Comparison of Stress Level and HPA axis Activity of Internet Game Addiction vs. Non-addiction in Adolescents (인터넷게임중독 청소년과 비중독 청소년의 스트레스 수준과 HPA axis 활성도 비교)

  • Purpose: The purpose of this study was to compare the stress level and HPA axis activity of an internet game addiction group and non-addiction group in adolescents. Methods: A cross-sectional comparative study was performed with 140 male high school students from 9 vocational high schools at W city. Data were collected from July to September, 2012, using a questionnaire for measuring internet game addiction and stress level, blood samples for serum ACTH, and cortisol level for HPA axis activity. Data were analyzed using descriptive analysis, $X^2$-test, t-test, ANOVA, and Pearson correlation coefficient with SPSS/WIN 15.0. Results: The stress level of the internet game addicted group was significantly higher than that of the non-addicted group (p<.001). The serum cortisol level was also significantly higher in the internet game addicted group than in the non-addicted group (p<.026). The serum ACTH level was higher in the internet game addicted group more than in the non-addicted group (p<.072). Conclusion: These results showed that internet game addiction could increase stress level and HPA axis activity in high school adolescents. Thus, a nursing approach to prevent and relieve internet game addiction should be initiated to stabilize the HPA axis of internet game addicted adolescents.

Differences in Sexual Attitudes and Gender Egalitarianism in Middle School Students According to Level of Internet Addiction (중학생의 인터넷 중독에 따른 성태도와 남녀평등의식의 차이)

  • Purpose: This study was done to investigate internet addiction, sexual attitudes and gender egalitarianism in middle school students, and to identify the differences of sexual attitude and gender egalitarianism according to the level of internet addiction. Method: The participants were 344 students from two middle schools in Seoul. Data were collected through self-report questionnaires which included an internet addiction test, a sexual attitude scale, and a Korean gender egalitarianism scale for adolescents. The data were analyzed using the SPSS program. Results: Of the students, 63.1% reported being average on-line users, 33.4%, heavy on-line users, and 3.5%, internet addicted. Sexual attitudes and gender egalitarianism of average on-line users were different from those addicted to the internet. Internet addiction, sexual attitudes and gender egalitarianism of students were different according to general characteristics, time spent on-line, and exposure and contact to cyber obscenities. Conclusion: Sexual attitudes and gender egalitarianism in middle school students were influenced by internet addiction. Therefore nursing interventions to prevent and manage internet addiction need to be developed and provided to middle school students. Also a variety of programs for teaching sexuality to adolescents should be developed.

  • With the development of information technology, more and more internet sites are available to consumers. Increasing on the interests of diet and health in modem society, there are numerous internet sites dealing with food, nutrition and health. Considering the importance and expected roles of internet sites in information dissemination in the future world, it is important to put more efforts to encourage internet sites with more accurate an useful information. Up to present, not much work has been done on quality analysis and evaluation of the internet information. This study aimed to develop a model to evaluate and rank the internet information according to its quality so that consumers can be guided toward correct information source. Three models were adapted from the literature for pilot study to develop a model suitable for evaluation of contents of sites related to food and nutrition information. From the pilot study, a evaluation model was developed with criteria more relevant to Korean internet site by expert panel. Evaluation criteria of the model is authority, accuracy, objectivity, coverage, and user-friendliness. For the objective and systematic evaluation, scores were assigned totaling maximum 100 point to each evaluation criteria factors. The model developed in this study could be used as one for other internet sites in area other than food and nutrition.

Satisfaction and Continuous Use Intention of Internet-only Banks (케이뱅크와 카카오뱅크 이용자들의 만족도와 지속 사용 의도의 결정 요인)

  • Internet-based financial services are being increasingly integrated into consumers' daily lives. Internet-only banks have emerged as a powerful tool accelerating financial inclusion. This study investigates the satisfaction and continuous use intention predictors for Internet-only banks. We employed an extended post-acceptance model and used six antecedent factors that included perceived usefulness, perceived ease of use, privacy risk, functional risk, subjective norms, and network externality. All 351 participants used Internet-only banks and were 20-40 years of age. A self-administration online survey was conducted. SPSS 23.0 analyzed the frequency, description, and multiple regression analysis. The results of current study are as follows. The education, perceived usefulness, perceived ease of use, and network externality positively influenced the satisfaction of Internet-only banks. Privacy risk negatively influenced satisfaction with Internet-only banks. Perceived ease of use, subjective norm, network externality, and satisfaction positively influenced the continuous use intention of Internet-only banks. The results of our study provide a better explanation of important factors that could enhance the understanding of satisfaction and continuous use intention for Internet-only banks. Furthermore, this study extends the antecedent variables to the knowledge of financial services and enlarges the understanding of users' post-adoption behaviors.

The Qualitative Study for Construction of Internet Shopping Behavior Model of Apparel (의류 상품의 인터넷 쇼핑 행동 모형 구성을 위한 질적 연구)

  • This study was fulfilled in the purpose of proposing construction strategies of Internet shopping-mall through the analysis of consumer moving line in Internet shopping-mall. This study was executed in two stages: theoretical study, qualitative study. In the theoretical study, hypothetical Internet shopping behavior model were constructed. Five internet shopping behavior types of apparel : purchase, searching purchase, prepurchase deliberation, information accumulation, opinion leadership and recreation were constructed. Next, consumer decision process were extracted from previous studies and a hypothetical internet shopping behavior model was constructed on the base of consumer decision process and Internet shopping behavior types. And then, through the qualitative study, Internet shopping behavior types were identified and hypothetical model was confirmed after adjustment. For qualitative study, 30 subjects were sampled by focus sampling and investigated by in-depth interview and observation. Seven internet shopping behavior types of apparel were found by the qualitative study: cautious purchase by price comparison, searching purchase, special low price purchase, impulse purchase, prepurchase deliberation, information accumulation and recreation-oriented. On the base of these behavior types, Internet shopping behavior model was adjusted and completed. Finally, according to the results of this study, Internet shopping construction methods that made customer's loyalty high and marketing strategy of Internet shopping-mall were proposed.

Effects of a Group Counseling Integration Program on Self-determination and Internet Addiction in High School Students with Tendency to Internet Addiction (인터넷중독 집단상담통합프로그램이 인터넷중독경향 고등학생의 자기결정성과 인터넷중독에 미치는 효과)

  • Purpose: In this study the effects of a Group Counseling Integration Program for students with a tendency to internet addiction were examined. Methods: Thirty-seven students who were in a vocational high school in G city participated in a survey, which was carried out from October 12 to November 12, 2009. To test the effects of the Group Counseling Integration Program, the participants were divided into two groups, an experimental group (18) and a control group (19). The research design used in this study was a nonequivalent control group non-synchronized pre-posttest quasi-experimental research design. The research tools included a self-determination scale and an internet addiction scale. Data were analyzed using Chi-square test, t-test, and ANCOVA with the SPSS/WIN 14.0 program. Results: Significant differences were found in self-determination scores and internet addiction scores between the experimental group and the control group (F=5.99, p=.020) (t=-2.53, p=.016). Conclusion: The results indicate that Group Counseling Integration Programs are an effective nursing intervention for improving self-determination and decreasing internet addiction in students with a tendency to internet addiction.

Cross-Channel Shopping Behavior between the Internet Retail Type and Store-Based Retail Types - Focus on Information of Fashion Product and Fabrics - (소비자의 인터넷 상점과 일반 상점간의 크로스 채널 쇼핑행동 분석 - 패션상품 및 소재정보를 중심으로 -)

  • Consumers currently show cross-channel shopping behavior between the Internet and store-based retail types when searching information and purchasing sensory products such as fashion items to reduce risks. As consumers compare both types of stores before making a purchase decision, the Internet retail type and store-based retail type started conflicting/competing each other as the combined retail evolution theory proposed(Kim & Kincade, 2006). The purpose of this study is to examine consumers' cross-channel shopping behavior between the Internet and store-based retail types and their importance and satisfaction with information provided by the Internet retail stores. This study employs a quantitative research method using a survey. Demographics, types of stores used for purchase, satisfaction with the type of stores, Internet shopping behavior, importance and satisfaction with product information in the Internet retail stores were asked. MANOVA and descriptive statistics were used to test hypotheses. The result shows that a majority of participants(36.2%) shows cross-channel shopping behavior between the two retail types. Also, most participants(72.4%) decide on their purchase and are satisfied only after cross-channel shopping between the two retail types. Participants were grouped based on their information search and purchase behavior. Significant differences among the groups were found in importance and satisfaction with product information provided by the Internet stores. In measuring participants' satisfaction, a majority of participants(42.1%) showed satisfaction with their purchase at store-based retail stores after information search via the internet, followed by the satisfaction with the purchase at the internet retail stores after information search at store-based retail stores(30.3%). Fifty one point nine percent of participants search information via the internet(vs.48% at store-based retail stores), and they especially look for fiber contents and design details with pictures(37.4%). The satisfaction with price information provided by the Internet retail stores is the highest (m=3.70 out of 5.0) among fashion product information followed by design information(m=3.48). On the other hand, size information, refund/exchange and fiber content information received low satisfaction scores(m=2.81, 2.71, 2.57 in turn). This research suggests the Internet retail stores should provide more variety of information in detail using technology and improving customer services. This study could provide the Internet retail stores a guideline to establish a satisfactory information delivery system.

  • A new medium access control protocol is proposed to support stable wireless Internet services. Using the characteristics of the uplink Internet traffic and a Voice-Packet multi-session mode, the proposed protocol transmits the uplink Internet traffic via the voice traffic channel of silent duration in a multi-session mode. Out simulation results show that the proposed protocol guarantees stable wireless Internet services under heavy loads.

Attention to the Internet: The Impact of Active Information Search on Investment Decisions (인터넷 주의효과: 능동적 정보 검색이 투자 결정에 미치는 영향에 관한 연구)

  • As the Internet becomes ubiquitous, a large volume of information is posted on the Internet with exponential growth every day. Accordingly, it is not unusual that investors in stock markets gather and compile firm-specific or market-wide information through online searches. Importantly, it becomes easier for investors to acquire value-relevant information for their investment decision with the help of powerful search tools on the Internet. Our study examines whether or not the Internet helps investors assess a firm's value better by using firm-level data over long periods spanning from January 2004 to December 2013. To this end, we construct weekly-based search volume for information technology (IT) services firms on the Internet. We limit our focus to IT firms since they are often equipped with intangible assets and relatively less recognized to the public which makes them hard-to measure. To obtain the information on those firms, investors are more likely to consult the Internet and use the information to appreciate the firms more accurately and eventually improve their investment decisions. Prior studies have shown that changes in search volumes can reflect the various aspects of the complex human behaviors and forecast near-term values of economic indicators, including automobile sales, unemployment claims, and etc. Moreover, search volume of firm names or stock ticker symbols has been used as a direct proxy of individual investors' attention in financial markets since, different from indirect measures such as turnover and extreme returns, they can reveal and quantify the interest of investors in an objective way. Following this line of research, this study aims to gauge whether the information retrieved from the Internet is value relevant in assessing a firm. We also use search volume for analysis but, distinguished from prior studies, explore its impact on return comovements with market returns. Given that a firm's returns tend to comove with market returns excessively when investors are less informed about the firm, we empirically test the value of information by examining the association between Internet searches and the extent to which a firm's returns comove. Our results show that Internet searches are negatively associated with return comovements as expected. When sample is split by the size of firms, the impact of Internet searches on return comovements is shown to be greater for large firms than small ones. Interestingly, we find a greater impact of Internet searches on return comovements for years from 2009 to 2013 than earlier years possibly due to more aggressive and informative exploit of Internet searches in obtaining financial information. We also complement our analyses by examining the association between return volatility and Internet search volumes. If Internet searches capture investors' attention associated with a change in firm-specific fundamentals such as new product releases, stock splits and so on, a firm's return volatility is likely to increase while search results can provide value-relevant information to investors. Our results suggest that in general, an increase in the volume of Internet searches is not positively associated with return volatility. However, we find a positive association between Internet searches and return volatility when the sample is limited to larger firms. A stronger result from larger firms implies that investors still pay less attention to the information obtained from Internet searches for small firms while the information is value relevant in assessing stock values. However, we do find any systematic differences in the magnitude of Internet searches impact on return volatility by time periods. Taken together, our results shed new light on the value of information searched from the Internet in assessing stock values. Given the informational role of the Internet in stock markets, we believe the results would guide investors to exploit Internet search tools to be better informed, as a result improving their investment decisions.
