Cadmium compounds with one dimension (1D) nanostructures have attracted attention for their excellent electrical and optical properties. In this study, vertically aligned CdTe-Si nanostructures with high density were synthesized by several simple chemical reactions. First, l D Te nanostructures were synthesized by silver assisted chemical Si wafer etching followed by a galvanic displacement reaction of the etched Si nanowires. Nanowire length was controlled from 1 to $25{\mu}m$ by adjusting etching time. The Si nanowire galvanic displacement reaction in $HTeO_2{^+}$ electrolyte created hybrid 1D Te-branched Si nanostructures. The sequential topochemical reaction resulted in $Ag_2Te-Si$ nanostructures, and the cation exchange reaction with the hybrid 1D Te-branched Si nanostructures resulted in CdTe-Si nanostructures. Wet chemical processes including metal assisted etching, galvanic displacement, topochemical and cation exchange reactions are proposed as simple routes to fabricate large scale, vertically aligned CdTe-Si hybrid nanostructures with high density.

Purpose: This investigation was designed to determine the translucency and color stability of various core ceramics for all-ceramic restoration using the CIE $L^*a^*b^*$ system. Material and Methods: IPS e.max Press ceramic(Ivoclar-Vivadent, Liechtenstein), $LAVA^{TM}$ All Ceramic(3M-Espe, Germany), Cercon Smart Ceramic(Dentsply, Germany), and Z-match Ceramic(DentAim, Korea) were used for this study. For the specimens of zirconia oxide ceramics, the as-sintered cylindrical blanks($11.0{\times}25.0mm$) were machined into the shape of a disk(0.4, 0.8, 1.5 mm in thickness, 10 mm in diameters) with a diamond grind machine. The IPS e.max Press specimens ($0.8{\times}10mm$) were fabricated using the "lost wax" technique. CIE $L^*a^*b^*$ coordinates and light transmission were recorded for each specimen with a spectrophotometer(CM-2600d, Minolta, Japan). Color differences were calculated using the equation, ${\Delta}E^*ab=[({\Delta}L^*)2+({\Delta}a^*)2+({\Delta}b^*)2]1/2$. Results: The results were obtained as follows: 1. The most translucent group was IPS e.max Press ceramic that is a glass-ceramic, and $Lava^{TM}$ and Z-match ceramic were more translucent than Cercon Smart ceramic in zirconia ceramic group. 2. In the all groups, there was no significant translucent change after 6 times heat-treatments required to make a final restoration. 3. Colored zirconia was showed more yellowish and dark than uncolored zirconia. 4. After heat-pressing, IPS e.max Press ceramic was showed high ${\Delta}E^*ab$ value(4.1 of eM1, 6.8 of eM2) that means to be more whiter than before heat-pressing. However, there was no color change after additive heat treatments for final restoration. 5. In the colored zirconia groups, there was no significant color change after some heat-treatments required to make a final restoration.
Turquoise blue pigment of Vanadium-zircon blue (DCMA number 14-42-2), which was already commercialized, was stable to be reproduced but insufficient to give strong blue. However, it possible to obtain more intense blue by partially substituting cobalt ions into the willemite($Zn_2SiO_4$) lattice classified into DCMA number 7-10-2 for blue ceramic pigment. By the composition of willemite $Co_xZn_{2-x}SiO_4$(X=0.01, 0.03, 0.05, 0.07, 0.09 mole), this study used reagent grade zinc oxide, cobalt oxide and silicon dioxide as starting materials, carrying out the synthesis with solid reaction method by adding $H_3BO_3$ as a mineralizer. The firing temperature was between $1200^{\circ}C$ and $1400^{\circ}C$. The characteristics of synthesized pigment were analyzed by X-ray diffraction, Raman spectroscopy and SEM and the characteristics of color tones were analyzed by UV-Vis spectroscopy and CIE-$L^*a^*b^*$ measurement. As a result, the optimal composition was $Zn_{1.95}Co_{0.05}$ with 1wt% of $H_3BO_3$ as a mineralizer and firing condition was $1350^{\circ}C$/3 h. $L^*a^*b^*$ value was 29.25, 41.03, -59.93 for on glaze pigment and 37.03, 36.41, -60.03 for under glaze pigment.

Purpose: This study was conducted to investigate alloys spectrophotometrically including yttrium of nickel-chromium (Ni-Cr) alloys, which are used as substitutes for the regulation of beryllium and provide helpful improvements in Ni-Cr alloys. Methods: Four groups of specimens (ZN, ZY, SN and EM) were prepared for analysis. Color parameters were measured with a spectrophotometer, and color difference (∆E*) was calculated. The t-test and one-way analysis of variance test were used to determine significant difference, and the Tukey test was used to identify where the differences were. To measure the spectroscopic reflectivity, the spectroscopic reflectance was measured and converted into CIE L*, a*, b* color system. Results: The ∆E* value of each metal ceramic group after opaque firing of Ni-Cr alloy with and without yttrium was <2, and the total group color difference (∆E*) was below 1 in the dentin ceramic all experimental group. However, the a* and b* values of the metal ceramic groups were higher than that in the lithium disilicate all ceramic group, and the chroma was higher than the natural tooth. The brightness of all experimental groups was similar to that of the shade guide sample. Conclusion: Yttrium added to Ni-Cr alloys showed similar CIE L*, a*, b* values to Ni-Cr alloys that did not contain yttrium, indicating that yttrium had no effect on color in metallic ceramic systems.

Recently mobile communication fields need piezoelectric ceramic resonators and filters as possible as small. The length-extensional vibration mode of a rectangular piezoelectric cesamic plate has the advantage of the small size, but the mode has not been studied sufficiently because it was not used extensively until now. In this paper, PZT + x[wt%l $Cr_20_3$ ceramics with rhombohedra1 phase were fabricated. And temperature stability for the mode of the ceramic specimen was investigated. Contrary to our expectations, addition of the stabilizer, $Cr_20_3$ did not promote the temperature stability for the mode in the PZT ceramic specimen with rhombohedra1 phase.
The thermal conductivities of nano-sized fumed silica-based insulation media were investigated by varying a mean particle size of the silicon carbide opacifiers and ceramic fiber content. Opacifying effect of ceramic fiber and silicon carbide powders was discussed in terms of their content and the mean particle size of them. As the fiber contents increased from 10 wt% to 30 wt% in a material, its thermal conductivity at temperatures of about $620^{\circ}C$ decreased from 0.171 $Wm^{-1}K^{-1}$ to 0.121 $Wm^{-1}K^{-1}$. Meanwhile, the thermal conductivity at temperatures of about $625^{\circ}C$ decreased from 0.128 $Wm^{-1}K^{-1}$ to 0.092 $Wm^{-l}K^{-1}$ as the mean SiC particle size decreased from $31{\mu}m$ to $10{\mu}m$.
The purpose of this study was to investigate membrane fouling caused by microalgal cells in submerged membrane systems consisting of polymeric and ceramic microfiltration membranes. In this study, one polymeric (flat-sheet, pore size: $0.2{\mu}m$) and two ceramic (flat-sheet, pore size: $0.2{\mu}m$ and cylindrical, pore size: $1{\mu}m$) membranes were used. Physical cleaning was performed with water and air to determine the potential for reversible and irreversible membrane fouling. The study results showed that substantial irreversible membrane fouling (after four filtration cycles, irreversible fouling degree 27% (cleaning with water) and 38% (cleaning with air)) occurs in the polymeric membrane. In cleaning studies performed using water and air on ceramic membranes, it was observed that compressed air was more effective (recovery rate: 87-91%) for membrane cleaning. The harvesting performance of the membranes was examined through critical flux experiments. The critical flux values for polymeric membrane with a pore size of $0.20{\mu}m$ and ceramic membranes with a pore size of $0.20{\mu}m$ and $1{\mu}m$ were ${\leq}95L/m^2hour$, ${\leq}70L/m^2hour$ and ${\leq}55L/m^2hour$, respectively. It was determined that critical flux varies depending on the membrane material and the pore size. To obtain more information on membrane fouling caused by microalgal cells, the characterization of the fouled polymeric membrane was performed. This study concluded that ceramic membranes with a pore size of $0.2-1{\mu}m$ in the submerged membrane system could be efficiently used for microalgae harvesting by cleaning the membrane with compressed air at regular intervals.

This study was performed to investigate the color stability of IPS Empress 2 glass-ceramic after heat-pressing and/or heat-treatments. Three types of IPS Empress 2 ingots (shade 100, 300, 500) were tested. For this study, three groups were prepared as follows: group 1 is as-received material, group 2 is heat-pressed material, and group 3 is fully heat -treated material. The color of the specimens was measured with a colorimeter. The data were statistically evaluated with one-way ANOVA and Scheffe's multiple test. The results obtained were as follows: 1. IPS Empress 2 glass-ceramic demonstrated less color stability according as the shade is lighter. Namely, the shade 500 showed the lowest color shifts and the shade 100 showed the greatest color shifts after heat-pressing and heat-treatments. 2. In the cases of shade 100 and 300, the changes of ${\Delta}E^*$ were affected mostly by the changes of $L^*$ and $b^*$. 3. In ${\Delta}E^*$ of the shade 100, there were significant differences among the group 1, 2, and 3 (P<0.001). 4. In ${\Delta}E^*$ of the shade 300, there were significant differences between the group 1 and 2, and the group 1 and 3 (P<0.001). 5. In ${\Delta}E^*$ of the shade 500, there was significant difference only between the group 1 and 3 (P<0.001).
