  • Fuzzy Neural Network (FNN) is a compulsory element in a voice-controlled machine due to its inherent capability of interpreting imprecise natural language commands. To control such a machine, user's perception of imprecise words is very important because the words' meaning is highly subjective. This paper presents a voice based controller centered on an adaptable FNN to capture the user's perception of imprecise words. Conversational interface of the machine facilitates the learning through interaction.   • 본 논문에서는 Error Back Propagation 학습을 이용해 한글 문자를 On-Line 인식하는 시스템을 제안한다. Pointing device의 궤적을 추적해 입력 패턴의 특징(feature)을 추출해 신경 회로망 입력으로 준다. 이때 사용하는 특징은 기본 획 (stroke)의 종류 및 획간의 상대적 위치 관계이다. 학습과정에서는 자소의 정의를 읽어 초성, 중성, 종성에 대해 각 획수마다 정의된 신경회로망의 weight를 조정한다. 인식 과정에서는 초성, 중성, 종성의 순으로 에러가 최소인 획수의 신경회로망 출력을 택하여 2 바이트 조합형 코드로 완성한다. 이로써 Intelligent Man-Machine Interface 시스템중 위치 및 크기에 무관한 전필 입력 시스템을 구현한다.

Analysis of Human Arm Movement During Vehicle Steering Maneuver

  • The analysis of human arm motion during steering maneuver is carried out for investigation of man-machine interface of driver and steering system Each arm is modeled as interconnection of upper arm, lower arm, and hand by rotational joints that can properly represents permissible joint motion, and both arms are connected to a steering wheel through spring and damper at the contact points. The joint motion law during steering motion is determined through the measurement of each arm movement, and subsequent inverse kinematic analysis. Combining the joint motion law and inverse dynamic analysis, joint stiffness of arm is estimated. Arm dynamic analysis model for steering maneuver is setup, and is validated through the comparison with experimentally measured data, which shows relatively good agreement. To demonstrate the usefulness of the arm model, it is applied to study the effect of steering column angle on the steering motion.

Flexible Pressure Sensors Based on Three-dimensional Structure for High Sensitivity

  • The importance of flexible polymer-based pressure sensors is growing in fields like healthcare monitoring, tactile recognition, gesture recognition, human-machine interface, and robot skin. In particular, health monitoring and tactile devices require high sensor sensitivity. Researchers have worked on sensor material and structure to achieve high sensitivity. A simple and effective method has been to employ three-dimensional pressure sensors. Three-dimensional (3D) structures dramatically increase sensor sensitivity by achieving larger local deformations for the same pressure. In this paper, the performance, manufacturing method, material, and structure of high-sensitivity flexible pressure sensors based on 3D structures, are reviewed.

루미노 햅틱 디바이스의 색상 사용성 연구 (A Study on the Color Usability of Lumino Haptic Device)

  • 햅틱 장치는 기존 장치대비 보다 편리하고 정확하며 직관적 조작이 가능한 인간-기계 교류 장치이다. 이 연구의 목적은 햅틱 장치의 색상을 독립적인 설계 변수로 고려한 설계 인자의 운전자 반응을 정의하는 것이다. 본 논문에서는 기존의 촉각 피드백을 이용한 햅틱 장치의 인지능력을 증가시키는 방법에 대하여 연구하였다. 기존의 차량용햅틱 장치에 색상 피드백을 더한 루미노 햅틱 디바이스를 이용하여 사용성 평가를 실시하였다. 감성 분석을 통하여 운전자가 갖는 햅틱 디바이스에 대한 감성분석을 도출하였다. 결과적으로 운전자를 만족시키는 설계 방향의 제안이 가능하였다.

  • Human error has brought about accidents more than 50% in system of a large size and complicated expecially in nuclear power plants(NPPs). The technology of Man Machine Interface(MMI) has been changed to the digitalized controls employing computer-based technology. According to this trend. the human factors guidelines are becoming main issue for reliable supports to digitalized information displays. However. the existing human factors guidelines is not enough for advanced information display on NPPs. The purpose of this research is to develop the reliable design and evaluation guidelines for advanced information display in main control room (MCR) of NPPs. In this study. the various general human factors guidelines concerning information display on CRT are integrated on data base management system. unified based on the integration rules. and applied in computer based procedures. The use of the integrated guidelines are expected to evaluate the existing information display on MCR in NPPs from the human factors point of view.

원격 조종 작업에서 3가지 시각 궤환 조건하의 작업 수행도 (Task performance under three visual feedback conditions in a teleoperation task)

  • In this research, we investigated the effect of three visual feedback conditions (direct viewing, one-monitor viewing, and tow-monitors viewing) on the task performance of human operator in teloperation task. The three different level of task difficulties under each concitions were performed by thirty-six subjects. The result of the experiments was analysed by the task difficulties, and the measurements of performance are the task completion time and the frequency of task errors. In a teleoperator, the participation of a human operator is always required, and the man-machine interface and the operator's abilities is an important issue. Recently, the different types of sensory feedback conditions(force, vision, sound, tactile, etc) for teleoperation is a very active research area in ergonomics. Among them, visual feedback conditon is an important sense that can provide the information of task environment. Therefore, the sufficient understandings and investigation for human ability under various visual feedback conditions is required to establish the efficient man-machine interface of teleoperation. The result showed that the visual feecback conditions and the level of task difficulties have a significant effect on the task performance. For three level of task difficulties, the task completion time was the shortest under the condition of direct viewing. The number of task errors under the conditions of direct viewing and two-monitors viewing were reduced by more than half compare to that of one-monitor viewing.

Support Vector Machines을 이용한 시선 방향 추정방법 (Gaze Direction Estimation Method Using Support Vector Machines (SVMs))

  • A human gaze detection and tracing method is importantly required for HMI(Human-Machine-Interface) like a Human-Serving robot. This paper proposed a novel three-dimension (3D) human gaze estimation method by using a face recognition, an orientation estimation and SVMs (Support Vector Machines). 2,400 images with the pan orientation range of $-90^{\circ}{\sim}90^{\circ}$ and tilt range of $-40^{\circ}{\sim}70^{\circ}$ with intervals unit of $10^{\circ}$ were used. A stereo camera was used to obtain the global coordinate of the center point between eyes and Gabor filter banks of horizontal and vertical orientation with 4 scales were used to extract the facial features. The experiment result shows that the error rate of proposed method is much improved than Liddell's.

근전도와 안전도 기반의 인간-기계 인터페이스기술 (Development of Human-machine Interface based on EMG and EOG)

  • 최근 다양한 컴퓨터기반 장치들의 사용 확대에 따라 장애인에게도 정보접근의 용이성 확보가 요구되고 있다. 특히 사지를 움직일 수 없는 중증 장애인들을 위한 새로운 입력 인터페이스 기술의 개발이 절실히 요구된다. 이를 위해 본 논문에서는 중증 장애인이 활용 가능한 눈동자 움직임 및 깨물기를 통한 안전도(EOG)와 근전도(EMG)신호를 이용하여 아홉 가지의 명령이 가능한 인터페이스 시스템을 개발하였다. 구현된 시스템은 하드웨어로 구성된 센서모듈과 특징추출 및 패턴분류를 포함하는 소프트웨어부로 구성된다. 개발된 기술은 사용자의 편의성을 극대화하기 위해 두 개의 전극만을 이마부위에 부착하여 안전도와 근전도를 동시에 측정하고, 이를 통해 아홉 가지의 명령전달이 가능하도록 하였다. 성능평가를 위한 java 기반 실시간 모니터링 프로그램의 실험결과 92.52%의 인식률을 보였다. 또한, 구현된 시스템의 실용성을 입증하기 위해 다섯 종류의 명령을 이용하여 ER1 로봇의 조종에 성공적으로 적용 가능함을 보임으로써 장애인을 위한 새로운 인터페이스로서의 가능성을 보였다.
