficiency? The subject of a sample survey was a 39 student experimental group and a 38 student control group, total 77 students, who take English courses as a required subject at 'C' university in Gwangju. The data needed for this study was obtained by the questionnaires with 40 questions about the English tense. The data analyzing method was t-test through the statistics program SPSS 12.0. There was a significant difference between the experimental group's tense acquisition ability and the control group's, even though low group showed no significant improvement in their tense acquisition ability. Studying English tense through reading led the students to be present in classes with interests, so the experimental group showed more academic accomplishments than the control group.
Small Group Collaborative Instruction in school settings has been endorsed by many educational experts over the years. Some studies found that learners greatly benefit from one another through communication and interaction with their peers. These studies previously indicated improvement of a learner‘s academic ability as well as the application of the affective domain when using this type of instruction. Lower-level students with limited mathematical abilities improved their problem-solving and conceptual thinking skills when tasked to work with other learners. On the other hand, the effectiveness of this process was questioned to be less evident with higher-level performers. Therefore, this study was designed to observe the efficacy of Small Group Collaborative Instruction on higher-level students and to explore their learning process as they interact with and teach lower-level students. This study observed that higher-level students use high-level mathematical thinking skills when helping lower-level students, and they improved problem-solving ability as well as communication skills.

Objectives: This study assessed the status of domestic industrial hygiene laboratories using data from on-site investigation for revision of quality control systems in 2012-2013. Methods: The target laboratories were 60 industrial hygiene laboratories chosen by random selection and nationwide distribution which had participated in on-site investigations for revision of quality control systems from March 2012 to August 2013. The investigation was performed on-site following standard quality control procedures. The score between each group was compared using Mann-Whitney and Kruskal-Wallis tests, and the correlation between analytical career, sex, academic major of analyst and score of analytical performance was expressed as Spearman's rank correlation coefficient. Results: The assessment revealed that the items to be improved, in sequence, were effort at staff training (score 65.5), ability to calculate data (score 73.4), establishment of internal quality control guidelines (score 75.7), laboratory facilities (score 77.1), degree of understanding and skill at gas chromatography (score 77.1). Analysis performance showed a positive correlation with career of analyst (r=0.56, p<0.01). Conclusions: The practice of on-site investigation for quality control systems showed the current status of industrial hygiene laboratories in the first trial. There were many laboratories which needed improvement and development of analytical systems. This assessment can provide information for the systematic operation and improvement of facilities at each laboratory. Further practice of this investigation will lead to a proficiency testing and accreditation system for autonomous quality control as is the practice in many countries, rather than mandatory practice by legal regulation.

Project-based learning is an effective teaching method for improvement of academic achievement and problem-solving ability so that is often applied to programming education. However, a strategy of enhancing motivation is required by a course design considering a learning style of students for advantage of PBL to take effect. Yet, studies on considerations with learning style still lack, when designing project-based programming learning courses for improvement of learning motivation. This research aims to address issues for consideration in designing PBL programming course. Accordingly, we analyzed learning motivation's difference between learning style in PBL programming class. We designed PBL programming course focusing ARCS model, where students making simulation The Kolb Learning Style Inventory is used to determine learning preferences. To assess students' motivation, Keller's Course Interest Survey was used in a pre-post-test-design. The result indicates that pre-post students' motivation differed. Also, we found considerations through comparing difference of ARCS model's detailed elements between learning styles.
This study analyzed outcomes of CAC(Computing Accreditation Committee) program individually applied in the field of computing engineering since 2007, and draw improvements. Literature review through academic journals, survey research and the FGI(Focus Group Interview) were used to accomplish objectives of the study. The purpose of this study is to develop an engineer competency model using Analytical Hierarchy Process (AHP) to improve the national technical qualification system. Korea has managed technical human resources at the government level through the operation of a national technical qualification system that certifies engineers with national certificates or technical grades by laws. However, there have been increasing concerns that the government system is separated from global standards and does not reflect an engineer's comprehensive capabilities. For these reasons, the new architecture of the system has been continuously discussed and becomes a major policy issue of the Korean government. For the development of the engineer competency model, domestic and global models were separately structured using 554 valid questionnaires with a consistency ratio (CR) of 0.1 or less. The relative importance of engineer competency factors in a domestic model was career (0.383), qualification (0.253), academic degree (0.195), and job training (0.169) whereas the order in the global model was career (0.308), global ability (0.237), job training (0.175), domestic qualification (0.147), and academic degree (0.134). The results of AHP analysis indicated that the evaluation factors and methods recognized by engineers were different from a current government model focusing on domestic qualifications. There was also perceptual difference in the importance of engineer evaluation factors between groups depending on the type of organizations and markets. This means that it is necessary to reflect the characteristics of organizations and markets when evaluating engineer competency. Based on AHP analysis and literature reviews, this paper discussed how to develop a new engineer competency index (ECI) and presented two effective index models verified by simulation test using 59,721 engineers' information. Lastly, the paper discussed major findings of our empirical research and proposed policy alternatives for the improvement of a national engineer qualification system. The paper contributes to the management of technical human resources since it provides quantitative competency models that are objectively developed by reflecting market recognition and can be effectively used by the policy makers or firms.
